Great welcome at the bar. Lovely clean toilets. fantastic seating/eating areas outside and in. BUT I hated the fact that all cutlery was out, unwrapped standing in tankards on tables in the fresh air for insects to land on, other guests and children to handle and we were very surprised that when we asked for clean cutlery, the waitress went... we were a very large party celebrating our Daughters Graduation, we were made to feel very welcome, it was an extremely hot day, the service was excellent and the staff were very accommodating, we had a lovely area reserved for us and all our needs were met with smiling and efficient staff. the food was excellent and we did not... I went here with a couple of friends for a good catch up. The menu was really good, plenty of choice. The food was also good but I wouldn't say anything special. However, all hot, tasty and would come again.

I must have gone to a different pub called the Cowhers than a lot of the others because we really liked the modern changes to the pub. Service was really good and quick and the food was very nice. The location is great so I say give it a go for yourself.

The Cowherds has recently had its interior revamped. Guess what? There are now more people crammed into the same space, so one of the few places in Southampton that had a reasonably intimate atmosphere is now spoilt - by the cash hungry mentality of the chain business running it. It's a real shame - both because the interior has lost... More

Ate with a large group of friends and found the service very poor, bordering on rude. We were told lots of food wasn't available and often had to wait longer than we'd like to order. I had the sirloin steak which was average and accompanied by a few chips and a mass of cold peas. On top of this I... More

The garlic bread starter was £4.50 for four pieces of bread soaked in butter with not much butter and poor value. The scampi and prawn main course took an hour to arrive but there was no prawn. The bacon and Brie melt used the cheapest possible streaky fatty bacon that I doubt even our local foxes would eat, but our... More

I came with a family group including a small child who is very allergic to eggs. The staff were helpful and pleasant and when they didn't know the information about food ingredients they went to find out. Our meals were good pub grub rather than gourmet, but good value and the menu has some interesting choices. The location of the... More

We're semi-regular visitors to the Cowherds and its our first visit since the refurb. The pub looks great and seems lighter now. The food was of a very high quality for the pub, as it always is and it was excellent value... £94 for 4 people, each had a starter, main and 2 of us had puddings and drink each.... More

We've been eating here for eight years and the service has generally been good. The food is OK. The staff serve quickly, but we've had to wait rather a long time on occasion, and they are friendly. This pub is worth visiting and we recommend it.
