Had a quick pint in the Green Bricks pub then next door into 1884.......deceiving frontage hides quite a large and beautifully decorated eatery. Loved the looped film of Hull history and the enormous aged photographs, environment and atmosphere were excellent. We were attended to as soon as we were met at the front door and shown to the bar. Most... More

I visited this restaurant for the first time yesterday. it is situated next to the marina and was, I understand, a rope making factory. It was a relaxing occasion, not somewhere to visit in a rush or for a snack rather more as a treat or somewhere a bit special. We all had the 2 course special at £14. a... More

Went here for a special treat out with the family and it was wonderful. The atmosphere was perfect, service was very good. This is something very special and is a testament to what Hull can offer. Yes the place is pricey but of course it's going to be, but it's not pretentious and they don't even mind when you order... More

Food quality was good, although some parts not as stunning as you might hope and portions small for the prices of the a la carte menu. Disappointing that staff tried to seat another couple right next to us when it wasn't busy, they asked to be moved for both couples personal space/privacy. Various minor details that were disappointing for the... More

Went to 1884 in December for my birthday. Nice surprise when we walked in as we were told to take a seat an they would bring over a drink. Unbeknown to me my daughter had rung 1884 and ordered a bottle of fizz for my arrival (she said this was no bother to the staff at all). Food very good,... More

There is much to be said about fine dining and cannot help thinking that with a little more focus on the taste and portion sizes this could be a much better experience. Although the surroundings are extremely good it's the whole dining experience you expect when paying higher than average prices, but the focus should be on the food as... More

Visited 1884 in December with my wife and two friends. All thoroughly enjoyed each of our courses. However, I must make a special mention to my starter the Roe Deer Tartar it was without doubt the best starter I have ever had. I recommend to anyone if it's on the menu get it.

I booked a table for myself and my partner for new years eve. At £100 a head it did seem expensive but seeing as we were planning a quiet Christmas I thought a new years treat would be nice. When I booked I was told we needed to pay a deposit which I did and gave my mobile number and... More
