My partner surprised me with a lunch date here for my birthday! The food was some of the best I have ever tasted, started with 2 little amuse bouche on the house, my first taste of pigeon to start, a lovely lamb dish and a chocolate delice to polish it off, the milk ice cream was beautiful! The thing I... More

Not only was the food great, the service was terrific. From our main host Helen, to the local produce and the crockery and the don't get me started on the great value for money. Please do visit if you get the chance, it truly deserves its stars and it's a wonder why prices are triple what they charge.

The three course week night menu for £32 was excellent value. The menu is limited, which is often a sign of the quality; the care and skill that goes into these dishes couldn't be applied to a large menu. In addition to the basic courses, we were also served canapés, an appetiser and petit fours. All in all, a beautifully... More

I was lucky enough to eat at Le Champignon Sauvage with a group of friends. I've eaten there before but never had the tasting menu, it was superb with spot on portion sizes and well balanced flavours. The corn beef and steak tartar was the high light of my meal! Definitely worth a trip for anybody and the front of... More

We booked this restaurant a month before our date to make sure we had a table as reviews suggested it was a popular place and we were glad we did as we would have been very disappointed if we had missed this exceptional place. The reception and ambiance was professional and efficient and soon we were seated in the intimate... More

My friend and I visited Le Champignon Sauvage for lunch mainly due to it's 2 star status having only ever tried out 1 star restaurants. We were greeted by a really lovely lady (short hair not sure of her name but she was excellent). We ordered our food which was very good, though not exceptional. However, my main disappointment was... More

First time visit I was a little bit sceptical; I was invited without having read anything about it. What a hidden surprise within those walls. Not the most appealing decor but enjoyed the food, all was about food and service. Came back after the races and...really enjoyed it. Well done!

Definitely one of the best restaurant i've ever been too, new to trip advisor, but felt necessary to comment on best restaurant locally for me, so my reviews are somewhat back dated to earlier this year. Food is always ahead of the trends, taste excellent incorporating wild ingredients, foreign influences and modern gastronomy, with out being over pretentious or lacking... More

I'd heard of this restaurant, both from friends and the excellent Essence series of books written by the proprietor David Everitt-Matthias. Sometimes anticipation of somewhere with an excellent reputation can lead to disappointment, but not in this case. You could walk right by the restaurant every day and probably never notice it (hence the title of this review). It's in... More
