We are regular annual visitors to Ambleside, but this was our first visit to Sheila's. Wish we had tried it before. The service was unhurried, friendly and attentive. Most of the starters though at first we thought a little pricey at £6.95, were amply portioned and absolutely delicious. We tried the pork belly, chorizo & black pudding salad, soup (£4.45),... More

I popped into Sheila's for a large slice of Victoria Spong Cake, i was surprised at just how large the slice was, and a pot of loose leaf tea on a rainy afternoon. I was very impressed, its so quaint and cute inside and clearly looked popular with a number of locals as well as tourists. The menu was quite... More

We were staying at the restaurant's sister establishment, the Gables; so we tried this place for an evening meal. I can't fault it. Great food, good wine, great service. A very comfortable place to eat of an evening. Thoroughly enjoyed the meal here.

Just popped in for a cup of tea and a scone. Judging by the number of places looking for staff this is clearly an issue in Ambleside but this was the first place where we were confronted with this reality. A waiter who even if his English was better should never be seen apart from perhaps at Fawlty Towers. The... More

The food was lovely, but the service was terrible.. The waiteress looked like she didn't want to be there.. which made me feel uncomfortable.. we were never offered condiments with our meal.. and no follow up was given..

Our family stumbled across this little place down the Ambleside back streets one evening. Plenty of seating and a good Childrens Menu. I had the Haddock. I don't think that I have ever had such a lovely meal. The staff were attentive and helpful, even supplying an extra spoon for desert 'just in case'. My daughter had a good sized... More

Arrived after a heavy rain shower on a Monday evening, getting to the restaurant at around 7:15. We were seated immediately and menus brought over with no delay. We then sat with no one coming over for a drinks order or anything before hearing a member of staff telling another table that there was at least a 20 minute wait... More

My family had a delicious lunch or cream tea and the food was excellent. After trying to find somewhere that sold scones without currants and sultanas, this little gem had exactly what I wanted. The service was very good but the value for money and size of the portions were great. Would definitely recommend.

We went to Sheila's on a Saturday night with our 5 yr old. It had been a red hot day and the restaurant had air conditioning which was much needed too cool us down. After our many visits to Ambleside this was our first meal here and it was lovely. Plenty of choice and beautifully cooked meals when they arrived.... More
