Dating back to the 16th Century, The Cock Inn remains one of the most popular pubs in St Albans. We are known for our great food, real ales and extensive wine list. In winter we have a roaring log fire whilst in summer we have a fantastic heated garden offering a little oasis of calm in the centre of St Albans.

Pleasant evening

We went to The Cock on a Monday night and had their two courses for £12 offer. The food was on the whole, very good, although the chicken main was slightly bland. The atmosphere was great, not too busy but not dead and the service was excellent.

On the whole, the food was OK. Service was pleasant and friendly. However, my wife and I ordered a starter of pan fried foie gras. Both dishes were burnt. I was not too bothered and so hungry I just ate it. My wife found it really unpleasant and left most of it. (No questions asked by the waitress or the... More

Excellent service, busy and buzzing atmosphere but still has stylish gastro pub feel. Good location in central St. Albans. We were a group of 25 and I can't critise the evening although we were sat on two seperate tables which was a shame. Would return.

Went with a fairly large group of friends and when we booked we were asked to pre-order. This was fine, but in the time between ordering and visiting (only a few days) the menu changed and we hadn't been told. This meant that chicken pie and mash became steak pie with chips. It wasn't a huge problem, but generally not... More

I went to the restaurant with my husband on my birthday and we really enjoyed our meals. We had a black pudding starter which was lovely. The honey complimented the dish and it was heaven on a plate. We then had rib eye steak with chunky chips, salad and a sauce and it was the best steak we have ever... More

I had to order for 7 guys at about 6:30pm straight after work. I wanted to keep it simple, so we could concentrate on the drinking (someone recommended the steak sandwich)! They were *all* perfect, soft medium rare with *no* fat or gristle (If I had to guess the cut it would be rib-eye) with an amazing secret "caramelised red... More

I really like this place, the food's good (very good value) and the beer is almost always perfect. They have a good selection of ales and wines and when the fire is roaring in the winter, there are few places I'd rather be. Recommended.
