Four Course Tasting Menu - All nice but not exceptional !

Two of us went for the four course tasting menu and this has left me really indecisive ! The restaurant is quite contemporary all cool grey etc ! For some reason it is one of those restaurants that make you want to whisper ! The starter a leek and potato velouté was overly seasoned and quite... read more

We used to love this place and we'd stay overnight but the chef left and we were disappointed with the food and service at our last visit. Having written a polite (and what we thought was a helpful) letter providing feedback we thought we'd get a response but were again, disappointed. We didn't want to give up on this place... More

A kind of a gem in the midst of the Alkham valley, this is a nice location to visit. You must allow yourself quite some time when visiting however as nothing happens quickly here. The food is interesting but portions are small (as is typical of the type). There is also an element of theatre in the welcome, serving and... More

We booked afternoon tea yesterday with the view that we were going to be in for an exceptional treat based on what I had read on their website, However, disappointingly the service was really slow, the staff lacked peronality and we waited a good 20mins before we were asked what we wanted to order. When the food did come, the... More

We were given an afternoon tea gift voucher for Christmas & decided to use it at the Marquis the setting was lovely & wasn't too busy in January the tea was very nice indeed. Later spoke with our friends.. looked on the Marquis's website & we all agreed to have the le carte menu booked a table for four for... More

Booked again for my mum's birthday/mother's day lunch. A set menu - £24.95 for two courses or £29.95 for three courses, so quite expensive when compared to the Michelin Star restaurant we visited the day before. Although comfortably furnished and beautifully decorated, I wasn't warm and my partner, who is chronically ill, was freezing! The food was lovely but the... More

My partner and I dined here one weekday evening using a Groupon voucher for a four course tasting menu. The food was amazing - beautifully presented, great flavour combinations and exceptionally good value for money. The banana soufflé with caramelised pecans was sublime - the lightest, fluffiest soufflé I have ever sampled. The only aspect which put a dampener on... More

I took my mother to the Marquis for afternoon tea for her birthday and although the food was very good, I found the service to be poor and the afternoon tea offer misleading! Having enjoyed the Marquis tea previously with my husband, I booked an afternoon tea as I thought it was very reasonably priced at around £15 per person.... More

After looking forward to this lunchtime meal for a few weeks, there are areas where this restaurant/hotel needs to vastly improve. The waiting lounge/bar area is ok but could do with a little TLC. The maître d was one the most arrogant men I've come across in a restaurant setting. Which considering prior to my joining TripAdvisor we have been... More
