Cafe du Soleil is situated beside the river Stour in Canterbury occupying a former 18th century wool store and is accessed by its own bridge over the river. The building was restored with a grant from English Heritage and showcases the extensive use of reclaimed building material from the 14C city wall. Our cuisine draws influence from Provence in southern France, and from Italy, to create a modern Mediterranean cuisine. The menu changes with the seasons, and much of our food is cooked in our wood burning oven, fed with locally sourced wood from managed forest.

We had lunch in this place during our visit to Canterbury. This was a casual visit, and we decided to come into this restaurant as the menu looked appetizing. The real deal was quite different. We chose the two course meal that appeared in the menu. Apparently you could choose two main courses and dessert among three options each. The... More

We enjoyed a somewhat different meal - and appreciated the different from our usual choices of menu in this quaint and attractive venue which is right on the banks of the River Stour, approached over its own personal bridge yet which is still very close to the city centre and convenient for pre or apres theatre dining. Very tasty food,... More

We went with 2 very discerning old friends and were not disappointed. The service was very good and the food excellent. Only one slight hiccough was the ravioli, which wasn't very warm but everything else was superb. Lovely atmosphere too!

I have been to Cafe du Soleil for a number of purposes - works Christmas 'do's', couples dinner, dinner with friends and girls night out and it never fails to please. The food is always great, tasty, well cooked and presented. Good variety of menu choices too. Stylish restaurant area, great upstairs room for private parties of up to 50... More

Smallish but well thought out menu with enough variety to suit most tastes! First course a Bouillabaisse that was well cooked as well as flavoured. The main was a superb but HUGE bowl of well cooked and delightfully flavoured mussels. Staff were polite efficient and very interested! There is frankly nothing to criticise! Toilet clean, my partner was delighted with... More

Good food and well priced. What more could you ask for! This restaurant is placed in a beautiful setting on the river, which adds an extra special element. I had a fiorentina pizza for lunch, which was great and my sister very much enjoyed the duck. My friend would also recommend the grilled chicken sandwich. The portions are very generous... More

We went here for our anniversary dinner and it was lovely. We booked months in advance (as I know Canterbury on a Saturday evening!) and they called us to reconfirm that day. The wait staff could be better, they were not as friendly as I expect from such an expensive restaurant. However, the starter and main were really good, I... More

My partner and I visited Cafe du Soleil for an anniversary dinner. Stupidly we hadn't booked, not knowing how popular it would be, however the excellent staff found us a table. I ordered the "Four ducks" for starter and this was really good, and my partner ordered the scallops with chorizo which was also lovely. For main, I had the... More
