Found this little place when wondering round Ambleside looking for lunch. There is a reasonable choice on the menu along with delicious home made cakes and scones. Fair choice of drinks including their spiced berry drink(mulled wine without the alcohol) which was very tasty on a cold wet day. The home made Bakewell tart was so full of Almond taste,... More

Visited briefly for afternoon tea after a trek up and down Loughrigg Fell. I'd been before, a few years ago, and really enjoyed the Borrowdale Tea Bread with Lancashire cheese. I want disappointed this time and the coffee and walnut cake was also very nice and a substantial portion. Not cheap, I suppose, but no more expensive than the chain... More

After stumbling accross Sheila's Cottage we had high hopes from looking at the exterior. However we found only one member of staff offered service with a smile. The other members of staff seemed very uninterested, like it was too much of an effort to take our orders. Food was average and overpriced for tea and cakes. Such a shame as... More

Recommended by a local lady in the leather shop, and much appreciated! Probably the Best Sandwich I have ever had, salmon was excellent, and the ham and egg, you get a mass of salad, my wife and I shared. staff very friendly and attentive, great value lunch, highly recommend, one thing I would like to see would be a sharper... We stopped in Ambleside after a walk in the fells, finding Shelia's Cottage...we were kind of shown to our table by a young girl (who I think may have wanted to be somewhere else). We sat upstairs which was quaint. we ordered a teacake and tea. Tea was good as it was leaf. The young girl gradually got a little... More

Now that's what I like: just chancing on a town, and appreciating the sound of the menu you read on the first window you look in. This didn't disappoint. Our guests chose liver and bacon (why do that when you can make it at home, I thought?) But this was a little different; I would never have thought of adding... More
