Perfect find in the rian on leaving the Odyssey

Firstly, I don't recognise the "lack of warmth" expressed by other reviewers. Secondly, the food really is excellent, if maybe not heavily spiced enough for my palette. Thirdly, the menu is really interesting. This is truly a blend of East meet West - Indian spicing with French techniques and... read more

Firstly, I don't recognise the "lack of warmth" expressed by other reviewers. Secondly, the food really is excellent, if maybe not heavily spiced enough for my palette. Thirdly, the menu is really interesting. This is truly a blend of East meet West - Indian spicing with French techniques and presentation. It is expensive. But I genuinely did not know what... More

Leaving home last for the evening, we hadn't booked anywhere to eat. So we were running through all the places in St. Albans. These were all dismissed, either because they were part of a chain or we'd had previous bad experiences. The remaining list was none too long! Finally, we settled on Chez Mumtaj. I hadn't been before but my... More

I felt treated like a queen at Chez Mumtaj. The service was amazing. We had a quiet dinner, felt appropriately and attentively served but not over the top. We were able to discuss everything in peace and quiet and the food was fabulous. I could not fault it. The interior is beautifully decorated.

Wow! We've now been to Chez Mumtaj twice and on both occasions we had delicious meals. We loved the French/Indian fusion style. The staff are friendly but it's not easy to get a table at this popular eatery so book in advance. Well worth a visit!

Delicious food, great service. The only exception was the chocolate fondant which was more like a cake and not very chocolatey! Other wise a fantastic experience.

A group of us from the Uni of Hertfordshire were celebrating the end of the semester and our Line Manager had recommended Chez Mumtaj. Alas, I'm not a fan of the 'fusion' food the restaurant served. Far too often it seemed to mean a massive dinner plate in which nestled a few artfully arranged twigs with blobs of sauce dribbling... More

So what to do on a warm and balmy Saturday eve when the enticing smell of BBQ is blanketing most of the country? Well instead of dining alfresco we opted to venture further north to a slightly subterranean heavily wood panelled restaurant in St Albans. I normally opt to review venues more into town but Chez Mumtaz - which has... More

After a fair few years living in St Albans I have finally visited here: twice within a few weeks, in fact. First visit was with about eight other (rowdy) gents and I was so impressed with the food + service that I treated my wife last week for our wedding anniversary. She loved it - she was lapping it up.... More

This was our second meal at CM-we went with family around Christmas last year. As it was my birthday we wanted somewhere a bit special, but not ridiculously priced so booked here for a Saturday night. We enjoyed a pleasant drink in the bar before being seated in the relaxing restaurant. The food and service was out of this world.... More

My husband and I discovered this gem recently, We sat down to dinner and every mouthful we ate we were blown away. The food was so good we went back the next day to give the chef a box of chocolates to say thank you. We have since took our kids and family members there to enjoy the experience. Love... More
