Very nice Sunday roast. Homemade food and friendly, attentive service. Food was well cooked and well received, both the meat and vegetarian roasts and the homemade brownies for pudding. Prices pretty reasonable. Pub itself is looking a bit tired inside, but that didn't really detract from the experience. Would definitely return.

We just returned from Sunday lunch here was shockingly bad!!! The veg was bland (no herbs) the gravy was like water and the meat was fatty! After reading that this was the "Best roast in St Albans" what a joke it reminded me of a school dinner!!! Never again!!!!

We stopped in St Albans needing some lunch, and found this place. All food is homemade, including warm scotch eggs and the picallily! Good food & friendly.

Had sunday lunch in this, in dire need of a makeover, pub recently and can only say that the meat was overcooked and the vegetables undercooked, the potatoes were good as was the cauliflower cheese, the prices were good but personally I would rather pay a bit more for better quality food and surroundings. Have to say that the staff... More

Unfortunately I'm not a local-we live a 35 minute drive away -so I have never been able to indulge myself fully amongst the wide choice of real ales. The few I have sampled have been in really good condition. The White Lion is situated in a very pleasant part of old St. Albans & there are a number of decent... More

Table for three booked ahead but the eating area was cold. After requesting heat to be turned on, it was suggested we move to the snug where there was a fire lighting. I enjoyed beef shank in delicious sauce. My friends had fish which was rather overcooked for their liking. Overall quite a pleasant experience with cheerful and helpful service.

This place is 5 mins walk away and is always busy so we thought we'd try it out. The result for us was the "roastinator" which is 2 meats, great for a hungry husband. Clearly home cooked and delicious gravy, you must give this lovely pub a try.

We absolutely love The White Lion. We have eaten here many times and also been for drinks. The food is amazing and we would rate this as the best pub in St Albans for food and atmosphere. We have even recommended friends from out of town to go here and always bring family and friends when they come to visit.... More

My family and myself had tea here on a Saturday night, given we had a little bit of a wait, which is to be expected, but we loved it. We were a group of 6 people and they accommodated this in reasonable time. We all loved the food, it was really very nice and dint take long to arrive. Would... More

We have to say that we had one of the greatest experiences at this local pub/restaurant! The owners/staff were aware of our every need, and took every personal care of us and we were in need for nothing else. The staff were very informative about the local area and answered all of our questions about this historical and very busy... More
