I had lunch with my dad. He had lasagna and I had fish and chips with mushy peas. My fish and chips arrived with a bowl of mushy peas that had clearly already been half-eaten by someone else: you could see where they had taken-out scoops and the pot was half empty. The waitress replaced it when I complained, but... More

My wife and I, thought it would be nice to meet some friends in The Old Barge, for lunch, before going on to the Theatre. How wrong were we My wife and I, plus our friends ordered what was described as "Doorstep" sandwiches. My wife ordered Fish Fingers on White, I ordered Tuna & Mayo on Brown. Our friends ordered... I came in for lunch on a quite Monday and had the Elvis burger and my partner had the classic burger. The burgers where tasteless and unseasoned and the chips looked and tasted like McCain frozon thick cuts chips. And the onion rings where also frozon and had very little crunch like the chips which whet both unseasoned. The bacon... More

I had food there today. My wifes burger was acceptable, my sons fish fingers were edible however my fish and chips were appalling. A few chips, a tiny piece of haddock that wasn't great with not very nice batter and a few slices of lettuce and a badly cut red onion. The mushy peas were nuked to death, less than... More

I am really surprised to read your review, our fish and chips is one of our best sellers and I think this is the only complaint we have had about it. Apologies if you were not fully attended to. I have posted a picture of our fish and chips to album. More

Stumbled across this little Gem of a pub today by chance whilst walking along the river, The inviting welcome we got by the lovely landlady was much appreciated as was the ice cold lager! We wasnt planning on staying for lunch but was so relaxed sitting outside in the sun watching the world go by soon enough 2 hours had... More

Lovely weather but sitting outside with building works both to the side and the back of the seating area was noisy. Paella at £10.95 contained 1 ring of squid, 3 tiny limp pale prawns and 2 squares of chicken with a scattering of peas - starter size with a mains price tag! A pint of lager and a lemonade &... More

Over the years we have taken many guests to The Old Barge but the overall quality of the food keeps going down whilst the prices are extortionate. I paid £5.75 today for an awful tasting fruit beer as they have just about run out of everything else. Extremely poor planning knowing that it is going to be weekend and sunny.... More

Been there a couple of times recently including a Sunday when there was a quiz in progress. It was quite lively which is unusual these days for a pub on Sunday evening. Have also eaten there on a Wednesday evening and thought the food was good. Nothing exceptional on the menu but well cooked and well presented. Bad point -... More

Good points: Great location and selection of beers. Bad points: Unimpressive, bland, overpriced food. No real atmosphere on a Friday and Saturday night anymore - where have all the customers gone? Car park recently removed in drive to make money at all costs, and residents parking all round the area so if you're not from the town you might as... More

Hi Chris, Sorry to read your review, it would be helpful to know what food you found bland, tho obviously I am surprised to read this. I do feel our food is reasonably priced within the market place. Thanks for mentioning our great selection of beers, we do work hard to ensure a well kept and interesting range. As to... More
