Cafe du Soleil is situated beside the river Stour in Canterbury occupying a former 18th century wool store and is accessed by its own bridge over the river. The building was restored with a grant from English Heritage and showcases the extensive use of reclaimed building material from the 14C city wall. Our cuisine draws influence from Provence in southern France, and from Italy, to create a modern Mediterranean cuisine. The menu changes with the seasons, and much of our food is cooked in our wood burning oven, fed with locally sourced wood from managed forest.

Good good good service

This is a consistent fine food restaurant based on the river central to Canterbury. Capable of catering for large groups. Recommend the mussels and chicken salad

We regularly go to CdS and have never been disappointed. Good solid unpretentious Italian inspired food in a lovely atmosphere.

The atmosphere is that of a 18th century wool storage building- stone, brick and wooden beams - set a warm tone accentuated by soft lighting and a single candle on the table. The staff was knowledgable and professional throughout our service. Riley was our server: a real pro with a great personality. A good selection wine by the ML, how... More

The purpose of our visit was a birthday treat for my mum to the Dirty Dancing show at the Marlowe so wanted to treat her to a meal beforehand. The Cafe Du Soleil could not have been more perfect. From the minute we walked through the door we were greeted by wonderful attentive staff and the decor and ambience of... More

First time visit with my wife and daughter. Beautiful location by the river and very nice décor inside. Warmly greeted by a delightful member of staff. We had between us, for starters, a mixed sharing platter for two(superb), crispy calamari(soft and succulent on the inside),and for mains, moules frites, home made Italian sausages with parmesan mash and for pudding, sticky... Cafe du Soleil does some interesting things with Mediterranean food. The pulled pork pizza was surprisingly good, the Gloucester Old Spot katsu curry was let down only by the greenery, with the spicy rice an unexpected star of the dish. My scallops and chorizo starter was again let down by the crispy seaweed where samphire would have made it a dish... More

Very enjoyable meal in a lovely riverside setting. The food was lovely. We had a mixed starter and shared a pizza and salad for main. Food served quickly but not rushed. The wine selection is lovely, I would recommend reading their recommendation for the vineyard that is linked to the restaurant I had a Grenache which was lovely. They also... More

As soon as you have walked over the little bridge across the river into the lovely old building with it's tasteful décor your anticipation of the food soar's and it is in no way let down. We went for a "pre-theatre" meal which at £12.95 for two courses up to 6.30 was simply sensational. Lastly the service was "spot -on"... More

Looked attractive with a good menu to accommodate most diners requirements, the atmosphere though lacked "Sun", the waitresses looked as though they didn't want to be there and the music!! Not only loud so conversation was difficult but a poor choice for a restaurant with the name “Soleil”. The service was speedy, possibly because they were not that busy and... More
