Anniversary dinner - awesome

I walked to the Verulam Arms on a lovely summer day to make a dinner reservation for my wife and I on our wedding anniversary. It was a busy afternoon for them, so while I waited for the very pleasant staff to have a moment to take my booking, I had a half of shandy made with their elderflower... read more

Since their head chef moved on, the prices for the dishes remain high for what is actually served. I've been to many so called foraging restaurants as far down as cornwall, this though was disappointing. Service without a smile, dishes unexplained, no upswell or story told. Disappointing... Ales are however very good. Bring back the wood fired oven out the... More

The Foragers uses foraged food in each dish, and is proud of the provenance of their food. The menu is tempting. and the service relaxed and friendly. Unfortunately, we found the food did not live up to it's promise. The steak was nothing special, and the risotto only average. The pork belly was the best of the main courses, and... More

Beautiful rustic food, a fantastic choice of beers and friendly staff help make The Foragers a great place to spend an afternoon overindulging Ray Mears style. We also opted to do the foraging tour, quite a tiring exercise after all said indulgence but a really interesting and fun one none the less. Even if we didn't find any mushrooms ...

I recently arranged a party of 10 people to attend the Foragers for a 30th. I preplanned the evening with George the manager who was able to cater for all our requirements. His team went to every effort to ensure that the party had a great time. One of our clan was a celiac however this was not an issue... More

Staff were great, catered for every need, prices are fair and food was excellent. We wanted a place that was personal, friendly, a bit different and above all had good food. George and his team fitted the bill exactly. The unusual and varied beer/spirits selection is great especially if your a gin lover like me. If your looking for a... More

This was the second time I have eaten at The Verulam Arms and it really is worth reviewing as I was so pleased with the experience my friends and I had. We were a group of 5 females and decided to sit outside with a few afternoon drinks to start. We then asked for a large foragers board to share... More

This is a great place for an interesting meal out - not just the usual modern dining fare. Each dish has something foraged or homegrown in it and as we are keen growers ourselves, we really value the 'local' emphasis of the team running the Foragers. We've visited twice now - coming over from Watford - originally on the recommendation... More

The Forgagers did the catering for a 50th birthday celebration we held in St Albans Town Hall in July 2015. We thought they did a super job. The food was lovely and the menu just a little bit different from the norm making it an extra element of interest. George was enthusiastic and efficient through the planning phase and helped... Really nice pub in the old part of St Albans. The idea for this place is great, and they've so nearly got it right. Unfortunately, they are let down by inexperience regarding service - our bottle of wine was plonked down and poured into glasses before anyone could taste it for example and they really didn't have a clue what...
