Absolutely appalling

We arrived and were ignored at the bar for a long time by a very grumpy and scruffy individual. No welcome, please or thank you. The food cannot be fresh as no-one can cook as quick as that, and when served was so tasteless that we didn't have more than a mouthful. The decor is shoddy at best... read more

We wanted the British pub experience and got it. Fish and Chips and local beer. Everything was delicious and big portions and friendly.

Was in Winchester Christmas shopping and decided to have lunch. We went by this pub and eventually ordered scampi and chips in a basket, there was only 1 person serving behind the bar. When we sat down the shelves and tables were filthy and regretted ordering any food as the kitchens must be the same!!! When the scampi and chips... More

If you are after no frills pub grub (scampi & chips, fish & chips, ham, egg and chips etc) at a reasonable price then this is a good option.

We were looking for a place to go online and where our ageing labrador would be welcome too. And we found this pub by king Alfred' s statue. Friendly staff, great pub atmosphere. Would have been a 5 if the kitchen was not closed by 6pm. We will be back !!

not much to look at but lunch was great and service was excellent, one of our party wanted white bread tuna sandwich and was told they had run out of white bread, but then the barman went out to buy more and make sure my friend had what she wanted. Another in group wanted tuna without mayo or butter this... More

Dave & Nic have left. Kevin is trying to manage but cannot. Menu choice very poor. My food was dreadful, Ordered liver and bacon. No bacon on the plate, tiny piece of liver, vegetables looked like they have been cooked hours ago, dry, wrinkled and soft. The pub smelt like something had died there. Charged £24 for rubbish liver and... More

Very pleasant and very reasonably priced meal here to day. Good food, good service, and good to meet Misty, the very friendly pub dog!
