Decent but could be better

The setting was nice with view of the garden when look through large windows. It is a buffet style of afternoon tea: meaning partly self-service. Selection of tea was decent as well as food range. In short: if you're a vegetarian, and a supporter of clotted cream on scones, avoid this place. My partner and I came here for afternoon tea for my birthday. The setting was really nice, with good service, friendly staff, and comfortable seating. There was a nice selection of teas, but could have more options for coffee. As both my partner... More

Decided to eat at this hotel's restaurant on our first night in Ambleside as it had good reviews on Tripadvisor and was very close to our B&B. We arrived from the back of the hotel to find conflicting signage telling us where the entrance was. Once inside the hotel was very well presented and with very attentive staff. We were... More

This was a return visit after nearly 20 years and it was very reassuring to find that all the good points of excellent service and quality food were still there. The dinning room has been tastefully refurbished retaining the pleasant atmosphere of a traditional country hotel. We will certainly visit again.

I treated my mum and her friend to afternoon tea at this establishment, for Mother's Day. We went a few weeks after the official date. We were very early for the sitting we had chosen but were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a nice drink in the very neat and tidy lounge. Cometh the time to enjoy the afternoon tea, we... More

We booked a table here for our wedding anniversary over Easter weekend. It is a nice restaurant with a fairly good choice of food on the table d'hôte menu. Also an extensive wine list. Service was good too.

Stopped over for a afternoon tea on the final day of our holiday. The afternoon tea is a buffet style, which is a little different but probably means you eat more of the things you like. For me the sandwiches weren't varied enough (3 out of 4 contained mayonnaise which I don't eat), but the sweets were many and varied.... More

Very comfortable lounge for pre-lunch drinks whilst perusing the menu. I chose lambs kidneys in Madeira sauce as a starter, followed by Mallard duck. Both very tasty and good selection of vegetables also perfectly cooked. My wife chose smoked salmon followed by loin of pork with crackling, apple sauce, roast potatoes and vegetables. Much enjoyed. I finished with an excellent... More
