We got stranded in ambleside because of snow and so glad we did because we sought shelter in this delightful, tiny cafe. Friendly owners and atmosphere with beautiful homemade food. We warmed ourselves up with a pot of tea and as we couldn't decide what cake to have we had a taster plate of cake-genius idea.

Recently opened by a Wife and Husband team, this cafe offers magnificent food and drinks. It has cakes freshly made and sold in massive portions close to a sixth of a whole cake. We go there as often as space allows as its reputation is growing. Dogs and their owners welcome as well. We bought some cake to bring home... More

I always try to get a table in the Rattle Gill when in Ambleside. It's got some of the best homemade food and cake around. The soup, cake and coffee never has disappointed yet. Sadly its small and often very busy so its all down to timing! Owners are friendly and take care of their customers. As much as I... More

Called into this tiny quirky cafe for coffee and cake. Great quality coffee and amazing huge cakes. We opted for a slice of superb coffee and walnut cake.Staff really friendly.

Hadn't read any of the reviews and found this cafe by accident. We both had a huge portion of quiche (home made & deep) and a mix of tasty salads, plus a cold drinks and then cafetiere coffees. The rest of the food we saw being served looked just as good and lots of people complimented the two guys on... More

We are regular visitors to Ambleside but had never visited The Rattle Gill cafe before! I'm slightly ashamed to admit that we came here because the Giggling Goose was closed, but I'm glad we did. It's small, homely, welcoming and serves filling, delicious vegetarian fare. I had a baked potato with chilli if memory serves me correctly, my wife had... More

I don't think there is much more I can add to other reviews? Perfect little place for lunch/coffee/cake. I had jacket potato with chilli (amazing!) and my partner had chilli combo with sandwich: roast veg, brie and chutney (on delicious bread!) which he described as the best sandwich he's ever had! Only after the meal we've realized the food and... More

After numerous trips to Ambleside I wanted to try somewhere a little different, a vegetarian lunch. Then I remembered the great reviews for this cosy café in the old part of the village, near the post office. I ordered a Rattle Gill Salad and was very impressed by the quality and speedy friendly service. I'll be returning soon with my... More
