We went there for an after-wedding lunch. I ordered a burger but for some reason after 5 mins waitress came back to inform me that the burgers are gone (bit strange if they've burgers in their lunch menu). However fish ordered was just delicious.. Veg crispy and fresh, lovely chips and really really tasty blue cheese to dip my chips... More

Dear guest, thanks for your review. I apologise for the lack of burgers on the day of your visit. We order them to be delivered fresh, in small batches, as we prefer the butcher to make them without preservatives. Therefore they have a shorter shelf life and, consequently, we don’t carry so much stock of this item. Regrettably this means... More

My sister and I took the train from London to spend the day in Winchester and I'm so glad that we did. This lovely old city is a must-visit when you come to England and very easy to get to. There is so much to do here that I would love to come back to spend a night or two... More

Thank you! I'm so pleased you enjoyed your visit. And I'm delighted to see you found the pork pie to your liking - it's a new dish on the menu, from a local supplier, hand-made with free-range organic Hampshire pork, and I'm evangelical about it - I quite agree with your assessment, it's really, really delicious! We hope you will... More

Myself and four guest enjoyed yet another excellent meal here last night. Whenever anyone asks me where they should eat in Winchester I always send them to The Old Vine. The reason for this is not just because the food is tasty and well presented, it is also consistently good. I also like that they do not skimp on portion... More

Having had what I remember to be an average meal about a year ago (although I got so hammered, I can't really remember!), we thought we'd give this place another go. The food is best described as poor. It was edible stodge, but that's about all that can be said for it, and it certainly does not give the impression... More

Sorry you didn't enjoy the food - apologies, clearly not to your liking - but at least the beer went down well. More

The Old Vine is not to be missed if you visit Winchester. Delicious food very well presented and tasted as good as it looked. Our servers Ingrid and Christian could not have been nicer, made sure we (10 of us) had everything we wanted and kept us well watered etc. which all added to our great day out. The Old... More

This was our first visit and as it was mother's day the restaurant was fully booked, so we ate in the bar which has the same menu. The staff were friendly and helpful and even made a point of saying goodbye and thank you as we left. Wow! We wanted something light, so all chose salads with something - my... More

Thank you! We're pleased you enjoyed your visit. We try to have something for everyone on the menu, from light bites, snacks and salads to more substantial fare. Mother's Day this year was very busy, and we were fully booked in the restaurant, but it appears you enjoyed your time in the bar. Perhaps next time you might give the... More

We had an excellent dinner at this cosy and attractive pub that is only 5 minutes walk from Winchester Cathedral. The staff were friendly and attentive. There was a good "gastro-pub" style menu and the food was freshly prepared and well cooked. There was a reasonably priced wine list and some great beers available. With its open fire and comfortable chairs... More

Been here a few times and always lovely food and service. All the waiters/waitresses are friendly and the menu has a wide variety of dishes to choose from which all sound lovely. I can definitely recommend the steak! I think they try to source most of the food locally which is great. I'd recommend booking as it's often very busy... More

Thank you! We're glad you enjoyed your visit. We do try to source local food where possible - this month we have a lovely pork pie from Jake's Artisan Foods in Alton. Just the best pork pie I've tried - you have to give it a go! More

Great from the moment we walked in. It was faultless great atmosphere and really busy on a Saturday night. There is a bar area outside of the "curtained off" restaurant area. We met friends here for a drink first before eating. The menu was extensive and was certainly spoilt for choice. It was hard to make a decision what to... More

My husband and I spent one lovely day and night in Winchester in October, which happend to be graduation weekend for the University of Winchester. Thanks for the feedback, it's great to hear you enjoyed your visit. At weekends in particular we are often very busy, and tables fill up fast. For the information of prospective guests who may be reading this review: once all the restaurant tables have been reserved there are often early sittings available from 6.30pm/7pm until later in the evening, which...
