Decent but could be better

The setting was nice with view of the garden when look through large windows. It is a buffet style of afternoon tea: meaning partly self-service. Selection of tea was decent as well as food range. In term of taste, it was enjoyable: sandwiches were lovely though kind of different from other places... read more

We went for dinner midweek. We were not staying in the hotel, but the restaurant is open to all. It's kind of like going back in a time warp to the 80's. It's a real old fashioned hotel, but in a good way. The staff were great and the food is excellent. We both had the lamb for main course... More

Enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea here. It was buffet style and you could have any selection that you wanted of cakes and sandwiches, scones etc, and as much as you wanted too. Booking essential

We received a voucher for Afternoon Tea and selected Rothay Manor from the list. We arrived a little early which was not a problem. After being seated in a lounge where 2 other parties were also sat , a gentleman came in and took our preferred choice of tea/coffee. He then told us the procedure for selecting our food. This... Had a very civilised meal with family - super food and the staff were exceptional. We were looked after so well - nothing was too much trouble will go back again.

With a menu that changes on a daily basis, using a lot of local produce, and friendly but very professional service, it`s a thoroughly enjoyable experience.

This was our forth visit here for afternoon tea. We have always had a good meal in the past, but today's was very disappointing. There didn't seem to be much choice to eat this time and my tea didn't seem to have much taste. .

In short: if you're a vegetarian, and a supporter of clotted cream on scones, avoid this place. My partner and I came here for afternoon tea for my birthday. The setting was really nice, with good service, friendly staff, and comfortable seating. There was a nice selection of teas, but could have more options for coffee. As both my partner... More

Decided to eat at this hotel's restaurant on our first night in Ambleside as it had good reviews on Tripadvisor and was very close to our B&B. We arrived from the back of the hotel to find conflicting signage telling us where the entrance was. Once inside the hotel was very well presented and with very attentive staff. We were... More

This was a return visit after nearly 20 years and it was very reassuring to find that all the good points of excellent service and quality food were still there. The dinning room has been tastefully refurbished retaining the pleasant atmosphere of a traditional country hotel. We will certainly visit again.
