We had a great little window table overlooking the street. It took a while to get our order taken since it was very busy. The food tasted great however not very hot. Meals were reasonably priced. The pub/resturant was crowded but nice.

Stopped in for a light lunch during Christmas shopping! Found it quite disappointing and plain! Potato wedges clearly out of a bag and bread was just toast!.... With so many nice places in Winchester reputation is not enough....

We make sure we visit The Old Vine whenever we are in the UK and Winchester. The good range of ales are a particular attraction, the food is consistently good without being particularly imaginative, and the service is always friendly and efficient. Much better atmosphere and better value than some of the more pretentious establishments in the city.

Food was good but not exceptional. Service was friendly and efficient and the atmosphere was very nice if a little cold at our table, but the food wasn't very exciting or particularly imaginative.

Thank you for your comments. I'm pleased you enjoyed your visit in the main, although it's a shame you didn't find the food to be particularly imaginative. We do try to cater for a wide range of tastes, from simple pub fare (such as home-made steak and ale pie; ham and eggs; and scampi and chips) to more elaborate dishes... More

Right near the Cathedral. We popped in to have a light lunch and were glad we went early as it gets very full up. Service was efficient, food was excellent. We choose the fish finger sandwich with salad and chips. Very reasonable price and salad served with dressing, chips and sandwich were great too. We also had a pot of tea... More

Thank you! It's so nice to hear you enjoyed your visit. The fish finger sandwich is actually our most popular lunchtime dish - we sell hundreds every week! It is delicious, although perhaps I shouldn't have it for lunch as often as I do - I'm having to buy new trousers in a larger size every couple of months... More

The staff are very friendly and the food is good even though it doesn't accommodate customers with allergies such as dairy allergies.

Thank you for your comments. In fact we do have separate menus tailored to customers with gluten and dairy allergies. However it is best to make staff aware of any intolerances when making a booking for our restaurant, so that we are fully prepared for your visit and can make a note on your reservation. Additionally, a breakdown of ingredients... More

... which fortunately we did. Lovely pub/restaurant looking out across to the cathedral. Good range of real ales, including some from Wichester's own Alfred's brewery. We enjoyed an unhurried meal in a lovely atmosphere in the busy restaurant with friendly service and all at a reasonable price.

This is such a good restaurant for either lunch or dinner and I guess we eat there at least once a month whether it's for a special occasion or just popping in for a snack. You can choose to eat light snacks and meals in the informal and cosy bar or splash out and eat sumptuously in the dining room.... More

We had lunch on Advent Sunday following a visit to the Christmas market - it not being our first visit at this time of year, and The Old Vine being in the ideal location, we knew to book well in advance! The pork casserole was very good indeed, and the wife enjoyed her duck salad. We hope to return in... More

Thank you! The pork casserole is a real winner - slow-cooked for several hours in the steam oven so the meat gently braises in cider, root vegetables and lentils. Delicious! We're very pleased you enjoyed your visit. More
