An exciting and dynamic space

The original railway station warehouse built in 1840 has redbrick walls which were formerly lime-washed and exposed timber roof trusses supporting new roof timber boarding. The shed is used as a farmers’ market with Rafael’s restaurant on a gallery above. It is an exciting and dynamic space. We... read more

We booked very last minute, but we were looking forward to trying the 'Good Shed' for a meal for a long time, but awaited an occasion because of the price tag. We were delighted with the ambience and the setting, I love the big windows. Candles on the tables and quirky crockery. The food was ok, I wouldn't say it... More

Visited Rafaels for Breakfast with some friends and family, despite the restaurant being very busy the staff made sure that my large party were seated quickly. The breakfast as always was amazing!! The staff made sure that the children were entertained with coloring books and pencils. I love the atmosphere in the restaurant which over looks the farmers market. After... More

I was down visiting friends last Saturday, after seeing the article praising this restaurant I asked them they would book a table for us there as a treat. the place itself was very atractive but the staff weren't very good ( and were sloppyly dressed) our waitress forgot what I ordered which was fine but when I told her that... Enjoyed our meal here - ever-changing menu it seems, depending on what's fresh. Emphasis is on different tastes/textures - environment is fun - tables based on a mezzanine level overlooking the market/deli area where lots of beer-/wine-tasting is going on. Good fun and friendly.

Visited for lunch, the vegetarian platter is lovely and changes daily. Bread was a little hard but otherwise fresh produce and would recommend!

First time visitor to the Goods Shed but it will not be my last. Decided to have breakfast which was made up of quality produce and well worth the money. There are different stalls from fish, meat, cheeses, fresh vegetables and we even bought a freshly baked loaf which was lovely. Definately worth a visit if your in Canterbury.

This was my second visit to Rafael's, this time to host a birthday lunch for seven adults. So, the time line went like this. Dead easy to park two cars in The Goods Shed Car Park. Seated immediately at our reserved table. Wonderful atmosphere. You're in the thick of good things here - The Goods Shed has a Farmers Market,... More

"Where's the restaurant?" "At the station" "Near the station?" "No, at the station..." I have not had dinner before in a railway goods shed and, if this is the standard, then I'd be more than happy to try again. We dined early — 18:00 — and there were diners already sitting, waiting; good job we had a reservation. The market... More

We arrived rather late and expected to be turned away, but it was with great relief that we sat down to dine here after a much deserved 16 mile bike ride to and from the Crab and Winkle way (more on that in another review). We hadn't been since one icy cold evening of winter last year and so didn't... More
