We tried to book this restaurant for Saturday evening but couldn't get in but then managed to get in for the Sunday evening and we were so glad we did. We were only in Winchester for the weekend. The Saturday eve the town was buzzing but really dead on the Sunday eve but this beautiful ancient building was full and... More

We were delighted with our visit to the Chesil Rectory. The building is full of character and the open fire made it very inviting. The set lunch was delicious and the service excellent. Full marks.

Couldn't find our reservation, average service and OK food. Many better places in the city. We had expected so much and were really disappointed with the food and the attitude.

There was nothing wrong really; just a bit unexciting and bland as an experience... The location and building leads itself to something special but really just doesn't deliver; the food is good if lacking in imagination although in fairness this was Sunday lunch... The service was good and plenty of staff available. In terms of review; nothing really to say... More

The Chesil is a very romantic and personal place to go. Mostly couples and some groups. This 14th century building has two floors full of character. The staff were very welcoming and the manager chose to crouch down when speaking to you and this made it seem much more friendly. The food was excellently prepared and delivered with prefect portion... More

The Chesil is a listed building with the restrictions that come with that. It has low ceilings, uneven floors, is a bit draughty at times and the lighting can be difficult. It has, however, bags of character and atmosphere. I had been told the food was excellent and I was not disappointed. We had booked for the Sunday lunch which was as... More

We ate here in late December. The food is true fine dining and the experience is to my match. Atmosphere is quiet but not funeral-like. Service is good. The menu is quite limited, maybe five options for entre, main etc. Most options are quite serious haunte-cuisine so you have to be in that frAme of mind.

550 year old building is the setting with upscale dishes that are nicely prepared. Service is ordinary but one of the better options in Winchester for "fine dining".

I first visited the Chesil Rectory in July and gave it a solid five stars. I was a little worried that my trip this time would not live up to the expectations I had built up in my head but I am very pleased to say that I was not disappointed at all! The service was friendly and quick. The... More
