Dating back to the 16th Century, The Cock Inn remains one of the most popular pubs in St Albans. We are known for our great food, real ales and extensive wine list. In winter we have a roaring log fire whilst in summer we have a fantastic heated garden offering a little oasis of calm in the centre of St Albans.

Celebration Meal

Had a lovely meal here with family in Febuary. The pub try to use local produce and food that is in season. It was a bit worrying when we arrived as all the tables were full and we had booked an 8.15 slot, however, they cleared a bar area table for us to wait on while they cleared the restaurant... read more

Our B&B host at Fleuchary House in St. Albans recommended this nearby pub, and we are so grateful we took her recommendation! For lunch I ordered the soup of the day--a delicious, highly fresh Spring Vegetable soup served with an equally fresh baguette. My chicken sandwich and husband's meal were both *perfect* and the service was flawless. Dinner was just... More

We went for a quick lunch, the place was quiet as it was during the week I assume. I ordered the duck with sweet potatoes and greens. My friend ordered a steak.....I have to say the duck was to die for and it was so unexpected! Seriously delicious and so glad I chose the duck, of course I expect it... More

We have eaten here several times before and found it to be good for the price. However, on this occasion the food was below par. Tasteless terrine, greasy fish, reheated chips made some time earlier. I suspect things have been allowed to slacken in the kitchen of late, which is a disappointment.

Cozy and friendly pub offers a contemporary twist on traditional pub food. The only glitch was the wireless POS machine which wasn't working so we had to run around the corner for cash to pay.

My wife and I had a first class two course lunch from the fixed price menu last Saturday in the pub restaurant. Service was friendly, quick and with attention to detail. All attractively presented with ample portions. Nine out of ten Cock Inn !!!!!!!! Rhea and Stan

We had the venison which was to die for. Dessert was just as special as the main. High end food standards. Great atmosphere and great value for money. We will definitely be back!

Tried the lunch menu and though reasonably priced I found the meal to be very average. The terrine starter lacked flavour and seasoning and was very style over substance. Main course was acceptable but deep fried fish with soggy batter is not on. Food aside the premises are clean and service very good

Went here for a Sunday roast for Mother's day. I'm vegetarian and the online menu said a butternut squash wellington as a roast option. Arrived to be told that the vege options were in fact risotto with boring old cheese (really?!) or a plate of vegetables! I was so annoyed as having just moved to the area as this pub... More
