Sad to say that this pub has closed down!! Amazing location close to the entrance to the park on the St Michaels side. Went for their burgers a week before they closed down and should have seen the writing on the wall when the had no cider and hardly any stock of wine. The burgers were very good, the meat... More

Myself, along with my family pulled up in the car park hoping to have a meal at 11:30 on a Sunday morning. I was approached by a man who asked 'I take it you're coming to the pub?', I confirmed that I was and was about to find out what time they opened. The man replied 'Well we're fully booked... More

My fiancé & I recently moved to St Albans. We were both looking forward to having a Subday roast together, weekend time is precious & so we thought this pub would be a nice place to go. We couldn't have been more wrong, upon arrival it looks disorganised. We were told we could eat outsid as we didn't book a... More

The food itself was very tasty (the fish sharing platter, steak burger and chicken burger), yet we were baffled by the fact that our starter arrived with our mains! It also seems bizarre that they don't give you any bread with the fish platter, considering it includes pate and chutney! The staff weren't particularly welcoming (especially the first waitress who... More

Saturday lunch - decided on steak & mushroom pie of the day at £13. Puff pastry cap was soggy, no crispyness at all. The six small chunks of steak were chewy, two of them inedible. Tiny bit of mushroom. The gravy was ok, and the mash, but mushy peas was a strange choice of veg. Not impressed

Decent, if overpriced, food. However - a main meal platter of paté and chutney was served without any bread. When we asked for some we were simply told that was how it came - despite there being an additional (and well hidden) charge for service, the waitress who served out food told us that we would have to get our... Lovely supper in a quiet, but welcoming pub. Beautifully cooked burger of tender meat plus fabulously cooked fish and chips. Short, but high quality menu with fabulous staff - really helpful and concerned to make sure our dietary needs were met with no fuss. A great find.

Another great Sunday roast at the blue anchor. It's a great pub in a lovely part of st albans, with all your classic pub food options cooked really well. I love the fish and chip, the burger or the roast on Sunday, which is great value. My husband says the pies are also great and often he pops in during... More
