Lucy's on a plate has been operational now for over 20 years and offers a unique and quirky dining experience - everchanging but the ethos remaining the same - catering for a variety of different palates - especially popular for the range of gluten free dishes and delicious desserts ... over 30 desserts made on the premises from Borrowdale Sticky Banana Pudding through to Apple and Almond Eve's Pudding as well as innovative and inventive temptations. Ensure you book for the evening menu and you could find yourself mentioned in dispatches-great for birthdays and special occasions - there's a lovely large table for bigger groups (up to 16) and special celebrations are most welcome, without destroying the romantic ambience in the evening - the menu is changed daily with a wide range of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes(gluten free again marked clearly on the menus)! Join us for Brunch and Lunch at Lucy's from 11am on Saturdays and Sundays. Sunday Lunches and through the week Monday to Friday Lucy's on a plate opens from 5pm with last orders at 9.30pm. Lucy's chooses locally to cook globally. Dine or drink ... with friends, family, loved ones or on your own - Lucy's is a place that once discovered - you'll never forget.

Delicious food and lovely atmosphere

We wandered round Ambleside at 5 p.m. looking for somewhere to eat and came across Lucy's on a plate. It looked very inviting from the outside and they were offering pancakes - savoury and sweet, on Shrove Tuesday. We decided this would do and we certainly were not disappointed. We were on a short break in the Lake District with our dog and rang to ask if they would allow us to bring the dog - they allow dogs by prior booking. We made a reservation for that evening and were met by a lovely staff member and shown to our seat. When we were perusing the menu we... More

Can't believe i haven't reviewed this earlier having visited twice and been overwhelmed by the whole experience, The first time was for an evening meal where in the menu we had a personalized message congratulating us on our Anniversary and the table decorated especially for us this alone sums up the personal attention Lucy's offers. The food both on the... More

On a Monday evening in mid-January my husband and I, who live in the South Lakes area, chose to eat out with friends holidaying in Ambleside. We chose to eat at Lucy's restaurant, as the menu looked interesting. I noticed that the menu catered for people suffering from Coeliac Disease as there were a number of Gluten-Free dishes available, which... More

After a long hike with friends, we went to Lucy's (knowing of the excellent cookery school in Staveley which my hubby had previously attended), we were treated to steaming chocolate and delicious cakes (too many to mention)….as I said, YUM! Worth the detour….

Hi there ... thank you and we agree ... our cakes our deliciously yummy .. and try the desserts next time too - the office is next to the pudding cake kitchen which is a very dangerous place to be! Don't forget though that our new opening times are from 11am on Saturdays and Sundays and from 5pm Monday to... More

We decided to eat here for our friends birthday while staying in ambleside. We arrived for our table that had been booked in advance to find the waiter struggled to to understand our name on booking. Finally sorted we were taken to our table and ordered drinks , I asked if they served draught lager to which the reply was... More

We were staying in Ambeleside for a week and had decided that we would eat at Lucy's midweek, as it had good reviews and offered deals via the Telegraph/Gourmet Society. However on Sunday night I really fancied a roast and it was the only place we could find that did one. What a lovely place. It felt really cosy on... More

My partner and I ate here during our stay (24-27 Jan 2016). He ate a Robert Burns Chicken and Haggis meal and I ate a Vegetable Tagine. Both dishes were beautifully presented and tasted lovely. The house red was smooth. Neither of us ordered starters or desserts so I'm unable to comment further on the food. However as we intend... More
