We read the reviews but thought we'd give the restaurant a go with it being the only indian in ambleside. As soon as you walk in you can sense the 'can't be bothered attitude' of the staff. It took ages to be offered a drink and even longer for someone to bring us a menu. We had a young child... More

We took a stroll into Ambleside from the B&B we were staying at and came across the Spice of Bengal. Although it didn't look that inviting from the outside it did appear to be very busy so we decided to give it a try. We are glad we did as we enjoyed a lovely meal, everything came out piping hot.... Called in last night as couldn't find anywhere else open for a takeaway, we were kept waiting for at least 30 minutes and ripped off. Didn't want much just something to nibble while walking back to hotel, 3 portions of chips two with curry sauce £14.95

Well it's obviously in a tourist area cos the service was not good Had to wait for a long time to get any drinks. When they came we ordered our food which when it arrived was hot but placed on the table with a casual approach like it was too much trouble The vegg kori was just potatoes The byriani... More

Seemed to be the only Indian restaurant in Ambleside and we had dinner here during the August bank holiday weekend. The place was busy and the food was fine - standard curry house fare, nothing special - but a little pricey for what it was. Service was functional and the food came quickly enough. Decor poor and could do with... More

The food was ok. My meal was pretty bland and even my kids (who eats bland food) thought the taste wasn't great. They said it was like Asda korma which is indeed tasteless. My wife didn't like hers either. Portions weren't great and they hadn't bothered to add too much chicken to the chicken korma's. Not sure if they are... More

We were sat at 7.30pm. Took our orders our food came at 8.40 pm. Food was good, service was appalling, I actually thought they had forgotten us! Once finished asked for Bill.... waited a further 20 mins, in end got up and paid at the till. Wouldn't go again. Food good if you dont mind waiting!!!

The staff weren't the most attentive and one of them was a bit full of himself, I had to remind them that my main course hadn't come out, it then didn't appear for 10 minutes, I think they'd somehow managed to forget to tell the chef to cook it in the first place, all of our dishes were hotter than... Lovely authentic indian takeaway, a bit on the pricey side, and no delivery option, however 15% discount on takeaway and great food, 5 different dishes and nocomplaints about any. Would use again
