Quality local pub (with BT Sport!)

We were on holiday in the area with the family and my son and I were desperate to watch the Gunners play in the Emirates cup on BT Sport. Had our 30th Anniversary meal here during a visit to Cockermouth. Blown away by the quality of food served here. I had Lamb Henry. OMG. Mint gravy, every vegetable under the Sun, and a side of onion rings to share: home made! Hubby had Sirloin steak, with all the veg and a lush pepper sauce. Outstanding! Lovely selection of wines to... More

Went here with a few friends on a Saturday afternoon. We all got food and no one had a bad word to say. The food arrived in good time and the portions were excellent. The place itself is set out really nice with the bar area just as you go in. There a few different levels and little corners you... More

Saw the positive reviews so decided to give The Castle Bar a visit. Large selection of drinks and a lovely beer garden. Food was very reasonable and portion sizes were generous. My girlfriend and I both ordered fish and chips, we were given absolute whales!! Lovely fish and freshly made chips. I have a large appetite and was just able... More

Excellent beer garden - appeals to families and couples alike. Haven't tried the food but it looked quite good.

Had a drink with friends in this bar on Friday,Saturday and Sunday must say something. Friday was very entertaining as school was out for summer and the place was crammed.Saturday was a little quieter and I decided to sample the cod and chips which would have fed 4 of us. Sunday had an excellent female vocalist playing a guitar for... More

I've just had an excellent meal in the Castle Bar Cockermouth. I'm Vegetarian so It's not always easy to find a really delicious Pub Meal without spending a fortune. I had Mozzarella Sticks (again!) and the most delicious Creamy Vegetable Pie. A massive chunk btw not a piddly portion. It came with a choice of Double cooked chips or creamy... More

Only ate here once as every time we tried to book they were full, a good sign I suppose. Good honest food served promptly by very nice staff. Just remember if wanting to eat on a Saturday night you would probably need to be living there and able to book a week in advance!
