We have been to this pub almost every time we go to Cockermouth as it has always given us good beer and good food. So it is a disappointment when it falls apart as it did last Saturday. I know it was a busy day - Woolfest was on - but that doesn't excuse the quality. We arrived at around... More

I enjoyed my food.. Choosing the nandos for starters and the pulled pork for my main. Can't fault the food, staff were very helpful always offering drinks. One member of the party could not eat their starter, apparently was not up to standards at all. A little on the pricy side, but as a treat out I would definitely recommend... More

After going to the castle bar in January and having had a poor meal I had intended not to go back...however, I went there for a meal in June 2014 and can report that the quality of food has improved greatly.. I went with 2 friends . I had rack of lamb and it was cooked perfectly along with seasonal... More

Ate here on the 29/5/14. We chose this place because of the good reviews. We both had a starter which was nice but then had to wait a further 30 minutes for the main. I had a vegetarian option which was nice and hubby had a steak which he asked to be well done but there is well done and... More

We visited on a busy Saturday evening. Cockermouth was a wonderful town, not your usual Saturday evening full of louts. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was generous and good value. Expect to pay circa £10 for a main with £5 or so for a starter and desert. There are more up market places and also cheaper... More

Decided to eat here with my Wife and two daughters (13 & 10). Great food, relaxed and stylish atmosphere and staff who are keen to ensure you enjoy your visit. One waitress in particular was brilliant. Ask for Sam!

We ate here on 3 occasions while staying nearby for a 5 days. It is a dog friendly pub and the staff were very helpful and chatty. A bonus was happy hour from 5pm to 7pm with local ales to chose from. The portions were huge and the food delicious. We enjoyed all of our meals and struggled to finish... More

Went for my birthday with our young family. It was child friendly in that there were felt tips and pictures to colour however the pizza that we ordered was a base with melted cheddar with large chunks of tomato which did not go down well with our children. We were not made to feel welcome and the girl at the... More

I recently spent an evening at The Castle Bar with friends for a birthday and none of us could fault a thing! The atmosphere was great and the food even better! I and one friend had the southern fried chicken strip burger with salad and sweet chilli mayo and it was beautiful, they also offer a great vegetarian range as... More
