Good old fashioned pub with a traditional cosy atmosphere. Very chatty Landlord & his wife. Lovely large open real coal fire. Excellent menu & good size portions, all reasonably priced. Great views over looking the village of Coniston in the heart of the English Lake District. All are welcome including walkers, children, large groups, & dogs. Makes an ideal base... More

We discovered this pub during our last trip to the Lakes and visited twice during our recent holiday. On the first occasion, the pub was quiet and the landlord was very welcoming. We have three children under the age of 8 and enjoyed a leisurely afternoon as a family in a traditional real ale pub, returning for our evening meal... More

We were recommended to visit this pub while staying at the caravan club site about 2 miles away. We first went on a Saturday evening for a meal and although the bar was busy we didn't struggle to find a seat in the restaurant. The food was lovely and served with a smile and conversation. We called again one afternoon... More

Visited here after a very long day. As soon as we entered the barman (presumed the landlord) was very welcoming and friendly. We ate and the food was good with massive portions on both the mains and the desserts. The local beer was also very good (have the XB). Would definitely visit again and recommend to others

we stopped for a quick lunch during a walk. It has a brilliant location but looks a bit tired decor wise. We had the pie special for lunch and it was tasty and freshly cooked, served quickly and with a smile. One observation and a pet hate of mine, it was served with cheap and nasty cutlery and for £13... More

Dear Haroldsmum Thank you for your comments but are you sure you ate at The Ship Inn? None of our pies, served with fresh vegetables and potatoes of your choice cost more than £9.95! We'll be pleased to welcome you any time! Regards Julie More

We arrived wet and cold after completing the first stsge of the Cumbria Way. Jim and Julie made the whole experience warm and welcoming. The food was good and plentiful, beer excellent! We will definitely be back.

We visited this pub for a mid week dinner and were not disappointed! It is a lovely cosy pub with an open fire, just what you want when it is hailing and blowing a gale outside despite it being spring! Although the wait for the meals was longer than average, they were a good size and tasted great. A confusion... More

A lovely little pub in Coniston heading towards Torver, well worth the 10 minutes walk from the centre of Coniston. We went with Ian's brother to eat and had a lovely warm welcome from Jim. The gluten free options are clearly marked on the menu and although there are no gf starters, there were no problems in serving up the... More
