Inspired by the Totnes campaign to promote individual coffee shops and recommended bt friends, Browns is now a regular valued destination. A truly original take on serving coffee, with a never-ending variety - it's not the same twice - it is a real inspiration with a great atmosphere. Find out what real coffee, made with commitment and flair, tastes like!

Wow. What can I say about Browns as a coffee shop. As near to perfection as I can imagine. It's so refreshing to see such passion for coffee, being made in a variety of weird and wonderful ways, with the final product being better than I've tasted anywhere. The location, right by the river makes it a beautiful, bright place... More

Was with a severely disabled young man, we stood behind a couple who were being given a very lengthy lesson in coffee - fair enough - but there was a second member of staff behind the counter, sadly neither even acknowledged either of us so after a lengthy and slightly embarrassing wait we left. I understand that some establishments prefer... More

Met a business acquaintance for coffee. Not really a coffee connoisseur and wanted a bigger cup but was told that would 'spoil the flavour'! Nevertheless, after that bad start the coffee was good and it meant we had two cups during our hour long meeting (perhaps that explains the small cups or am I just a cynic!). Cumfy armchairs and... How refreshing to find an establishment that not only accepts dogs but also welcomes them. The coffee is good but there are only a few cakes on offer. A slightly larger selection would be good. Relaxed atmosphere and off the beaten track. Good location near the river.

So let me start by saying I have moved here from Australia where coffee is very good - in fact making coffee is almost an art form. Moving here I knew it would be difficult to find really good coffee but I didn't think it would take me 5 months to find something comparable with home. My husband and I... More

I've been visiting Browns Coffeehouse now for over a year and as a lover of great coffee I can recommend no better place in the whole of Kent, in fact it sits amongst some of my London favourites in terms of quality and service. One of my favourite things about Browns is the variety of coffee they bring in and... More

We walked in for a coffee. We asked for 2 Americano's. The young man suggested tasting the filter coffee. We took his suggestion. If he hadn't mentioned the difference we would not have had the chance to try something different. We had two different kinds of coffee. Both were wonderful. The atmosphere was very laid back, no load music! It's... More

I love the idea of Brown's- a cafe by the river, sofas and a big table for readers or creatives. However, I find their attitude to their coffee a little bit pretentious. Several friends wanted milk in their coffee but were told they were not allowed it as it would spoil the coffee experience. Similarly they were told they could... More

Lovely to find a place in Canterbury with proper coffee! Not everyone will understand the appeal but I certainly do! And delightful salted caramel macarons! I'll be back.
