Lovely bar with good food

This is a lovely old fashioned bar with great atmosphere and a popular restaurant. The food is very nice and the restaurant was full when I visited , which speaks for itself. Staff very accommodating , there wasn't a free table in the restaurant so they set up a table in the bar for instead. Had... read more

Popped in her while waiting for a tour of Winchester College for Sunday roast, and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had. What really stood out was the quality of the veg - good beef and gravy are not so hard to come by (but are excellent here as well), but every vegetable - very often the... More

This is a wonderful place to have a drink or a meal or even stay. I've taken one of the very nice rooms above the pub and eaten there several time. The pub winds round itself a bit and has a nice garden out back. The decor is refined-public-house-memorabilia with tendency to nautical things. You'll have to find it...its tucked... More

A party of 11 booked a table for 8:30 on 16/05/2015 and arrived early, as recommended by the pub. We sat down at 9pm to be told there was no beef, just one pork belly portion. A haddock starter turned out to be pork! Two scallops as a starter seems a tad stingy. The bouillabasse was just not bouillabasse! My main... More

We hadn't been to the Wykeham Arms for some time and remembered why. The food was expensive and of average quality and the beer was cloudy. Pub felt dirty and there was dust all over the place. Worse than that, we saw two ladies politely comment that their champagne/fizzy wine was flat, and you could clearly see that it was... More

My husband and I had pre booked a table here whilst staying for the night and we had a beautiful meal. We throughly enjoyed all our courses. We had steak and halibut as our main meals which were presented beautifully and tasted delicious. A very good desert and excellent cheese course. The Malbec was also a good choice. The staff... As a pub to visit and drink in, you cannot do any better than to come here. The beers are good, the wine list is great too and the atmosphere is perfect. We drink here often. We have also eaten a couple of times over the years, with mixed experiences some good, some not so, but we decided to book... More

We researched this location from the Good Pub Guide 2015. Knowing we were in the Isle of Wight with a cooked breakfast, we synchronised ferries and meal times for an atypically-late lunch. We arrived with good time to spare & were seated 10 mins in advance. All was good. We both ordered roast lamb, since we wanted to skip the... More

Winchester offers lots of places to eat, but I'm glad we decided on the Wykeham Arms. On a sunny day the seating are outside with a view of the river is idyllic. The food was solid 'pub grub', service good, choice of beer excellent. What's not to recommend!?
