Overall most of the food we had was quite good, however the chicken in my curry was quite rubbery. The naan was light and tasty, the rice was fluffy but it all comes down to the curry itself which did let the whole meal down. My girlfriend had lamb and she said that her meat was average too. The service... More

Food great. Service a little slow. Restaurant decor a bit tired. I think the waiters (2) could do with some extra help. Overall nice meal

We tried Spice of Bengal in Ambleside last night for the first time, and it was excellent. We had not booked on what was a busy Saturday night, but were quickly found a table. We ordered drinks, then went for starters of tandoori duck and the spicy salmon. The salmon was superb - large chunks of salmon fillet perfectly spiced,... More

Our first impression was scarred by Mr Abul (apparently the manager). Absolutely terrible attitude towards us (a table of 4 customers). Repeatedly confrontational as to what sequence we should be placing our order - "so that it would be easier for us" he said. Was impatient and mumbled that he will give us more time and walked away as soon... More

We think this was the only Indian restaurant locally and therefore had little competition. It was therefore a pleasant surprise to find that they served a good selection of well cooked curry. the service was prompt but the restaurant was not as friendly as in other restaurants we visited during our stay in the Lake District.

Excellent food very well cooked and served promptly with the minimum of fuss. Would highly recommend this curry house.

Two of us ate here one evening, I had the chicken chilli special and my son the garlic chicken. both dishes were really enjoyable and we'd definitely eat there again next time we're in town. It was a wet a dreary early evening in October so there wasn't much of an atmosphere in the place as we were the only... More

We had a takeaway meal for two with a fish and veggie dish, slightly overdone (and extremely large!) naan and rice. The food was plentiful and very tasty. Although we didn't dine-in, the restaurant looked inviting with a Mediterranean cross Indian look to it and we would return to eat-in if we ever return.

Visited about 8pm last Saturday night a party of 11. Table ok but the wait wait wait for food was unacceptable with a 2 hours duration for a few poppadoms, starter & main meal - not good!. Food was quite bland, only just warm and nothing to cheer about, had much better and the final bill of over £270 was... More
