Ate here several times before but wasnt quite up to par. We where a party of six and service for our table was significantly slower than other smaller tables around us (like the kitchen tried to rush out there orders before starting ours). That said food is almost what it says on the tin. Gastropub is a very generous term... More

Visited with my parents, husband and baby daughter and parents' dog. Staff were welcoming and very tolerant of the dog, who's a bit boisterous and insisted on sitting on the chairs. No one batted an eyelid though and many commented on the dog's cuteness. The food was good and so was the beer, and there wasn't a long wait, but... More

I used to be a regular diner at the Castle Bar it used to be consistently lovely. In the last few months though I think there must have been a new chef and the food has deteriorated a lot. The Lasagne was the best I had ever tasted but now it it dry and flavourless. Sack the chef and bring... More

staff and locals were so friendly. Didn't eat there but plenty of people did. Will do though next time. The real ales were great

As usual, could not fault the friendly helpful waitress, bubbly and helpful as always but unfortunately on this occasion the food let it down, Garlic mushrooms like soup, chips chewy, didn't think that was possible, lasagne dry. Really like this place and normally the food is good but may not be back for a while.

Had a wonderful meal at The Castle Bar, Cockermouth. I could not find any fault with the food but be prepared to wait...We had to wait 45 mins after ordering for a Sunday lunch but it was worth the wait. Would definitely go again if in this direction.

I booked to go for a meal at the Castle Bar with a group of friends. One of the reasons for choosing it was that I'm gluten intolerant and their menu had several items marked as "available gluten free". I contacted them beforehand to ask if I needed to order in advance but was told I could order when we... More

Nice place to go for a pint or two, especially with the sport on the televisions. Different sections offer different atmospheres which is good. Had a few disappointing meals however, and wouldn't recommend the rump steak. As a pub, its great. As a restaurant, not so much

Visited the Castle Bar 2 nights running so impressed by the first visit. The food excellent, service prompt and very pleasant could not have asked for anymore. Would re visit when in the area.
