Really enjoyed our lunch last week - lovely surroundings, rustic and quite simple, a friendly waiter and really good food. Husband loved his liver and onions, our friend enjoyed her quiche and salad, and I was really impressed with my vegetarian dish - a very tasty potato cake, on a bed of puréed peas and topped with a poached egg.... Having visited many years ago and had a terrific meal, I was horrified to find it a plastic imitation of its former self. Service was rapid but lacked class. Evidently it turns out it is all about getting you in and out, something the kitchen helps with by providing almost inedible food that came straight from the freezer, deep fat... More

A group of four friends, we visited on Thursday evening, 13th November, to celebrate two of the party's birthdays. I dine out frequently and Thursday's dinner proved one of the most enjoyable ever. Often in the British winter, sitting still at a table, I feel a little chilly, but at Sheila's I was perfectly warm. We each chose different dishes,... More

Had the best cream tea ever here. A scone with cream and jam and a piece of Borrowdale tea bread with a generous slice of Lancashire cheese. All great quality served in a nice restaurant. Another place on our must visit list for when we return to Ambleside.

Nice, cosy restaurant, had an excellent meal - Lamb Chump, a big chunk of lamb well cooked, lovely good sized starter, good sized portions, If there are 27 better restaurants than this in Ambleside then I'll eat my hat - as long as it was cooked here!

Historic liver and bacon, really quirky, we were lucky as we booked on the advice of others, most enormous sticky toffee pudding I've ever tried to get through!!! Tasted delish.

The choice of menu was excellent, with vegetables included in the price. Though quiet for a Sunday evening the lower room had a good number dinning. The Afternoon was very busy, so we were glad we went back.

The coffee was as cold as the staff (as were the scones!!) The only positive I have to say is the amount of time the waiter took to clean the place. "Never judge a book by it's cover" comes to mind with this place, as it looks warm and inviting from street view and is totally the opposite once you're... More
