Traditional and local spot

Food and beer with a warm local atmosphere. It gets pretty busy but that only adds to the traditional, local pub charm. A family friendly spot with delicious food.

Have visited this place several times and always thought it very attractive. I found the food a bit disappointing on the first visit or so, but they definitely seem to have upped their game the last few times we have been. Really nice lunch on Saturday, I had plaice and my husband had toad in the hole (ages since I've... More

Visited here at about 3.00 pm on a cold Thursday afternoon. The place is very attactive by the river. Inside the place was warm and cosy and made you feel at home. The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs. The food was great especially the chunky chips cooked to perfection. We all cleared our plates. My sister... More

The pub was warm first thing in the morning as we arrived just as it was opening. The landlord and landlady were very welcoming and pleasant to talk with. They advised the best course of action for my wife's dietary requirements and the party of seven of us were dealt with quickly and fairly. I ordered the mixed grill which... More

I visited over the Christmas period. The restaurant was quite busy but we were served quickly and the lady was very friendly. I was really impressed with how much choice there was for vegetarians and that normal sausages and bacon could be substituted for veggie alternatives. I had a doorstep sandwich which was exactly that! The sweet potato chips were... More

My partner and I lived in Hertford for 2 years, during which time we frequented this pub regularly, but just for a drink. We often return to Hertford, given it is only an hour's drive from London, as we like the riverside walks along the Lea. On the last occasion, we decided to return to this pub and have a... More

I went to a recent whisky tasting event and it was superb. The landlord was very friendly and knowledgeable. We sampled six whiskies with an interval for a dinner of scotch eggs followed by haggis - I'm no expert but both were excellent. The evening was amazing value & highly recommended - I hope they do another.
