Friendly pub with good food and service

We called in here for lunch using Taste card, having pre booked. The staff are really friendly and charming. A good menu and huge portions! The pub also has a lovely interior, being I believe one of the oldest buildings in Canterbury. A great place to have lunch and relax in between shopping! In... read more

We went unexpectedly as a group after work for a drink, about 15 of us all together. About 5 of us decided to order food, some of which was just snacks and the service we received was really disappointing. To be honest they made us feel unwelcome and as if we were a nuisance on there business, we wish we... More

The pub is very old and still has that old charm. The doors are maintained as old ones and the food served is amazing although the food menu is short.

Old building and quite atmospheric inside. Staff helpful and attentive but not the smartest I have ever seen. Beer was good. I had a rib eye steak which was tough. All that was on the plate, apart from the steak – grilled tomato, whole garlic halved and grilled and a bowl of chips. For a quick pint in a very... More

We were here for sunday lunch and to be honest, only went here because all other restaurants were fully booked. however, I was happily surprised to find that the food was great! The chips especially were very good - would highly recommend it.

We had lunch here with a small tour group from London...'special' meals and obviously not what was on the menu at the restaurant, so why serve such rubbish! I had the fish and chips and threw up after one mouthful (the fish was uncooked) my husband had the 'famous' sausages and got food poisoning. We informed our tour guide after... More

We've eaten here many times but only after visiting a substandard pub/restaurant do I feel it's time to write a review, now I realise what a gem this is. What you have here is a lovely, quaint old pub which I would certainly recommend to foreign visitors; excellent service and always good quality food. Yes, you may need to book... More

Had a few meals here during a recent stay In Canterbury and loved the place. Food was good and good prices, did take quite a while to get served. It's a nice friendly place with a nice atmosphere in a timbered building which adds to the charm. Would return

We were 6 and 3 of us ordered fish fingers. It was not as traditional as in the town center but it was very delicious. Hamburgers were very big as the types who most hungries want. Desserts were also very tasty. But a bit expensive then other ones in canterburry.
