Visited here for afternoon tea and a bowl of soup. Lovely setting and atmosphere. Soup was very nice but we found the cream for the scones a bit watery. The thing that let this place down was lackluster service where the 2 waiters were more interested in playing on their phones. Other than that though a pleasant experience and lovely... More

Being a really fussy eater I can find it hard to find places to eat however the Cumberland sausage is a particular recommendation! It's been a few months since out visit so I hope this is still on the menu! The service is friendly and welcoming and the food is well portioned and well presented.

Walking around Ambleside and looking for somewhere to have a light lunch, came across Sheila's Cottage Restaurant, almost by accident when taking a short cut. Glad we did, nice welcome when we entered and shown to a table immediately. Nice varied lunchtime menu and pleasant staff. House Club sandwich ordered which was served without too much of a wait, the... More

We've noticed this interesting little place on our many visits to Ambleside but not popped in to eat until this time... and we we're really glad we had done. We were looking for somewhere to eat before their evening menu was displayed, but read the daytime menu and it looked tempting enough to pop back to try the evening menu.... More

Whenever we visit Ambleside we always seen to gravitate towards Sheila's Cottage for lunch. It is very consistent and we always enjoy whatever we choose. The choice of menu is different from run of the mill cafes. The four of us really enjoyed our food and will return in the future.

Lovely atmosphere, cosy yet classy. Some of the best meals we've had! (Ribeye steak; and haddock) and they had a lovely french rosé from the Oc region. Friendly staff too. We had a lovely evening here :)

Booked Dinner here on a Friday night, after an absence of many years since our only previous visit. Just like a previous reviewer, we couldn't understand why initially we were the only ones in the place! A few more people arrived while we were there, either prebooked or passing trade. We had an excellent meal, starter and main. An interesting... More

We visited Sheila's Cottage in December following a walk & received a really warm welcome. We ordered a pot of tea and a ham & piccalilli sandwich each, which arrived promptly and was very tasty. A perfect post walk treat! I noticed other people having scones, etc - all of which looked yummy. Unfortunately we found the place to be... More
