Very good local food and drink, fine indeed, only a couple of quibbles

The Landgate offers a pretty classy menu for small digs in town, with some real haute quirks at bistro prices, to which I was very much a fan. The welcome was excellent - the homemade sourdough delicious, but why serve butter on a rock? It was a nightmare to get off it! Better a butter dish... read more

This little bistro is a nice place to eat, but just falls short of better. The drink and food menu is locally sourced where possible which is a great start. The menu and price is aspirational, but just doesn't quite tick all the boxes. The one lady service is efficient, friendly and knowledgeable...excellent. The home made bread I found heavy.... More

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit here and wouldn't hesitate to recommend! The wine was very good to wash down the incredibly tasty poached Dover sole. We also enjoyed the cheeses for desert which finished our meal perfectly (or maybe it was the prosecco)?!

Nice modern restaurant, good friendly service. Food sounds and looks lovely, but doesn't quite make it on taste. The salt cod and chilli fishcake was really salty (I probably should have expected that) but had no trace of chilli to cut through it. My guinea fowl was nicely cooked but the venison was a bit tough. The big hunk of... More

On a cold and blustery day in Rye we were treated to a delicious lunch of fishcakes and an amazing venison cottage pie with some excellent vegetables. We chose a Muscadet and a good claret from a choice of half bottles and we were very pleased with the service, the food and the bill

I had scallops, which were delicious and lemon sole, which was not quite so good as it was not cooked enough for my taste. IT was a very cold night, the restaurant was too cool for comfort and the atmosphere was non existent. The place lacks life.

Had a delicious meal here on Good Friday - amazing spiced squid/leek & Roquefort tart to start & then delicious lamb/venison for mains followed by a raspberry creme brûlée for dessert. Great flavours & brilliant service - my one criticism would be that the portion of venison was small - just two pieces of meat. Otherwise a fantastic evening.

This is by far the best place for dinner in Rye. It is very small and booking is essential. The food is excellent and beautifully presented and the setting is cosy but very relaxed. Attention to detail is superb. The food is to die for and the addition of all the little extras like home made bread and truffles at... More

Book early and you won't be disappointed. Concise menu which meant that everything was cooked to order. Other restaurants that sometimes try too hard should look to this restaurant as a template on how to get it right on all fronts. The food was all delicious, the spicy fishcake starter a particular high for me.

We had hoped to go to this restaurant on previous visits to Rye but it had been closed. I'm really pleased that we made it this time because it is the best meal we have had in Rye. It is a small restaurant with a small menu but the choice was good. You might want to contact them beforehand if... More
