Fabulous food and setting

We have eaten here on several occasions and never fail to be delighted with the food and the service. The menu is always very varied whether you are going for the cheaper menu or the full choice. I am always amazed at the different flavours that the chef puts together with such success. We live... read more

I'm a massive fan of the Chesil. The restaurant itself has a lot of character as one of Winchester's oldest buildings (watch your head coming in through the door, its pretty low!), but best of all, the food is just outstanding. I've never had such a well served 'beef with all the trimmings', with such interesting flavours on everything and... More

The staff here were most helpful. I was celebrating my birthday and they were very attentive to me and my friends. The food did take a little while but it was a busy Saturday night so that’s to be expected. The food was really nice as always. Will definitely be coming back

Recently held a private dinner for a family wake at this restaturant and cannot say enough about the service. We were assigned a private room which allowed us private space. Both the service and food was perfect - simply perfect and can honestly say the meal complimented the day. My thanks to Mark and the team for their attention and... More

Good food on the whole- full of flavour! But definitely expensive for what you get! Huge problem with the white chocolate cheesecake though- great flavour but don't restaurants know that the best thing about a slice of a pudding is to chop off the point bit?! My cheesecake was sliced in a pathetic and disappointing thin rectangular sliver that was... More

Our friends had built this place up before taking us there and we were not disappointed. Though the menu is not huge, there was sufficient selection that we were all struggling to choose. No-one was disappointed. Highlights were a cauliflower-based vegetarian dish, mackerel (in my experience it's either stunning or a boney disaster) which was beautifully cooked, and the creme... Nice historical and romantic building. Great service. Delicious food. All the dishes ate built on the ingredients of British trasitional kitchen and adjusted to contemporary concept of cusine. The dishes are sofisticats, but not over complicated.

Where to begin? My partner booked this for my birthday but hadn't been himself before. We were greeted with a beautiful facade and entered to see a roaring fire and a relaxed friendly atmosphere. We were shown upstairs and our coats were courteously taken (surprisingly rare for coats to be taken and preferable to having your coats loitering around you)... More

It's a while since we'd been to Chesil Rectory but were given some gift vouchers as a gift and went for lunch. The building is, of course, wonderful and the waiting staff were friendly but everything else was very average. We had the set lunch which wasn't inspired. Service was very slow though all the starters were obviously pre-prepared. We... More

We were a party of 7 celebrating a birthday and booked the Chesil Rectory on the recommendation from a colleague. The restaurant is set in a lovely building. We were met and greeted by Jess, the manageress. She was excellent, had an ability to know when to joke and when to be serious. The service throughout our meal was faultless.... More
