There was little flexibility regarding the meals (we asked to have a fishcake instead of fish with one meal but were refused, even though the fishcake was on the menu). There was no real atmosphere in the place; it was a bit sparse and unwelcoming. But the food itself was good and reasonably priced.

We came across the Eagle and Child when driving through the Cotswolds on our way home on a Sunday afternoon. We were looking for somewhere to enjoy a nice Sunday lunch, and that's exactly what we got. The place was reasonably full, but we managed to squeeze the 5 of us around a table for 4. The menu was fairly... More

When a relative booked a table for eleven for a family reunion and I read the reviews, I was a little unnerved. I can only write a review based on my experience on the day ( just like everyone else here), and I have to say that my experience at The Eagle and Child was a positive one, and that... More

I was with a group of about twenty booked well in advance and we all booked our meals beforehand. They seemed to have lost this though. I went for a main and dessert as i love sticky toffee pudding, but they substituted chocolate brownie for this. 2 of us had the wild mushroom risotto - I was lucky as mine... More

Popped in for a light lunch, and the food was tasty, well presented, but not outstanding. Certainly a bit pricy for what it was, but this is stow on the wold, so most things are more expensive. Decent pint, but limited range. Staff friendly.

There's a reason it's easy to get a table at The Eagle and Child on a Saturday lunch time while everywhere else has queues out the door: it's rubbish. The food? Poor. I'd have been disappointed to receive it 20 years ago as a school dinner. Bangers and mash very salty and made with poor quality sausages. Whitebait almost inedibly... More

We booked the Eagle and Child on a Saturday night for dinner. We had visited before a couple of years ago for lunch and really enjoyed it. We have a dog so we were keen to find places that would accept a family of six, including two children and our four legged friend and we were initially very pleased to... More

We went to Stow on a cold snowy Thursday. We were having a great day and popped into the Eagle and Child at lunch time. There was no one in there. The Australian barman was pleasant and chatty. We had a good pint which we drank slowly and left. The Pub being under new management I assumed the decor which... More

A group of us popped in here at 2pm on a Saturday for a quick lunch. To be honest, it wasn't our first choice, but every other pub in Stow was full due to the bad weather. The place was empty save for a few locals in the bar, and we noted the Under New Management sign outside in the... More

We should have been concerned when every other pub was packed out and this was dead on a Saturday afternoon. Moody staff, bad service, Guiness poured through incorrectly, and £7 for a baguette with simple filling....ridiculous. Wouldn't even pay that in London. General advice: don't bother.
