Some years ago I asked the manager why there weren't veggy meals listed. He brought out a new menu with veggy specialities.

This consists of 3 old shops knocked together. One part has a tiled floor, the rest has carpet, which must have been replaced since some recent reviews were written. We had barely sat down when our drink and papad order was taken. We ordered our meal when the drinks and papads were delivered. The main courses and breads were served... More

After a good first visit here a year ago, we were keen to go back to Spice of Bengal on our latest visit to Ambleside this week. It was a really busy Saturday night, but we just about managed to get a table. We ordered drinks, then had starters of onion bhajis and Bombay potatoes. Both starters were pretty good... More

We were recommended to try this restaurant but left disappointed. Both of our dishes were average at best. The restaurant was cold, service not good & the two guys waiting on didn't seem to want to be there, dishes very hurriedly dropped down & off he went. Won't return next time we visit Ambleside. Shame!

Starter arrived faily quickly but waited best part of an hour for the main course to arrive. Overall two hours for a curry isn't great but as I wasn't in a... More

Been here a few times over the years. Food is consistently ok to good! If you fancy a curry and you're Ambleside then this is the place, in fact it's the only place! Pretty safe bet if not a tad on the expensive side, but that's the Lake District! Hovered over giving 4 out of 5 but then I live... More

We opted to have a take away and it was fine, not the best and not the worst I've ever had. Would I go back, maybe, but would probably give somewhere else a try first.
