The landmark Regency building housing The Montpellier Chapter is a glorious setting for dinner and drinks. The most perfect fusion of old and new, traditional and contemporary, The Montpellier Chapter hotel has been restored to its former glory and given a designer style facelift, its stunning new look evident nowhere so much as in its superb restaurant. Parquet flooring, simple painted walls, sinuously lined furniture and carefully thought out mood lighting do little to distract from the main event The Montpellier Chapters food. Prepared in the restaurants open kitchen with its beech clay oven, dishes are seasonal British favourites with a firmly classical flavour and local ingredients used wherever possible. Award winning head chef Tom Rains is very much led by inspirational cook and food writer Simon Hopkinson (Roast Chicken and Other Stories) and his philosophy of thoughtfully prepared food. The results are stunning; simple and delicious at once. Open from 10am The Montpellier Chapters bar is the ideal setting for not only an aperitif but morning coffee, afternoon tea or a drink and a catch up with friends.

Nice evening meal

Went for a Friday night meal for two. One of the best meals I've had so far in cheltenham. The only thing that let it down was one waitor who did not seem to have the same customer service skills as the others. He wasn't attentive and seemed sort of out of place, this is why I've rated it a... read more

A smart restaurant in a smart hotel but food a little overpriced. We found the bar area rather cramped and the whole layout a bit confusing - or is that more unconventional. Perhaps because it's part of a hotel. Service was generally attentive and our table, for 6, in the window was well positioned to view the busy restaurant. The... More

Went for an afternoon tea here with friends. It's a lovely place but unfortunately it's let down by the terrible service received. We booked a table for 3pm and it took 25 mins before we could even order anything. We had to ask someone to take our order who went and got someone else. The guys serving us was rude.... More

Probably not the best day too judge as went as a family - 4 adults and 2 boys under 5. Food and menu good and children under 5 ate free. Summary below: - smart location. - room bit hot and stuffy for me. - service relaxed if adults but bit slow with children. - food nice. Tip - better for... More

Went for afternoon tea with three friends. The table was booked for 3pm but despite arriving a few minutes early, we didn't get any food until after 4. Everything was incredibly slow and inattentive - there were lots of staff walking about but none of them seemed the slightest bit interested! We had to ask several times if we could... More

The food here is excellent. I had the scallops to start - large succulent scallops cooked perfectly with local black pudding. The salmon with crab and lemon mash is also superb. Someone else paid so can't comment on the price but it was certainly good value.

We wantee to say thank you to the chair of our trustees and let him choose the venue! Well chosen! The food was suberb, service was excellent and lovely ambience. It is an old building fitted out in contempirary style - vey nice. The only downside was the layout of the hotel itself. The toliets were hard to find as... More

I had two meals at the Montpellier Chapter, lunch and dinner which were both delicious!! Lunch was a lighter fare, some fresh haddock, which was melt in your mouth delicious! and dinner was a beautiful, juicy steak, perfectly grilled. Dessert was an incredible Creme Brulee, with apples and cinnamon, it was my first experience with Creme Brulee, and I absolutely... More

The restaurant ambiance is pleasant, in a lovely big room with the kitchen on show at one end. But the menu is quite limited for choice and the food quite bland. I tried the mushroom soup as a starter which was tasteless, so definitely avoid that! I had a pizza as a main which was uninspiring and didn't seem totally... More

very disappointing evening, for £85 per person you would expect a lot more, apart from the service everything else was wrong. £85 for a glass of bubbly on arrival followed by a plate of aperitifs was all that made it any different from a normal evening except a massively reduced choice. There was no music or any other reason to... More
