Not everyone wants a gastropub full of pretensions and high prices. We really enjoyed our lunch at the Crown and Anchor. The interior was no more and no less than you would expect in a proper pub. There was a great choice of very reasonably priced food. Fish is their speciality and it really was good. Portions of fresh vegetables... More

Very friendly staff and lovely food. Took the time to explain the different options to us and the chef brought my cutlery out when I forgot to get it myself (I come from up north - we don't use cutlery for sandwiches!). Nice beer garden out back - very compact but gets you away from the noise of the street.

Well, what can I say this time?!?! The landlord and landlady, went above and beyond to make our day so special! From the moment we arrived til the minute I fell out the door, nothing was too much trouble. Dave, (landlord and chef extraordinaire) co-ordinated the buffet. I gave him free reign to provide whatever he saw fit, and boy... More

I had a burger here, which was brought out very quickly and unfortunately was grey and uninspiring. It was accompanied by a mustard garnished salad, which did the job. The chips were also fine. To be honest for everyday fare there wasn't anything much wrong with it, but nor was there much to shout about either, and I had much... More

Family lunch for four. Asked if they would cater for a vegan - out came the chef with numerous options. Settled on an Indian vegetable curry, sounded so good two other family members opted for it. The meal was wonderful, beautiful flavours, vegetables cooked to perfection. Mum was delighted with her Sea Bass. Highly recommend and will definitely eat there... More

Don't be put off by the rough and ready style of this pub. We turned up expecting something quite different and were met by a pretty basic decor, wide screen TVs and Black Sabbath blaring out. However, once seated the staff were friendly (turned the music down) and offered advice on the huge variety of fish dishes available; we even... More

Ate in here today for the second time and we were very impressed. I had the gluten free fish and chips which were cooked separately and served with the appropriate gf vinegar and ketchup bottles. Everyone else had the regular fish and were all very impressed with their crispy, non greasy beer batter. The chef even came out and shared... More

My partner and I dropped in for lunch approx 2 weeks ago. We had Lobster salad , Seared Swordfish and a pint each. the fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. the price when converting back was approx 30% cheaper than NZ. The landlord and staff were very professional and helpful. Next time we are back in the UK we... More

Had a wonderful lunch here yesterday. Very extensive menu, no way could anyone not find something they didn't like. Friendly staff greeted us. Sat in the garden in the sun with a couple of drinks after ordering food. Small garden but nice enough. My hubby is quite fussy when it comes to his ales and he was very happy with... More
