homemade scones, cakes and jacket potatoes... The rattle gill is THE place to enjoy a sweet breakfast or a day stop. I fell in love with their wallnut and coffee cake. My girlfriend had a little crush on the owner... :D warm welcome from the staff was the icing on the cake.

I could say much about the great quality of the food in general, the fact that it is vegetarian and yet offers a great variety, and how the two gentlemen in charge were very pleasant and kind. What sticks to mind, however, are the simply fantabulous cakes! After a nice meal of soup for one, and jacket potato for the... More

Trying to find decent vegetarian food during our trip through the UK was proving quite a challenge but Ambleside has many wonderful options! We decided on Rattle Gill cafe and had a wonderful lunch. It was the best meal of our trip! The cranberry brie toastie was absolutely delicious!

My daughter and I who both love this cafe went to Ambleside shopping and went round to this smashing cafe for a drink. It was a gorgeous warm sunny day so we sat outside with our dog, we have been inside many times as it's doggie friendly. We ordered a raspberry milkshake each and the platter of mini assorted cakes... More

We got stranded in ambleside because of snow and so glad we did because we sought shelter in this delightful, tiny cafe. Friendly owners and atmosphere with beautiful homemade food. We warmed ourselves up with a pot of tea and as we couldn't decide what cake to have we had a taster plate of cake-genius idea.

Recently opened by a Wife and Husband team, this cafe offers magnificent food and drinks. It has cakes freshly made and sold in massive portions close to a sixth of a whole cake. We go there as often as space allows as its reputation is growing. Dogs and their owners welcome as well. We bought some cake to bring home... More

I always try to get a table in the Rattle Gill when in Ambleside. It's got some of the best homemade food and cake around. The soup, cake and coffee never has disappointed yet. Sadly its small and often very busy so its all down to timing! Owners are friendly and take care of their customers. As much as I... More

Hadn't read any of the reviews and found this cafe by accident. We both had a huge portion of quiche (home made & deep) and a mix of tasty salads, plus a cold drinks and then cafetiere coffees. The rest of the food we saw being served looked just as good and lots of people complimented the two guys on... More
