I really like going to a good traditional style pubs as they deserve to still be around. I'd heard a lot about this place, all good, so met a 'foodie' friend of mine there. Bought a few drinks then found our table & sat down. Tried to get the young ladies attention as she passed us several times, then had... More

Had dinner there with some friends. Recommend to book in advance. Service was excellent. Lovely setting and traditional. Food was very good. There was only one special left so need to get your orders in quickly. Overall a great place to eat with a group of friends.

The title says it all: Oliver's Island, London Pride, ESB and another Fullers ale. No space for guest ales at all. Very disappointing. A small glass of diet coke is £2.20. Lovely interior though, with the smell of a real woodsmoke fire wafting around, adding to the authentic atmosphere.

Excellent pub with open fires, good ale and brimming with atmosphere. Well worth a visit. Menu looked good and lots of seating. Think you would need to book a table at busy times

If you imagine the quintessential English out this would be it. Great hospitality, atmosphere, range of beverages and good food. It had been more than 25 years since we were last in this part of the country and time had not tarnished the experience. Still as good as we remember. The only thing the visitor needs to do is to... Stopped here for lunch and got the unexpected: this is NOT your run-of-the-mill pub grub -- quite the contrary! The menu is polished and shows a good bit of thought on management's part. My dining partner had the venison burger, which was lean and moist; I had the pan-fried salmon with celeriac and young beetroot. Both were excellent. Dessert was... More

A busy pub on a Friday evening with standing room only but a great atmosphere. Wide range of real ales served by welcoming and friendly staff. We had booked for dinner and moved into a small dining room. The menu was imaginative, chicken with chorizo in a white bean broth. The wild game terrine was delicious. Perhaps a shade on... More

We stayed here for a couple of nights. The bar is strangely laid out with old school desks really limiting to number of seats in a large space, and it can be difficult to shift the locals out of their regular spots, but the beer is well kept and served. The restaurant was packed of an evening and a little... More
