Cosy restaurant

This is a cosy restaurant located in a old building built in 1762. They serve traditional English cuisine of good quality. Try the oak smoked chicken liver pate or the fish pie.

We have visited the Cowherd five times over the past two years, and found it good value , a varied menu and a pleasant atmosphere. On our last visit one of our group handed the waitress a list of food aditives that she was not able to have in her food. The acting manager,Sue, attended to the ladies requirements with... More

It wasn't difficult to book a table on line for any time we wanted on a Saturday night, 30 Jan. We didn't have any menus when we were seated except the steak special. When the waiter appeared we had to ask for the menus. He left us to decide. After taking our time to choose our meals the waiter returned... More

Not my cup of tea.prices are over the top for what you get. Small portions of vegetables. Older people seem to enjoy the pub due to the location and small atmosphere inside. Not for me I'm afraid

The Cowherds is our local pub - we don't go there very often. We decided to treat ourselves to a relaxing lunch together. We had to wait to see whether we could find a table for ourselves or not. We were shown to one which needed clearing from the previous people. We cleared it ourselves after about 10 minutes as... More

You would think that the manager would have read the plethora of reviews on here and done something about the service. I can only assume that the complacency due to this place having no obvious local competition is engrained throughout the staff. 20 minutes to get a drink order delivered. Maybe the complexity was to blame. I mean an orange... More

Arrived at the Cowherds 6.45 Friday 22nd January 2016.When trying to order our starter, Breaded Langoustines & Mussels, told not on menu and hadn't been for some time,'Oops a mistake'.Decided not to have starter as I didn't fancy any of the remaining offerings. So I ordered Rib Eye steak with Garlic/Cheese mushrooms, what came was , what to me, was sirloin... Very disappointed by our visit to the Cowherds on Sunday evening around 17.30 we did not book but as we entered the pub noticed lots of empty tables at the rear of the dining area unfortunately the waitress told us no available tables just seats in the bar area which was ok we ordered at the bar and had a... Visited Cowherds early Tuesday evening 5:30 ish. We had the sharing foccacia with dipping cheese very good but would have served 3-4 people. We followed with sausages and mash and gammon steak. Portions a good size. Didn't have enough room for dessert so didn't try any. Standard pub food nothing to complain about but nothing special in what we chose.... More
