i am not a lover of fish & I dislike battered fish as the batter always seems to have to much fat/oil in it for me and the bottom skin is always slimy., However, at Mother Kelly's fish restaurant in Portchester the have a rice flour batter & they remove the skin on the bottom, I have not tried the... always make the pilgrimage when in the area, the quality, service and experience make sure i always come back. although i've learnt to miss out the busy periods when the oldies rule, and the kids kick off. the food is cooked fresh to order so don't worry about it sitting there and going soggy. and the pineapple fritters are worth... I and my husband went to Mother Kelly's near Portchester. The table arrangement here is very poor, the people sitting next table can hear you even whispering! The staff acted rude, dint seem open minded and dint look comfortable when dealing with us! Sorry we couldn't notice the food taste with all these since we wanted to finish the food and get out... More

I have been a long standing visitor of Mother Kelly's since 1988 and my previous review was glowing about them. However I recently visited with my family and I was sadly disappointed. Apart from the friendly lady who seated us, the rest were just miserable. If you don't like working on a Sunday get another job. The quality of the... More

For what is in reality, a cafe, the prices are a little high. The quality and service remain consistent, evidenced by how busy it always is. On this occasion, the chips were hot, fresh and there were no small crunchy, dry pieces which often make up the portion, just a decent sized portion of proper chips. We had fish and... More

Scampi looked like chicken nuggets and over cooked shell. The fish was oily. This place clearly trades on name alone and not quality of food. the chips... More

I have been travelling down to Portsmouth most years since 1986 and have been visiting Mother Kelly's during most visits since 1990. Sometimes it was when I was on a business trip and others times when I was travelling with my family. It wasn't just me who recognised this eatery as good, but several colleagues also commented on the quality... More

Recently made a visit to Mother Kellys Paulsgrove Restaurant before boarding Brittany Ferries. Very impressed. The Restaurant was very clean and the staff were very friendly. I had Cod and Chips with mushy peas and a pot of tea. I will definatley make further trips when i go from Portsmouth to France on an evening crossing with Brittany Ferries. First... More

I had reserved for a group (20+ teenagers) and we were not disappointed. We had a nice set of tables with plenty of space. We were greeted at the door with a large smile and a hello which was nice as it's not always the case with large groups. The food was good. Great sized portions. The service was quick,... More
