Good Food, Great Welcome

We, including our dog, visited on the last night of our short stay in Coniston, and despite being a Sunday, the upper area was full and the bar area almost full - surely a good sign in October!! A warm welcome from the staff, and also from fellow dog-owners most of whom appeared to be regulars... read more

Celebrating my first wedding anniversary I treated my wife to a weekend In The Lake District. Stayed just outside coniston, we came across this dog friendly pub that was very welcoming (the most genuine welcome we got in any of the pubs in the area). Credit to the friendly lady behind the bar working Sunday 31st Jan evening. Topped our... More

Went to the Ship last night for a meal during a few days staying in Coniston, showing my great niece from Australia, the beauty of the Lake District. Outside it was cold, wet and windy but inside we couldn't have received a warmer welcome. Lovely people and delicious food. Between the four of us we had the lamb shank, scampi,... More

Recentley stayed here with some family after reading good reviews online. What appeared to be your standard cosy little pub/inn was made so much better by Jim and Julie who honestly made this one of the nicest places i have ever stayed. They re arranged breakfast and dinner times around our schedule and the food, which was included in the... More

This is a proper traditional country pub. The ale and food is spot on providing you're not one of those picky fussy wanna be restaurant critic types who can't distinguish between a pub and a five star restaurant. Real people are the order of the day here, folks who have dashed off the fells for a pint and some welcome... More

Just got back from staying at the Ship Inn for the weekend. And had a fantastic time Julie and Jim who run the pub could not do enough for us and we're great with our children, they made it special for them too. The room was very comfortable with everything in it you would need. Eat in there Saturday night... More

We have visited the Ship regularly on our visits to Coniston because the food is reasonably priced and serves a variety of fresh veg with the main meals and normally good. Unfortunately on our last visit I chose a fish dish which tasted like a well known named 'cook in the bag fish in sauce' rather than fresh fish. It... More

My partner and I stayed in Coniston in September 2015 and had dinner at The Ship on our first night. It was a struggle to decide what to eat because the menu looked so good. The food was lovely and the service was great. We will definitely be back the next time we're in the area.

This pub is a short walk out of Coniston, there is a path by the road and some lighting but take a torch with you if you are going in the evening. The food was lovely with a good choice on the menu and the staff were very friendly. The next time we are in Coniston we will definitely return.
