We were recommended to go here and we weren't disappointed. Our meal was lovely and the chef was really able to accommodate a coeliac with no problem. I had beef which was delicious and although I couldn't have the crumble, the chef made something from the rhubarb that I could have. This kind of service is always welcome! :) I... More

We have eaten here on numerous occasions but last Saturday was disappointing. The menu is unhelpful as it simply lists a few ingredients without any description. The Amuse Bouche was a strange arrangement of carrot shaped beetroot with some nuts and parmesan shavings shared between 2 or 3. This was not what I would have expected and clearly the staff... Arrived at 1pm on a Sunday and managed to get a table for 4. Lovely pub - its only small - and a dining room next door - but a seriously professional kitchen. Ordered the Sunday roast - roast beef, yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables - outstanding. Service was efficient and friendly - especially at the bar despite the... More

We stopped here on recommendation and we're glad we did. The interior is quite small, very cozy - lots of atmosphere. They are well known for their food in the area as well as their microbrewery and with good reason. Food was excellent, served relatively quickly and the beers were delish! This gastropub is well worth visiting and they were... More

Great pub - very nice inside, welcoming staff and good selection of local beers. All the food locally sourced. Seemed busy as car park was full but plenty of room inside - great tables outside and stunning views to accompany a pint (or three) Slight cock up with the lunch order with one of the mains arriving 10 minutes before... Heralded as a 'gastro pub' which is a title well deserved....yet still seems down to earth, accessible to all and welcoming. Food is delicious. Kids a little daunted by the menu but there was a lot of flexibility, which was refreshing. Would always eat here when in the Lakes. Still feels like a good honest pub; just one that served... More

Visited here for lunch today with friends who had been before. I was impressed both with the locally (out the back in a shed) produced ales and the quality of the food. I had a couple of 1/3 beer paddles which allowed me to sample 6 of the micro-brewed beers before deciding which I liked best. My steak and stout... More

We stay in Hawkeshead a few times a year and always book to have a meal here each time as a special treat. The food this time was even above its usual high standard. The menu is short so don't expect a long list of choices but that seems to allow them to focus on getting each dish right. The... More

We managed to get a table here on a Friday night - the place was really busy and there was a really good atmosphere. Good service and the food was above average. I had lamb sweetbreads for a starter and venison for my main, Gill had soup and chicken - all cooked very well (the soup could have been hotter).... More
