excellent food & family freindly

Excellent food (I had Sunday roast with delicious Yorkshire puddings and melt-in-your-mouth succulent local lamb, others in my group had roast beef, catch of the day and children's burgers & macaroni cheese). Very friendly obliging staff who accommodated a group of 14 of us (8 kids) on a foul... read more

First place to eat dinner in Rye. Went back for lunch next day. Ambience, food and staff all really outstanding. Local Rye Bay Scallops and everything was really good, fresh and local. Prices reasonable for quality. Don't miss it.

Wow, what tasty food I had at The Standard Inn. Three tender pieces of lamb perched on mint mash, contrasting with deliciously dark steamed kale and dotted with samphire, all served up with red wine gravy. Nouvelle cuisine portion sizes suit me, but you'll want more courses if you're truly ravenous. We were lucky enough to arrive early, so we... More

We wandered around Rye looking for somewhere to eat and chanced upon the Standard. What a find. The staff were very friendly, the selection of drinks was very good with lovely real ales, and most importantly the food was fantastic. We have fishcakes and scallops for starters and the lamb and roast cod for mains. It was the best food... More

Tables cannot be reserved in this establishment. They are allocated on a first come, first served basis. On our arrival we were served by whom I think was the manager or owner. He was more concerned with the complaint of a neighbour about a delivery van idling outside his house than he was about greeting/welcoming two new customers. After enquiring... More

We stumbled across The Standard when we visited Rye in February. We were welcomed and even though it was cold outside, it was warm in. The place isn't massive, but that's what I liked. The food was brilliant, staff friendly and a place I remembered visiting.

Staying in Rye for a couple of days and not knowing Rye, the Standard was recommended to us by a friendly antique dealer in the town for a light lunch... what a recommendation! We arrived early (11.45am) lunch wasn't available until 12:00 however, we were made extremely welcome. After perusing a small but perfectly formed wine list and menu we... More

We were thinking about staying here overnight as the rooms did look very nice online but when I rang up a very nice jovial sounding man with a bit of an accent advised me there had been an electric kitchen fire overnight, so breakfast would be served in another inn. Instead we chose to stay somewhere else but as we... More

We went here for our team away day. The staff were quick to reply to all my emails organising the day and very welcoming when we arrived. The pub itself is tastefully decorated and the food was delicious - fresh, tasty and locally sourced. And to top it all, the food was very reasonably priced. I would highly recommend this... More
