Food was good

Visited the spice of bungalow after a recommendation from a local. We visited on a Friday evening, there were only three other tables occupied in the restaurant. The service from the older gentlemen was very good. He was attentive and noticed when my partners pint was not up to scratch, the lager... read more

Visited the spice of bungalow after a recommendation from a local. We visited on a Friday evening, there were only three other tables occupied in the restaurant. The service from the older gentlemen was very good. He was attentive and noticed when my partners pint was not up to scratch, the lager was changed free of charge. However, the accompaniments... We popped in on a Thursday evening, the restaurant was dead apart from us. The service was fine and the food of average quality - but on the expensive side for the amount we had. Suppose there isn't much choice

Absolutely terrible experience. 12 friends visited over new year. We waited 1 hour and a half for our meals. The chicken in my curry was like chewing rubber. The chips were cheap, all round terrible food and service from the staff. We were never approached to be asked whether our meals were okay or if we needed more drinks. Could... More

Food is excellent. Portion sizes could definitely have been s little bigger, but on the whole we really enjoyed ourselves. Would certainly go again.

I have dined at the Spice of Bengal many times over several years, I have never been disappointed with the service or the food; the only downside to this establishment is the toilet facilities; they do need updating for sure. That being said the choice and quality of the food is super and reasonably priced, the service has always been... More

Even though I'm not fussed on the modern decor (I much prefer the more traditional) this place has always been fine to me. I was concerned after seeing some of the recent negative reviews but visited again for the umpteenth time and had a lovely meal served by attentive and efficient staff. The place was clean and everyone else appeared... More

It’s been 6 years since we have eaten there and to be honest it has not improved, food was between fair to wish we never bothered ordering that (wish we ate somewhere else) service was fair to useless, 3 times we were asked which was the right naan bread and when served it was still the wrong one , as... We love our curries and have been here a few times when staying in Ambleside . The reason we come here is because it is the only curry house in the town. But to be honest it really isn't great. The food is fine and if you need a curry it is all fine. However the service is pretty poor... More

I eat Indian food at least once a week every week 52 weeks a year and have had the pleasure of dining in many and varied establishments around the UK and rest of the world. It was a pleasure to find Spice of Bengal in Ambleside and we enjoyed some very nice cooking at very reasonable prices with very pleasant... More

Decided to order a takeaway from her whilst spending long weekend away. Ordered it so we could pick up in 30 mins. The staff were very polite and the food was excellent and not pricey at all. Definitely recommend for takeaway.
