What a find!

After doing quite a longer hike than expected we were ready for a late lunch and stumbled upon this cosy cafe that sits away from the hustle and bustle of the main shops. The owners were so lovely and friendly and so easy to talk to. I ordered a quiche from the specials board and have to say it... read more

You have to seek out this small quaint café, but you will be well rewarded. Run by the business owners, a charming and friendly couple. A cosy café with just five tables seating 17. A simple but good little menu. The food was promptly served and absolutely delicious. Very good coffee to finish with. Top marks!

We went here because of the good reviews on tripadvisor. We had planned on having lunch but the choice was a bit limited for my husband as he cannot eat pulses and didn't want a veggie option at all. I just picked the selection of cakes option- as I was finding it difficult to pick. There was so much for... More

I'm so pleased that I listened to all of the recommendations! This cafe is fabulously welcoming and, more importantly, serves absolutely delicious food whilst catering for a range of dietary requirements. My friend and I visited twice during our stay in Ambleside and the menu was definitely varied enough to accommodate my greedy tummy! Highlights included the dipping plate, the... More

Fab food, excellent friendly service. I cant praise this wonderful little cafe enough. I just wish i lived nearer. We visit every year when we visit the lakes. It never fails to deliver. Small, successful and tasty menu. The salads are wonderful, chilli the best i have had and the lemon and ginger flap jack is a must. I just... More

We have revisited over the last few years and are happy to report that Rattle Gill is still as good as it ever was. The combination of a cozy cafe with a warm friendly atmosphere and superb food is still difficult to beat in Ambleside. The staff are very accommodating with options for those suffering with food allergies, its just... More

After a long cold wet walk, you need in indulge yourself. I found this little place after a brief search on Tripadvisor, the reviews were spot on. We only went for cake and a drink, we couldn't chose 'a' cake so had the taster cake menu...5 samples which were all delicious. A large pot of tea that was bottomless. All... More

We had a cream tea (two scones, cream, jam, butter and a pot of tea) for two at Rattle Grill in Ambleside for £8.50, just this afternoon. It's snug in here, with only about 5 tables, but the couple who run it seemed nice, and everything was efficient. Delightful!

Went here because it was recommended by Tripadvisor, worth the visit in a town with numerous cafes and restaurants, very small place with a limited menu but very nice food, good value for money and pleasant staff
