I liked the way this old inn has been refurbished - nicely set-out and warm welcoming wood burner on a drizzly December night. Good beer - three real ales and a real cider on tonight - and the staff were quite happy. Wood flooring and peaceful atmosphere - mind you it is Monday.

What a gorgeous pub, we always visit this pub when we are in cockermouth but it's a shame the staff are so miserable. This pub would be so much better if it did food, they are definitely missing a trick as it's got such a great layout and is crying out to be a gastro pub.

Visiting Cockermouth it's never easy which to visit firts, the Bush or 1761. Perhaps the best solution is to go to both. Each a very different style, but both very good. 1761 isn't really a restaurant, it seems to be nibbles to accompany the beers, which are varied and well kept. The pair of them are far and away the... More

Lovely pub, serving excellently kept beer. We took shelter from the blazing sun here(I know) and the interior was cool and interesting. My wife had a tapas of home made humus and said it was very good. I would heartily recommend this pub.

This is a great little bar and has the bonus of board games to while away the time!! The staff are great and there is a good range of beers and wines as well as the usual spirits. Perfect for a relaxing drink at any time.

We often visit here - on a vibrant Friday, wet Saturday afternoon or even lazy Sunday!! Always friendly staff, great beer and tasty nibbles. What more could you want. Excellent and keep up the good work

We didn't actually eat here. We sheltered from a rain and thunderstorm. It was cosy and lovely and we had a few games of Trivial Pursuit - there was a stack of board games available.

My wife and I are frequent visitors to Cockermouth and always head for either the Bush, The Castle or 1761. The 1761 is very welcoming, the lady host always acknowledges us and her staff are quick, friendly and on the ball. The pub has a lovely atmosphere, both kids and dogs are made welcome, board games are available for the bairns... More
