After a visit to the Cathedral

We left the Cathedral after an extensive tour via the quadrangle at the rear, and past the school that is there. Onto the lane and heading towards the town, we came across the Bell and Crown. We left the Cathedral after an extensive tour via the quadrangle at the rear, and past the school that is there. Onto the lane and heading towards the town, we came across the Bell and Crown. I've been in here a few times since moving to Canterbury - nice little pub, good banter out of the staff and some decent beers on tap. Nice to sit outside on a warm day and put the world to rights. Or you could be like us and prop the bar up on a Saturday night until closing. Either way,... More

A fantastic friendly pub-with a great range of drinks all at very competitive prices. Sitting outside you see the cathedral and another old church making it a bit more scenic than a city centre pub (although it is pretty close to the town centre) locals are friendly and may even welcome a hand as they do the crossword at the... This pub is a must visit for us when in Canterbury, arguably the best and most traditional old style boozer in the heart of the city, yes there are many traditional pubs in the area but many rely on food, the bell and crown is mostly wet trade but there is a good pub grub menu on offer to. The... More

We always make a visit here when in Canterbury. The pub offers great local ales from small Kentish brewery's and are served in fine condition. The pub has a nice atmosphere through the day with locals and visitors to the city having a bite to eat but it is the evening that this place comes alive, a buzzing atmosphere with... More

This is a small local pub with a small menu available before 5:00 pm. The plough an is great! It is so good I haven't tried anything else. The ploughman is large enough to serve two as a meal or four as a snack. We order the cheese and ham which consists of two large chunks of cheese (different types),... More

There's nothing wrong with the furniture, decor, or stock of this small traditional side-street pub. However, a potentially pleasant evening here was completely marred by the appalling behaviour a group of men in their 30s at the next table, whose loud drunken singing (if their tuneless bawling could be called that) and aggressive shouting made it completely impossible for anyone... Love this joint - been coming for ages. Do a good range of beers, got a great jukebox, its close to the centre of town and theres a chippy and curry house nearby. Outside seating too and while its in Canterbury, its not too close to the centre to be packed with tourists.

I had already eaten in this pub about a year ago and although the food was good, the service wasn't top as was really slow. This time, it was far better. The beers were good and local, though can't remember there names We all had the fish and chips, which was just excellent, far far better than I thought we... More

Popped in for a spot of lunch and quick drink. Had the burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. They had a selection of 5 local ales on which were beautifully kept and served . will be coming back.
