Just What Was Needed!

The Spice of Bengal serves Bangladeshi food and other South Asian regional dishes. It is not a luxury restaurant, which is reflected in the price of eating there. The food is good quality, portions of reasonable size, the staff pleasant (bear in mind that they are working through fasting month... read more

I was travelling with my grandparents and they felt like some Indian food, so we decided to go here. BAD DECISION. The place was practically empty besides 3-4 tables but still their service was so bad. The staff is rude and obnoxious. They made my father and grandparents wait for more than an hour after taking their order and did... More

I have visited this restaurant on several occasions and each time the waiting period for your meal to arrive was unacceptable. On the two occasions we did wait for our food to arrive it was really nice. Even when booking a table we still had to wait over an hour before our main dish was served. The restaurant seems to... This restaurant is a disgrace, our feet were literally sticking to the carpets they are that dirty, the table cloths looked like they had just come out of the washer. The whole feel of the place left us uncomfortable. The waiter was rude, the table was not set on arrival, he tossed the cutlery down the table, the waiters nails... More

We ate here on a busy Saturday night and they obviously didn't have enough staff to cover service properly. They tried hard but we had long waits, rushed interactions and had to go to the counter to pay as we couldn't get anyone's attention for the bill. Sadly, the food wasn't great either. There was plenty of chilli in the... More

Came here after arriving quite late for Ambleside (about 9:30pm) and ordered a selection of dishes between my family. The seekh kebab starter looked quite nicely presented but the meat was dry and tasteless (it tasted like one which had been cooked earlier and just re-heated in a microwave). Also, the portion size was very small, about half the size... More

I do not recommend this restaurant. The staff are surly and miserable, as if under some spell. No atmosphere and no frivolity to be found. Dirty walls. As for the food, the meal was identifiable only by its dental records, being for the most part burnt; the naan bread was the worst here, it must be said, burnt so much... More

Found this quite randomly while exploring the town. Good food, nice atmosphere, friendly and accommodating staff. A bit slow service but it was quite busy so not a real issue.

We were a family of 12 (4 were young children) visiting Windermere for the weekend to celebrate a family members birthday. We booked into this restaurant on the Saturday evening and on arriving were shoved into the darkest corner of the restaurant, even though there was lots of space elsewhere ...but hey ho we thought! After a short while we... More

Managed to get a table for 12 of us on a Saturday evening by just walking thru the door should have been a warning sign however the need for Indian food was to much so we decided to stay, the place is a dive and in serious need of an upgrade with its threadbare carpets and dirty grotty toilets, not to...
