The landmark Regency building housing The Montpellier Chapter is a glorious setting for dinner and drinks. The most perfect fusion of old and new, traditional and contemporary, The Montpellier Chapter hotel has been restored to its former glory and given a designer style facelift, its stunning new look evident nowhere so much as in its superb restaurant. Parquet flooring, simple painted walls, sinuously lined furniture and carefully thought out mood lighting do little to distract from the main event The Montpellier Chapters food. Prepared in the restaurants open kitchen with its beech clay oven, dishes are seasonal British favourites with a firmly classical flavour and local ingredients used wherever possible. Award winning head chef Tom Rains is very much led by inspirational cook and food writer Simon Hopkinson (Roast Chicken and Other Stories) and his philosophy of thoughtfully prepared food. The results are stunning; simple and delicious at once. Open from 10am The Montpellier Chapters bar is the ideal setting for not only an aperitif but morning coffee, afternoon tea or a drink and a catch up with friends.

What a pity

Myself and two others visited the restaurant as we were looking for somewhere we could get a decent steak and had heard good reports about the restaurant. Upon arrival the building is a stunning Georgian town house set on a corner plot in the Montpellier area of Cheltenham. The interior... read more

I had dinner at this restaurant a few years ago and wasn't impressed at all as the service was poor and the meal wasn't worth the cost. However, having revisited, I can happily report that both the service and the food has improved exponentially. The restaurant management have obviously upped their game and sorted out the problems - well done... More

Visited with my wife and her parents. We all had the steak which was top notch. Despite some iffy on the service we found it to be very good, so possible that they have taken note!

We got lucky with the weather and had lunch on the Terrace. Service was polite, efficient, attentive, and the food was wonderful, offering something a little different. I would definitely visit again.

What could and should be a great place to eat and drink is sadly ruined by complete and utter lack of good basic management. From start to finish it was a poor experience with regard to service. Understaffed and stressed out staff. To Chapter's owner..I would suggest making a call to the manager of 'Loxley's' , in Stratford upon Avon,... More

I came to the Montpellier Chapter for a meal with my family. The evening was brilliant! We had a warm welcome when we arrived at the restaurant, the room itself is lovely and modern with an open plan kitchen and pizza oven on display. There is a great choice of wine and the waiter who served had good knowledge. The... More

We enjoyed a wonderful afternoon tea at the Chapter for my husbands 50th. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were fresh and delicious which we enjoyed on a pleasant and peaceful atmosphere. We are now looking to book an evening meal as the food was of a high quality. I would recommend afternoon tea here above other places in Cheltenham

This was where my husband chose to take me for my 'surprise' 60th birthday meal, along with our 'children' (both well over 27) and their other halves. I have no idea why. I had already told him that I had discounted the venue for a group Sunday lunch for 20 on the Sunday but, I guess, that's husbands for you... More

Booked here for afternoon tea on Mothers day as it was recommended online, and was one of the few places that didn't increase the charge purely for Mothers day. On arrival we couldn't find a reception or staff member to try and ask for our table. Reception turned out to be a wooden ball in the centre of the room... More

My fiance and I came here for dinner with my sister and her boyfriend as they were visiting us. Having dined here several times over the last few years we have noticed Montpellier Chapter's standards slipping. On this visit however, I must say their standards have hit rock bottom. The food when it eventually arrived (fillet steak and a couple... More
