Great traditional pub

We always make a visit here when in Canterbury. The pub offers great local ales from small Kentish brewery's and are served in fine condition. The pub has a nice atmosphere through the day with locals and visitors to the city having a bite to eat but it is the evening that this place comes alive, a... read more

This is a small local pub with a small menu available before 5:00 pm. The plough an is great! It is so good I haven't tried anything else. The ploughman is large enough to serve two as a meal or four as a snack. We order the cheese and ham which consists of two large chunks of cheese (different types),... More

There's nothing wrong with the furniture, decor, or stock of this small traditional side-street pub. However, a potentially pleasant evening here was completely marred by the appalling behaviour a group of men in their 30s at the next table, whose loud drunken singing (if their tuneless bawling could be called that) and aggressive shouting made it completely impossible for anyone... Love this joint - been coming for ages. Do a good range of beers, got a great jukebox, its close to the centre of town and theres a chippy and curry house nearby. Outside seating too and while its in Canterbury, its not too close to the centre to be packed with tourists.

I had already eaten in this pub about a year ago and although the food was good, the service wasn't top as was really slow. This time, it was far better. The beers were good and local, though can't remember there names We all had the fish and chips, which was just excellent, far far better than I thought we... More

Popped in for a spot of lunch and quick drink. Had the burger and it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. They had a selection of 5 local ales on which were beautifully kept and served . will be coming back.

Drinking pub. Decent jukebox - well kept beer. Friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere for all (even for women who enjoy the odd pint on their own)!!

Came here twice during a 3 night stay. Loved the erdinger and leffe on draught and erdinger dark in bottles. Nathan the barman was fantastic. Great sense of humour and needs his own pub. Jazz the young blonde who's off to uni soon was also excellent and had a great personality. We just seemed to click with the staff and... More

Stopped at this pub for a late lunch on a visit to Canterbury. The bar staff were friendly and the ambience good. However we waited over an hour for our fish and chips to arrive and when it did the batter was so hard we had great difficulty cutting through it and then the fish was so dried out it... More

Very cosy in the winter, but also outside seating at the front for those warmer days, which is actually onto one of the nicer side shopping streets of Canterbury. Good selection of beers and can get busy of an evening so really vibrant atmosphere at times although not rowdy like some city centre pubs can be.
