Lovely food and relaxing ambience

This is a great place for an interesting meal out - not just the usual modern dining fare. Each dish has something foraged or homegrown in it and as we are keen growers ourselves, we really value the 'local' emphasis of the team running the Foragers. The Forgagers did the catering for a 50th birthday celebration we held in St Albans Town Hall in July 2015. We thought they did a super job. The food was lovely and the menu just a little bit different from the norm making it an extra element of interest. George was enthusiastic and efficient through the planning phase and helped... Really nice pub in the old part of St Albans. The idea for this place is great, and they've so nearly got it right. Unfortunately, they are let down by inexperience regarding service - our bottle of wine was plonked down and poured into glasses before anyone could taste it for example and they really didn't have a clue what... Ate last night for the first time and was blown away. I arrived hot and fed up after a pretty crummy day and the Foragers did EVERYTHING to make me go to bed happy and full. The bartender was informed and helpful - my indecisive husband was offered four samples before settling on his pint. I, exhausted, just wanted something... More

A beautiful evening in the garden under the hops and the grapes. Nice waitress, pleasant and knowledgeable of a complex menu using mostly foraged ingredients or locally raised meats. Great selection of beers and lagers, 12 pumps including a home brewed bitter.

Went with friends who have foraged with this pub. Very small menu. I had salmon to start not bad, maybe some good bread would have been nice. presentation awful. Followed by a very dull veg crumble. My husband had a burger as he could not find anything else on menu.said chips were soggy.he said it was only ok. The so... More

The Good:Staff - okay for a pub...did the normal customer service, nothing much to see here, moving on. The decor, well apart form the fly issue...there were quite a number, but it was warm, so bit of fly spray needed perhaps? So...decor - lovely calm green colour, nice layout inside and small but welcoming style of pub. The drinks -... More

We usually take a "customer-is-always-right" approach to reviews, as we do genuinely value all feedback on our food. But you didn't see our food. You refer to the bread you were served as both a "platter" and a "starter", when in fact it was neither. It was bread. If we had known that you were planning to judge our entire... More

Fantastic and attentive service, really good food, and a great selection of beers. Three of us enjoyed a relaxed evening. The pidgeon starter was excellent and the Verulam burger was great too. The menu was quite small but everything we tried was very good.

Ate here with work colleagues after recommendation. The menu was refreshingly different from anything else I've seen in the area and when the food came it was very good. They also have a good selection of beers which you can't get everywhere. Overall a great experience with great service.
