Went to lunch with a friend and we both had the seared salmon with crushed potatoes and a white wine cream. The food came out in a time that did not seem possibly long enough for the food to have been cooked from fresh. The salmon had a hard crust to parts of it which to me seemed like it... More

A busy olde worlde pub, complete with low ceilings - good food, good service and the chance to tuck away in a corner....however if it's busy you'll have neighbours. Right next to the common too, so walking in is easy. Their parking lot isn't that big so you might struggle to get a space right next to the pub if... More

Large glass of house wine and a pint cost £10! Ok so it's a nice location but while going to sit outside with my partner and talking about the £6 for a glass of wine TWO members of staff rudely commented on my conversation. A little customer service training wouldn't go amiss.

The Cowherds has a prime location at the edge of Southampton Common. Its neither gastro pub nor Wetherspoons, falling uncomfortably in the middle with overpriced food that is little different in quality to Wetherspoons but 50% more expensive. The choice of beer doesn't rescue this venue, with some very mediocre, bland chain ales such as Ringwood 'Best'. Avoid. For the... More

This used to be a nice pub but food now is mediocre at best. Great place to get a drink on a sunny day after a walk around the Common but not recommended for food. There are many other places in Southampton now that serve far better good at more reasonable prices.

We stopped in for a meal early on Friday evening. The pub had a very busy bar scene, and the restaurant seems very popular as well. The atmosphere, therefore, was lively and to me positive. While the service was friendly and professional, it is the food that really stands out. We had olives and tear and share garlic bread for... More

Visited this pub with my daughter and nephew one Sunday about 12.45/1 pm. We got a table straight away and had excellent friendly service. The meal took about 1/2 hour to arrive - we all ordered roast dinner for which there was a selection of meats. It was extremely tasty although the potatoes were a little over done. However we... we had a party of 12 booked, we were served drinks, then had to go looking for a waiter to order food, we then waited over an hour for food to arrive & when it arrived it was poor, steaks not cooked properly, 1 dish was lamb shoulder, some barley cooked cabbage & a dollop of mush & it was... More

After waiting in a line at the bar for 10mins we were shown to a table. We then waited a further 20mins for someone to come over to get our drinks order! God knows why it took around another 20mins just to bring us the 2 cokes we ordered. Once we got drinks they took our food order and we... More
