My friend and I booked afternoon tea about 2 weeks in advance. We were seated in the lounge at the front of the hotel, which was warm and cozy with a lovely fire going. We were happy to be seated next to the fire as we were freezing! We each ordered tea, which came quite quickly. Our 2 tier stand... More

Pricey but very very good. Service is excellent, food served with style and panache. Great wine list. We have eaten in some good restaurants, this one was no exception. Would willingly eat there again.

I had intended to dine at the ABode for a special occasion with my husband and parents. Our arrival at the restaurant was already shambolic- even though my mother was clearly struggling to get out of her winter coat, the staff just stood there watching without helping her. They then only made half-hearted attempts at helping us with chairs, napkins... More

The front bar of the hotel is the best meeting place in town, you can get coffee, drinks and even retreat to the rear lounge for quiet. The restaurant has had a facelift, new menus and quite adventurous it proved to be. This is the venue for a formal lunch after meeting, social or business.

We had lunch here just before Christmas and although the menu looked a little unimaginative with limited choice the food when it arrived was very good. Staff and service were excellent. However the bar and lobby were heaving and it was quite unpleasantly crowded. Not cheap but worth a visit. The restaurant was full so booking is advisable.

Sometimes those Big Hotel restaurants can be disappointing. Not this one. Food was very good and the service not at all stuffy, but professional and well informed. All dishes were full of flavour and of good quality. The large dining room was quite busy for a random Tuesday when we visited, so would think that it is well appreciated by... More

I was expecting something quite special considering all the stickers in the window but was left feeling slightly underwhelmed. The place lacked atmosphere and there were far to many members of staff milling about checking on us so we couldn't enjoy our meal in peace. My main of veal and sweetbreads was superbly cooked but unfortunately there simply wasn't enough... More

I visited here recently with my mum and sister. We had a lovely time despite the sour faced woman on the table next to us having a paddy over being politely and discreetly being asked to remove her rather large hat (I mean honestly, get over yourself love!). The food was delicious and the staff could not have been more... More

We were looking forward to an evening of high cuisine but were left a little underwhelmed. We were of the understanding that it was a Michelin establishment and so expected well balanced exquisite food. The starter of ham hock was small with an apple jelly that was very harsh. The mains were good but nothing more and the chocolate mousse... More
