Description: Sheila’s Cottage is a quaint cottage style licensed restaurant tucked away down a quiet lane, in the heart of Ambleside. Behind the traditional Lakeland slate exterior you will find our cosy interior with an eclectic mix of original old features, complimented by modern lighting and air conditioning. At Sheila’s Cottage we serve both lunch and evening meals and pride ourselves on a great selection of home cooked food which has, where possible, been sourced locally. Our food is accompanied by a wide choice of loose leaf teas, freshly ground coffees or by a carefully chosen selection of wines, spirits and beers.

We stopped in Ambleside after a walk in the fells, finding Shelia's Cottage...we were kind of shown to our table by a young girl (who I think may have wanted to be somewhere else). We sat upstairs which was quaint. we ordered a teacake and tea. Tea was good as it was leaf. The young girl gradually got a little... More

Now that's what I like: just chancing on a town, and appreciating the sound of the menu you read on the first window you look in. This didn't disappoint. Our guests chose liver and bacon (why do that when you can make it at home, I thought?) But this was a little different; I would never have thought of adding... More

We gazed through the window one evening and decided to see if they had any tables free. To our delight they had. The waiter took us to our table, enquired if we would like a drink and took our order. My wife and I both had Westmoreland ramequin to start. Followed by Chilli marinated tuna steak for the one to... More

This restaurant came highly recommended from our B&B and travel guide but we were disappointed. It looked very cosy from outside, but once we were seated, we noticed the lack of comfy atmosphere and the loud air con. Again the menue sounded good, but the food proved disappointing, much too heavy and ingredients not well balanced.

Been coming to Sheila's cottage for years, sadly this was our last visit. Staff simply not engaged, whatever happened to being shown to a table rather than being pointed to one, lack of enthusiasm and lack of basic understanding of customer service, no greeting or a thank you as we left. Basic basic! Felt that the facilities required some attention... More

The chips, (with the burger), were exquisite. I would return for the chips. The food in general was marvellous, with very large portions. We went in because I had seen it was highly rated on Tripadvisor. I do not regret this decision.

Having read some of the other reviews of this restaurant, we weren't quite sure what to expect. First and foremost, my wife and I both thought the menu was excellent and the quality of the food just as good. The quality of the menu and the food is the primary consideration for us, and we were very impressed by both;... More
