Busy pub with great atmosphere

Very helpful staff & warm friendly atmosphere. Menu could be a tad more adventurous! Great setting only a short walk from the high street & Cathedral

Visited winchester on 19th may. Luckily we came across the old vine and decided to have lunch here. What a brilliant choice. Service was fantastic. Waiter and waitresses were all on the ball. We had lamb cutlets for me, absolutely fantastic. My wife had the ham and eggs. Top class. What a great find, it made our visit worth while.... More

We decided on our dinner at The Old Vine after viewing the menu outside and realizing that we'd have to narrow down our choices, because there was so much on offer. Upon our arrival, we were immediately seated, and attended to assiduously from the start. My husband chose the pork pie, and I settled on lamb cutlets, and both meals... More

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments. It's great to hear the server handled the mistake with your order so well - these things do happen from time to time, and I'm glad it didn't spoil your visit. We hope to welcome you again soon. More

Popped in here for lunch. The ham egg and chips was very good and the fish finger sandwich was also large and tasty. Portions are a good size and the food came quickly. The only downside is it is a little pricey. Beer/cider was good.

We arrived for a meal on a Saturday evening for 4 people. This had been booked a couple of weeks in advance luckily with email confirmation as when we arrived they did not have our booking. The lady running front of house though was very sweet and offered us a drink while we were waiting and luckily a table became... More

Hello, thank you for your review. We're glad it all worked out in the end. Sorry to hear the booking went astray - highly unusual as we operate a very well-oiled booking system, but sometimes bookings do end up on the wrong day. Anyway, all's well that ends well, and we hope to see you again soon. More

Quick lunch but highlight was beer - local Micro brewery ale: golden and delicious. Staff knowledgeable and friendly

We booked the old vine for lunch having had a meal in the bar previously. We shared crispy squid for a starter which was delightful with a lovely dipping sauce, then for a my main I had a huge bowl of muscles that were so big it were as if they were on steroids!! The were served with a white... More

This lovely pub/restaurant is in the middle of Winchester and has a separate restaurant and bar, although you can eat in the bar, which I did. I would advise booking a table in the restaurant as it was very busy on the night I visited which was a Friday evening. The staff were very pleasant and helpful and the menu... More

I arrived to eat on a fairly busy Saturday night. I hadn't booked, but they were able to find me a table. My starter of battered and fried baby squid arrived very quickly, worryingly so. This was borne out on tasting. It was rubbery and a couple of pieces almost inedible. I suspect this had been partially cooked earlier and... More

Hello, and thanks for your review. I'm sorry to hear your visit was only just satisfactory. The squid is prepared on site, breadcrumbed, then frozen until it's needed for service. It's then fried, from frozen, in hot oil (which only takes 2 minutes, so there's no need to pre-cook) before being served. I'm sorry the squid was rubbery, this suggests... More

This was the first time we'd visited this restaurant, and we emerged very glad we'd chosen it for our evening meal. A party of three vegetarian adults found enough on the menu to cater for our tastes. The key characteristic was one of freshly prepared food that had bags of taste to it. Excellent quality and at a very fair... More
