Awesome battered fish & Dog friendly

Modest appearing old pub and restaurant. Lots of character. While my expectations were low after the visit to the ladies room, the food and service was excellent. I had the best battered fish ever. Our starters were scallops and crusted goat cheese with olives, caper berries & tomatoes -- all... read more

Visiting Rye for a few days and ate at The Standard tonight. Good menu, we both chose the Salt Marsh Lamb. It was excellent. The apple and rhubarb crumble is good. We would definitely eat here again and recommend you visit. Best to get there early, we enjoyed a relaxing drink at 5.30pm and food is served from 6pm. It... More

We visited the Standard a few times in the past week. The service, from a young and lively staff, was unfailingly polite, very friendly, and always helpful. A pleasure.

The standard of the food here was as good as it gets. It is a bit confusing when you walk in - not immediately obvious that you have to order at the bar, but the service was good, and we didn't have to wait long, and when the food came it was as good as I have had. It shoiws... More

Visited on recommendation of people staying at our B+B and glad they did! Very tasty food and good service. If in Rye, would recommend.

Our first trip to Rye, and on recommendation it was suggested pop in to The Standard to eat. We were not disappointed. As a family with two boys (11 & 13) our quick visit extended into a good 3 hr stay, due to great food, excellent service, and locals who were superb company. I would highly recommend anyone looking for... More

The home-made pie of the day was delicious! Unfortunately they ran out of the 2nd vegetable and my husband basically had lamb with green cabbage-with only the tiniest amount of mashed potato-disappointing. We wished that we had waited for a table in the bar area as the tables were close together in the dining room but with no atmosphere.

I visited the Standard in Rye on several occasions over the summer and on the whole it was an enjoyable experience. The new design of the pub was a big improvement on the dark and dingy atmosphere when I last paid a visit. The decor is lighter and there are some quirky nick knacks dotted around. The only issues I... More

We stopped off at this very lively and atmospheric bar/restaurant on our unofficial ale trail. We were delighted by the ales we drank and food we ate. We were only snacking so chose two of the starters to share. My husband chose the Chorizo, chickpeas and red peppers I chose the calamari and chilli sauce. Both plates were well presented... More

I'm local to Rye and have eaten in the Standard a few times now. The food on Sun 9th was not up to scratch, overcooked lamb and the meal cold. Maybe that is why we had waited so long. However we have had meals in the past that were super. I would visit more frequently if only the menu was... More
