Wasn't BAD, but could be so much better

Bank Holiday weekend, so very busy in Coniston, snd ended up at The Sun. The website is very well put together and gives a very good impression. You can JUST recognise it in real life. The menu on their website bears very little resemblance to what is actually available. Having said that the... read more

kids running around, staff slower than snails and not bothered, tables left dirty for ages. 2 staff serving on a Saturday over the bank holiday!! It's a shame, always liked this pub and was thinking of booking a night but not now. Staff cleaning a mucky mark of pint glass whilst pouring beer in to it. Yuk!!

Decided to try here for dinner with the kids as our original choices were full on a Sunday evening. Daughter one had fish and chips, which she ate most of (unusual)! Chips were homemade and very nice. Daughter 2 had very nice tomato pasta. I had veg potato topped pie, which wasn't too bad, made a change from pasta for... More

We were a very large party who went here last Saturday following a long walk coming down at the Old Man of Coniston (this is the first pub entering the village). There were a lot of us and at times there was a big Q for the bar due to the pub being busy. We tried various beers and i... More

Nice place i guess, one in our party asked for fresh water for our dogs as we decided what the party of 6 may eat and drink, the landlord pointed to a hose pipe and muttered various words on how to obtain water. So we had 2 pints and went else where. So on that basis we cannot review food... More

Plenty of seating- a conservatory to dine in with super views. Food was delicious and served promptly. Parking available.

After a walk up the Old Man of Coniston we called in for a cup of tea. We sat out in the garden and enjoyed just sitting and admiring the view. The specials board looked interesting but as we had just eaten our picnic we didn't try the food. It may be a place that we will go back to... More

We visited this pub for a quick lunch with our children, having seen their impressive advertisements and the large sign at the bottom of the hill. Really wish we hadn't. My son chose belly of pork which, once the rubbery skin (not crackling) and thick layer of fat were removed, was reduced to a mouthful of meat. The vegetables were... More

Whilst it looks tempting to pop in for a pint after your walk, don't it'll only ruin the end of a nice walk. "This is a local pub" "For local people!"

The title of my review is one of many overheard similar statements loudly given by the regulars who's job was to talk to the barman and block all access to the bar by non-locals whilst singing "Get your jugs out for the lads". It's nice to see that the owner Alan Piper (candidate for UKIP) is also keeping his voting... More
