We went to The Castle for lunch on Sunday 27th of July, we arrived just after 12 and were seated without booking which was pleasing. The starters came two of them were very good (mushrooms and Black Pudding) but the Brie Wedge was still cold in the middle we accepted this as deep frying food can sometimes make it difficult... Great food, not cheap but very tasty steaks and the best onion rings I have ever had! Excellent setting and the service spot on! Definitely the best so far in Cockermouth.

I have reviewed this place a couple of times before and have been impressed with the food and service. However on my two recent visits the food has left me underwhelmed both in quality and value for money. The food hasn't been bad just not up to previous standards in my opinion. I hope this is temporary as I like... More

This is the perfect place to go for food in Cockermouth if you like good pub grub. There are other pubs in town that do good food but it is pricey for what it is. I have returned time and time again to Castle bar for work do's and family meals as it offers good quality, tasty food for good... More

We have been to this pub almost every time we go to Cockermouth as it has always given us good beer and good food. So it is a disappointment when it falls apart as it did last Saturday. I know it was a busy day - Woolfest was on - but that doesn't excuse the quality. We arrived at around... More

I enjoyed my food.. Choosing the nandos for starters and the pulled pork for my main. Can't fault the food, staff were very helpful always offering drinks. One member of the party could not eat their starter, apparently was not up to standards at all. A little on the pricy side, but as a treat out I would definitely recommend... More

After going to the castle bar in January and having had a poor meal I had intended not to go back...however, I went there for a meal in June 2014 and can report that the quality of food has improved greatly.. I went with 2 friends . I had rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly along with seasonal... More

Ate here on the 29/5/14. We chose this place because of the good reviews. We both had a starter which was nice but then had to wait a further 30 minutes for the main. I had a vegetarian option which was nice and hubby had a steak which he asked to be well done but there is well done and... More

We visited on a busy Saturday evening. Cockermouth was a wonderful town, not your usual Saturday evening full of louts. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was generous and good value. Expect to pay circa £10 for a main with £5 or so for a starter and desert. There are more up market places and also cheaper... More

Decided to eat here with my Wife and two daughters (13 & 10). Great food, relaxed and stylish atmosphere and staff who are keen to ensure you enjoy your visit. One waitress in particular was brilliant. Ask for Sam!
