If you want a cold, deserted restaurant where you don't get noticed when you arrive... it took 5 mins for the waiter to even see us - we seated ourselves on arrival as there was no one in sight to seat us. When the waiter came out of the kitchen, he went to 3 other tables before he even saw... More

We have eaten Japanese meals over 100 times and I used to cook it too. This meal was poor for us mainly due to 50 min wait (2 guests there when we came).

After living in St Albans for a few years and walking past this restaurant on many occasions, we decided it was about time we gave it a go and boy, we were not disappointed. We opted for a a starter and main and all dishes were cooked to perfection. The portions weren't massive but just right and the quality was... More

This place is often quiet as people no doubt say on here but friendly service and never totally empty. Don't go expecting sushi, this is all cooked Japanese food served with rice, done extremely well. Lovely dinner.

It is many years since I visited this restaurant but I recently returned to find it virtually unchanged - and was even recognised by the lady who runs front of house. As ever the food is equisite and served imaginatively. If you are a novice to Japanese cuisine (and I don't mean Yo-Sushi!) I really recommend the set meals as... More

My husband and I are big Japanophiles, having spent two very happy weeks there on our honeymoon. On our return we have been looking high and low for authentic Japanese food (and anywhere selling Katsu curry doesn't cut it for me!). When we wandered into Sukiyaki we were so happy to have found just what we were looking for. We... More

As others have written on this page; this is an unusual restaurant. On a Saturday night, we were the only customers in a dining room that could probably cater for 50. The décor is dated and you wouldn’t be at all surprised if Marty McFly jumped out and said ‘Doc, you’ve gotta come back with me to the future’ and... More

I like this place. The food is Authentic Japanese. I've only seen a max of eight people eating here. The food is tasty. The staff are fantastic and extremely helpful. The kindness you find here is hard to find elsewhere. It's a good a treat for anyone that loves Japanese food. Keep in mind it's a little bit spooky. They... More

My wife and i having been visiting Sukiyaki for well over ten years. It had remained the same consistent good value with excellent genuine Japanese food. That may sound boring but when one has perfected what one does there is no need to change. In an ever changing world it is great to see that not everyone changes for changes... More

If you want to try real Japanese food where it is all about quality then give it a try. The owner is charming but it is not a chain restaurant with old interior which puts some people off which is a shame.
