An honest pub with home made food...

...which helps it to a "very good" rating. Plain home cooking, but all of it eminently edible and very little appeared to be drawn from the usual "food service" sources. There was a choice of new potatoes as an alternative to chips, and plenty of vegetables. The pub is indeed dated, but in an... read more

Discovered this gem just off an old railway line south of Coniston village whilst we stayed in a miners cottage up the hill. Billed from the road as the last pub in Coniston we reckon it was the best and we tried em all. It's just 15 mins walk max from the village along the old line which keeps you... More

The Ship is an atmospheric old pub with a friendly welcome. The beers, from Robinson's and Hartley's, are excellent. The food is traditional British, with fresh veg, and is well cooked with good size portions. The liver and onions were very good and you get proper pies. Highly recommended. One downside is the parking. But it's worth walking to. Pleasant... More

A very friendly pub, with good food. we were welcomed on arrival and felt instantly at home. There was plenty of choice on the menu. The roast beef was very good. Looking forward to going back again. Would recommend to all.

We walked up from the village to this pub and were not disappointed. The staff and owners clearly care about the pub and its customers and everyone including us were made to feel really welcome. The beer choice wasn't as good as at The Black Bull but no matter. We had chosen to eat here (the food prices slightly more... More

Compared with the 'take it or leave it' attitude of some of Coniston's more central pubs, for example the Black Bull, this is a refreshing change. Good pub food, spotless envionment, warm welcome. Ignore poor ratings dated pre late 2013 these refer to previous management.

The staff who work here very friendly and will share all the information they know about Coniston and its surroundings. The pub itself is a bit dated, and the food was not the best. Great atmosphere for a pint though.

A lovely meal. Plenty of choice, and very nicely cooked. Busy but pleasant atmosphere, with staff who genuinely cared about our enjoyment.
