Nachos and drinks in the garden

The four of us wanted a break from house hunting so we popped in for a drink and snack. The garden was a perfect retreat away from the busy streets of Canterbury. We ordered two plates of nachos which were huge and just what we needed. Service was warm and friendly.

Having been to the white Hart several times before and been happy with the menu and quality it was the natural place to meet for lunch. We were however very disappointed today. We had 4 different meals, chillie con carnie, steak pie, steak burger, and cheese and Tom sandwich. Only the sandwich was truly edible. The other three meals being... More

You'll notice I'm not one for writing reviews, so you may wonder why I'm writing one now? The answer is simple: over the last few months I've been trying to find my favourite spot for a light-lunch-bite in Canterbury. I've eaten in almost every pub, restaurant, burger bar and cafe in Canterbury. After finishing my meal I've always been left... More

There must be more places to eat in the city of Canterbury than any other town or city so it is perhaps inevitable some will let standards slip and not really be too bothered. The White Hart is one such. Food here used to be a distinct cut above the average. It is now very poor indeed. Ham, eggs and... More

The White Hart has the largest pub garden in Canterbury; it goes from one block to another. More importantly the garden is quiet and several blocks from the pedestrian mall in Canterbury. With a fine selection of local Kent-brewed beers, the pub offers an ideal respite from the crowding around the cathedral.

Used this as a base to gather university mates in our 40s meeting for our annual outing. Shepherd Neame beers on tap although one was off the evening we visited. Beer garden is big and on a Friday evening we found a table outside easily. We decided to eat there and the food was good quality, pub fare. Decor inside... More

Tasty locally sourced lunch at a good price. Lovely swishy sofas to relax on. Staff helpful. Nice to step away from the high street.

Very disappointed have been here in the past & had a lovely meal but yesterday's dining experience is one I don't wish to repeat! Shown to table & not advised bar service, food once ordered took 1.5 hours to arrive for just a starter (nachos!) and main course when it arrived was swimming in oil & not as described. Staff... Bad experience all along. First, I have to write the review for the older couple who was refused their order cause they missed the last call by two seconds. This very friendly couple came to the bar to order as I was ordering for my family. When I was done and their turn came they were told that they had... More

Had a very sorry experience last night. Booked a table for 5.30 received main at 7. This was a pre theatre meal. Ordered sausages and mash was more like a casserole whole plate was flooded in gravy thought I was getting a tomato and pork gravy sounded nice, the tomatoes were just plonked on top also. U could see ring... More
