Far to over priced for what is served!

Went as a group of four... Had 3 starters and 4 mains! (2 glasses of house wine, 2 shandies and 2 beers) Starters as prawn cocktails, chicken liver pate and chicken g, the chicken g were definitely home made, Could have done with a bit more flavour--was really greasy.... Pate and prawn cocktail... read more

Called in for an evening meal. Wowsa, what a plateful of food we were given - neither of us could possibly eat it all. Less is sometimes more. Nonetheless ithe food was tasty and good value for the amount on the plate. Would prefer less on the plate and costs reduced a little to reflect this. Looked like many others... More

I had heard good reports about this pub, but I will not be going in here again. I arrived on a busy Saturday night, although there seemed to be tables available, on 2nd glance I realised that they were reserved, so I ended up eating my tea on a sofa near the kitchen door. I ordered what appeared to be... More

After going to The Ship on a regular basis today at 12-30pm we took friends for lunch (4 adults & 4 children), there was about 12 people in the place, when a waitress came to us and said they were too busy to take us as they were short staffed in the kitchen. Pleased they can turn money away we... More

due to hearing The Dovenby Ship was now under new ownership we couldn't wait to go and try it out again. The new owners have really upped the game of the place, portion sized are still as generous although they offer a small portion option which was brilliant for the female members of our group. Staff were very friendly and... More

The family and I ate here midweek and where suprised how busy it was which is always a good sign. We received a warm welcome and where served our drinks and shown to our table promptly a good start. The menu is what I would describe as traditional pub fayre the usual choices nothing out of the ordinary, some available... More

Went here for sunday lunch and was very nice. The portion sizes were massive so I had a smaller size, which was still really big! Service was nice and friendly and price of food was £9.98 for roast which is fine for a meal which was so big but not when you had to leave some for being to full!... More

I have used this restaurant with the previous owners and thought it excellent but the new owners far exceeded my expectations. I had the Sunday roast and it was delicious.

Attended the Ship Inn for a anniversary. We reserved our table and were very surprised at how prompt the staff were. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. All in all it was great value and I will return.

It's been a while since I've been to the Ship but the food is still as good as ever. The staff are always polite and attentive. I had one of their specials, double cheese burger "not for the faint hearted" and they were right! Huge!
