The Ambrette defies description. The three: Margate, Rye and now Canterbury, all use local produce with Indian over and undertones to provide fantastic food. Service in attentive but not stuffy. Just go there, they are not what you expect from Indian restaurants.

Loved our meal here, lots of little extra courses included, which we loved, especially the little expresso cup of hot curry soup ! Lovely atmosphere and great service

We were blown away with the value for money and creative genius of this take on an Indian meal. True fine dining. Delicate small tasty artistic plates of fine foods. PLEASE BOOK. If you want Hugh amounts of food this restaurant is not for you. It is a dining experience.

This is not your average Indian restaurant. This is 'fine dining' Indian food, beautifully presented. The portion sizes are such that you can comfortably eat three courses and leave the table feeling 'comfortable' as opposed to the normal bloated feeling one gets when eating at your average Indian restaurant. The interior of the building is traditional and comfortable with wood... More

We sometimes head to Rye on the spur of the moment and have never managed to get a lunch time table here. So we were delighted they managed to fit us in, early evening this time. It was worth our perseverance as we had a great meal in great surroundings. The building and furnishing are lovely and haven’t been spoilt... More

Very carefully presented, with amuse bouches, etc but none of the dishes were memorable and with an occasionally jarring unpleasantness. Staff very helpful and venue is lovely, but could do without the classical music - which is a nice try but actually invasive.

Three of us for the lunchtime menu-two of new to the place-the other very regular From crossing the threshold a real treat-the wonderful old building and the gentle hint of spice on the air all added to the buildup Menus arrived and we advised one person was gluton free - without hestitation the waitress offered menu twists to accommodate them.... The food in this restaurant was some of the finest I have ever eaten and was world class. Our friends were blown away by the presentation here and described it as a Masterchef experience. The flavours were outstanding.

visited on a saturday night as a group of 4 and the restaurant was very busy. Excellent service from new staff I hadn't seen before, very professional. Food was excellent, I started with a pigeon breast starter, wonderful flavours followed by the vegetarian Thali. full of interest and subtle flavours. everyone else ordered different courses and we all left empty...
