Pleasant Pub in Pleasant Location

Called in here with my partner after a visit to Wolvesey Castle, which is just around the corner, on a Saturday afternoon around 16:00. For the time, the pub was not at all busy, and it was not difficult to be served quickly and find a seat. The ale selection was nice, and they served Fullers... read more

With its marvelous location in the centre of ancient Winchester, the amazing collection of genuinely old and fascinating artefacts from yesteryear, its excellent staff and wonderful food, the Wykeham Arms is a superb place to enjoy a drink or a meal. We were a party of 6 and nobody was disappointed. Having dined here several times over the years, it... More

Visited with a group of friends for lunch, busy Saturday, the table that we were shown to first was very cramped and in a noisy area, we asked to be moved and were delighted that we could, larger table in a small room next to the kitchen. Took ages for our order to be taken, the starters arrived after about... More

A timeless real Old English pub oozing quality and charm. The food, beer and wines are all excellent, well-chosen and in the case of the food, locally sourced and very fresh. The pub is full of charm and character, not to mention characters, being tucked away as it is near the cathedral and in the courtilage of Winchester College.

Arrived on a Sunday evening. Easy to get a seat on the restaurant side. I had the roasted chicken. Excellent food and the service was great. It is on a quiet street not too far from the university and the river walk. It is worth seeking out. I was told by a local this is one of the best two... More

This is probably my favourite place to eat in Winchester, and yet again they've lived up to my hopes and expectations. I love the 'old school' of the pub side with its old school desks as tables, and the bleached and scrubbed pine tables elsewhere. Always memorable coming here and looking forward to my next visit already.

Popped in here for a coffee one morning with a friend. Lovely coffee, beautifully served. But the school desks that you sit at and the general decoration and furnishings are too affected for my taste. Also, I was hoping to eat here one evening but there is very little choice for vegetarians and nothing that I would eat/like.
