Delightful restaurant with rooms.

My husband and I stayed here for a two night break, over the bank holiday weekend, as we were meeting with friends visiting Dover on a cruise ship. Alkham is very handy for Dover but set in the quieter countryside. We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. We ate the 7 course dinner... read more

Staying in Dover we researched some restaurants before we arrived and ad a choice of three, we picked this one just out of the city and were glad we did. Everything was fantastic well done guys. Service and food top notch.

We have returned to the Marquis after quite an absence and found that we had no complaints about the food and service. I had the Wild Mushroom Veloute which was outstanding followed by the Pan Fried Hythe Sea bass - very good. For dessert we all had the Celebration of Kentish Strawberries, black pepper meringue, Madagascan vanilla ice cream. My... More

This was our second stopover at the Marquis en route to Europe and again it didn't disappoint in most respects. The only ( inexpicable ) issue was concerning the fixed choice menu where we read ( and looked forward to ) a starter of smoked haddock with pea veloute but were presented ( without any warning whatsoever ) with a... We visited the Marquis as a Travelzoo deal. W checked into the room, which was really beautiful. Sadly the weather was not good and so we were unable to take advantage of the balcony. The deal included a four course tasting menu. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and delivered by pleasant, well mannered staff. The following morning we... More

Visited twice for lunch, once on a Saturday and once for Sunday lunch. Both visits were immensely pleasurable - friendly helpful service, a restaurant in a very good location and excellent food. OK it's not the cheapest, but that's not what this place is about. If you want food with provenance and care in the preparation, with some imagination in... More

Had the Kentish 4 course tasting menu ,excellent choice ( only one tiny fault in that the pork belly served with the pea volute was a little tough ) the dessert was lovely, a very enjoyable meal and the staff were brilliant , will definitely go again.

One of those restaurants with embellished menu which the food does not live up to. Enjoyable but expensive and a bit on the stuffy side for us

I bought my friend a champagne afternoon tea experience so was delighted she invited me to join her at the Marquis. Having visited the restaurant for lunch several times before and enjoyed superb cuisine I had high expectations and was not disappointed on this occasion. We were seated by the window in an otherwise empty restaurant, with an older couple... More
