Just called in for the first time on a Friday night and was lucky enough to get a table. The service was really good and friendly and we both enjoyed the steak pie. I chose a local (Loweswater) real ale which was unusually pale but extremely good. The atmosphere was great without being noisy. Not the cheapest pub meal I've... More

Always a lovely meal here, same prices as a bar meal but nicer surroundings & atmosphere. Pleasant staff too.

We visit the castle bar every time we come to Cockermouth, all the staff are great so is the ale & food!! We also hired the function room for our after wedding party and can thoroughly recommended that to anyone.

I think my title says it all tbh. A broad selection of beer, which you can sample if you are not sure which one to have. A good menu with great portion sizes for the hill walkers among you! I even enjoyed the atmosphere inside. Waitress's were on the ball despite that fact I was sat in a dark corner.... More

Have been here many times - Great menu and food, friendly staff, always busy. There are three floors to the bar and for sunny days an outside terrace.

Have been here many times and will continue to go as long as the quality of food is maintained. I have never had a bad meal there yet. On my visit this week I found the staff to be particularly slow even though it wasnt full.hopefully this is a one off

During a short stay found this pub bar area not the most attractive but the staff and good quality food made up for a poor first impression. Excellent value for money especially with real ale at £2 a pint up to 7pm portion size was massive and quality and presentation excellent well worth a visit.
