Having read other reviews we decided this would be the best Chinese in Ambleside. We were seated right next to the kitchen even though the restaurant wasn't busy - all we could hear were pots being clanged and a very loud extractor fan. I had chow mein, it was bland and very watery. Overall we were very disappointed. Wouldn't recommend... More

Food was gorgeous and really reasonably priced! Just took it back to our hotel and had a glass of wine after a long day!

If you are satisfied with a distinctly average Chinese then this place is right up your street. It is the definition of average Chinese food. The staff are very pleasant and the service is good. The menu is also remarkably well priced, however, the food is quite simply disappointing. The "crispy shredded chilli beef" consisted of a woeful sweet and... More

We have never been tempted to try this restaurant before as it is just outside of the main hub of Ambleside. Their menu is extensive both for food and drink and we had a mixed selection of starters, main courses and drinks. They are happy to tweak dishes to suit your taste. We found the staff very polite and helpful... More

Staying 2 miles outside ambleside, phoned an order through was advised if we spent £35, we could have free delivery. Spent £36, however driver advised there was a £4 delivery charge!! Chips (ordered for kids) were black never seen chips as burnt as these. Prawn sweet and sour was soggy batter with viniger flavoured sauce, was appalling

This restaurant is slightly off the main centre. however, it is within walking distance. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent, food was tasty, overall good value for money. We will definitely visit during our next ambleside trip. This restaurant was much better in terms of service, food and value for money compared to the jintana Thai restaurant we visited... More

We visited China cottage on the off chance and despite them being busy we were given a table with a few minutes wait. The food was tasty and freshly cooked and the service was good. My chicken in black bean sauce was very scrummy with the chicken not the sauce forming the majority of the meal. My egg fried rice... More
