Lovely Friday Lunch

We booked for lunch on Friday and having checked took our Dachshund, we had a table in the rear behind the bar. It's a nice Tudor style coaching inn with some nice art from local galleries. I had some well kept ale, and my wife some elderflower and cucumber cordial with sparkling water. We had... read more

Fantastic Old Inn with antique rooms and modern en-suite. Pub is great and restaurant exceptional. Right in the middle of this beautiful Village. Perfect for hiking to Flatford and Constable country.

Popped in on Saturday for a pint with family, I don't live too far away and was shocked at the price of a packet of crisps and nuts... £2.75 the nuts were in a bowl, which I didn't like and there was liquid in the bottom of the dish. I'm glad I didn't stay for food if this is what... More

A favourite pub of ours after a long walk - often from Manningtree (we catch the train from Colchester). Whether its a bar snack and quick cheeky pint before catching the bus or staying longer for a lazy lunch. Slightly on the upper end of the budget but the food is worth it. Much of it locally sourced and obviously... More

Have visited the Sun lots of times, for lunch and for dinner and have never had a bad meal. Menu changes regularly and daily specials are on a board. The service is a bit meh, seem uninterested and a little cold at times. The pub itself isn't that big inside, so booking at weekends and nights may be advisable. Has... More

We visited last weekend for Sunday Dinner. We found a well kept old coaching inn with a pleasant garden, & polite staff. Service was attentive without being intrusive. The wine list is extensive, & we enjoyed what we had. We're neither fussy nor experts, but the Dedham Vale fizz was a treat of a pallet refresher, and the lightly-oaked red... More

Proper old village pub, with rustic furniture and lounge area around an open fire there are huge sofas to relax and enjoy a drink. The menu is good and can normally walk and get a table without a wait. The food is good and we are always happy with service. If you prefer white table cloths and sparkling glasses this... More

The service was second to none. I had to telephone to advise that I may be late as I was badly held up on the M25 but I was totally reassured that my table would be held for me. On arrival I was made to feel very welcome and in fact had a drink in their lovely garden whilst waiting... More

Came here with family and friends for a relaxing meal, and that's exactly what we got, first of all, the waiter could recall every drink the bar had to offer, not that we were testing him, he just fluently recalled the wines and beers when asking what we would like. After we had ordered, the starters came out quickly, (much... More
