Value for money

I tend to find Cockermouth expensive to eat out, a meal that would cost £ 8 in Whitehaven costs £ 11 in Cockermouth, but was pleasantly surprised when I came upon Hunters, who offered a meal and a drink for £ 6.95. OK the food isn't Michelin standard, but you get a massive amount for the money and... read more

I had been to the Hunters Bar previously, which left me with the memory of the fantastic steak & ale pie, chips and peas. On my return home, I mentioned that the highlight of my visit to Cockermouth, had been that wonderful meal. Everyone thought I was crazy, even my wife, but it was only when I returned to Cockermouth,... More

I'll be honest it doesn't look great from the outside and when we walked it was empty but it was worth giving it a chance. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was genuinely really good. Don't be put off. Give it a try.

It's winter - Cockermouth is cold. With dog in tow, we were having trouble finding a place to get warm.. Hunter Bar welcomed us and the dog with vegetarian food and kindness. Highly recommended.

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime, hardly anyone in. The food seemed to take quite a while to arrive. Burger was dry and not too pleasant tasting - a little fruity. The sausage from the sausage sandwich was also a bit leathery in texture. Chips tasted as though they had been cooked in old fat and again, not very nice. Didn't... More

Was just looking for a quick bite to eat, went in here one Friday afternoon, the menu was decent, lady behind the bar was pleasant, our food arrived quickly after we ordered and the meal was nice.

I chose fish and chips with a hot drink, good value :) The fish was lovely, the batter was hot and crispy and the chips were fantastic.

I have visited this really nice bar a few times on my own whilst working in the area as it is well decorated, clean, and family friendly. I therefore returned on a future visit with my family for a pre - supper drink and some food which was excellent, very fairly priced and served by very polite staff -. Highly... More

We came here as a quick fix for lunch when in Cockermouth - there were 11 adults and two toddlers and the pub coped very well for us. We had a range of food, all quite good value - soup and a sandwich for £5. They over did the butter on the sandwich but it was nice. Our meals ranged... More
