Smashing pub!

A very warm welcome on a wet Saturday lunch time. Placed was packed but we were quickly found a table in the back room. There was a slight whiff of 'wet dog' due to there being three in the room, but this did not distract from the general ambience. Two of the party were tempted by the scallop... read more

Stayed at the Standard in one of their (5) luxury rooms, very comfortable and well appointed. Had dinner in the main bar area, food was very good and the ambience excellent with locals sitting round the bar and roaring log fire providing that relaxing enviroment. Inn is in main part of citadel so dont expect only to hear the bird... More

Really enjoyed my visit to The Standard Inn. We visited during Rye Scallop Week and chose the pub because the menu looked great. Four scallop dishes at £9 each, which we thought was a bargain. I chose the scallop linguine with chilli, sun-dried tomatoes and coriander. The dish came with three huge, delicious scallops on a bed of spaghetti. It... More

There are 2 venues at Standard. The front one is warm with atmosphere and ambience. The other, where one is served food is like a school dinner hall with large tables very close together. Making it very noisy. Worst of all it has no ambience and is so cold your food gets quickly cold. There is a fire there which... More

Welcoming, informal hostelry that shines out in contrast to the hidebound, stuffy, ill mannered competition in this picturesque but sometimes disquieting location. Loved the hosts, food, beer, wine and atmosphere. Stunning customer service. A really special place. Go!

This was my first visit to this pub for over 10 years and it's certainly now much smarter. The beer was great and all the food good. The Scallops I had with black pudding, panchetta and cauliflower puree was beyond amazing. My partners chowder very good too. The Roast pork main was good/okay but not in the sane class. I... More

Sunday roast lunch for 7, 4 which were children. The food was delish, the portions generous, the price reasonable, the service nothing was too much trouble (even the left over meat from my 'veggie' sister was wrapped in foil to take away for a pet), the wine well selected, the discrepancy over the bill quickly and apologetically sorted. One small... More

If your looking for somewhere to stay in Rye then look no further, Tim & Raj re-launched the Inn only last November and the result is excellent. We stayed for three nights in their beautiful Hythe room and were made to feel very welcome, even our geriatric dog! There are many places to eat in Rye but we never went... More

Great atmosphere, great good, passionate, enthusiastic, friendly, open and accommodating staff. Really warm welcome and reception. Very glad we found this place, went back on our second night, unfortunately they were too busy for us to eat. A much more pleasant welcome than other places we tried in Rye such as The Union, The Mermaid and The George and Rye,... More

Really great pub, friendly staff, full of locals, wonderful food. We had a great evening. The fish and chips was exceptiona,l thick piece of fish, light batter and chunky chips. One of our cheapest evenings out in Rye and the best. Highly recommended
