Mmmmm cakes

Lovely little cafe- one of our favourite haunts when in Ambleside. Relaxed atmosphere, newspapers, great coffee and cakes- can't resist the tasting plate of cakes.

Rattle Gill's food and service is exceptional. I'm not a vegetarian but my husband is, so we visited on his recommendation. We love food and we love cake so this place exceeded our expectations! The place is very small and very popular so we had to wait for a table but it was worth the wait. There are about 6... More

Not sure what all the hype is about, or why it rates so highly, the cakes are very average and the coffee is ok. Tiny little place with very pleasant staff.

We first visited Rattle Gill by chance last year after doing Redscrees. We were hoping it would live up to our memory of it when we visited yesterday and it did not disappoint! !! We went for the smoked bean pot which was delicious. Despite being stuffed we couldn't resist the cakes. We opted for the tasting cake platter. All... More

Perfect place. Tasty, modern cafe dishes, lovely selection of homemade cakes and scones. In a really good location just behind the main street, overlooking a little beck and waterwheel. Inside is really cosy and comfortable. Would go back again and again!

Fabulous cafe which has the most amazing cakes - the cake plate is just the best. Also great selection of quiches and soups. Its just a cool cafe without trying to be and always first class service from its friendly and accomodating owners. Love it!

We had the tasting plate of cakes here. They were absollutely wonderful. The star for me was the chocolate brownie, have never had such a gorgeous cake and I am not a particularly cake person, first time I have eaten any in about 6 months. The staff are lovely, my Husband mentioned that his Nan used to make bread pudding... More

After seeing such good reviews on Tripadvisor I thought I should take the family and give a go. Everybody was glad we did! We called on a busy Saturday afternoon, but there wasn't any issue at all. Everybody was well looked after by the lovely cafe owners, and the selection of cakes we chose went down excellently! We all sat... More

Delicious cakes and tea (had been before, so consistent) but most impressed by friendly service for 7 plus child arriving at closing time on Sunday (let down by neighbouring establishment). Good value and genuinely helpful.

We stumbled across the Rattle Gill Cafe and were so pleased we did. The food was delicious, homemade and generous portions. Whilst there the cafe filled up quickly for lunch and a few people came but left disappointed as there were no free tables, but it is definitely worth a wait!
