Evening started off badly having lost our reservation (and the book) and being asked to find a table next to the pool table (not in the restaurant) and not wiper down or glasses cleared. Bar was incredibly busy when ordering food and barman did not want to take order when asked. Food did actually come, only 4 order starters from... More

Service rubbish, food average, beer great if you shout loud enough to get some. Poor value for money. Will not return.

Returning to Coniston for a few days, after a walk down by the lake I thought "Sunday lunch, its got to be The Sun Hotel!". After pushing through those (3) annoying people who hog the bar, talking to the staff and 'being locals' I was served with the wonderful 'Lonesome Pine' Bitter...yes its all about Laurel and Hardy and the... Stayed here for two nights, the room was spacious, comfortable with a huge bay window with lovely views. The meals were very good, especially the five bean quorn stew! Very impressive range of excellent real ales, especially the "Loweswater Gold" and "Coniston Bluebird" Pleasant friendly staff and customers, many with their dogs. The pub attached to the hotel was busy,... More

We found the Sun very friendly, compared to the Crown, with good quality food and large range of draught beers.

We didn't eat her but the atmosphere and service were so good, friendly and welcoming. the ale was in top condition and our dog was made so welcome. Muddy boots ..not a problem , wet dog..no bother . would definitely recommend to anyone with some time to spare in Coniston

Didn't stay in the hotel, but there is the public bar at the back, it was early Friday night, and was very busy, called in to see what it was like, quite small, but thought this is how a put should be on a Friday night, very busy, and we thought this was worth a visit.

Food very good with very fair prices, the selection and quality of beer are second to non. Nicely set out both inside and weather permiting, outside , with lovely outlook of the nearbye fells. Warm and welcoming best describes this very special hotel.

The Sun seems to have finally found its feet. Having abandoned its Drunken Duck prices, you now get superb value bar meals (£8.50) with the best selection of real ales (8 on tap) you could hope to find. The beers are divine. Hawkshead and Loweswater Gold are two of the best beers brewed (the other is Yates bitter which is... More

Ate here with my husband. The beer was well kept we sampled a few different ones over a couple of evenings. The bar is nice and cosy with candles on tables. Staff seemed nice and friendly. On our second visit we decided to eat there it was reasonably busy. The menu was simple but we both found something and placed... More
