I tend to ignore negative reviews from sad people who write pages and pages. Get a life ! We ate there on a Wednesday evening in mid-September. Generous helping of whitebait for starters; rib-eye steak done to perfection; merlot very reasonably priced. Two young staff, friendly and efficient. OK, plates could have been hotter, but otherwise service very good.

My girlfriend and had been told that the was a great place to eat out and from the exterior this place looked awesome, chalkboard menu, lovely authentic building... however once sat we started to sorry... paper laminate menu's... never a welcoming site! However being a seafood restaurant, at least hopefully the seafood would be good... No! The seafood platter despite... More

To be fair, when my husband and I tipped up there around 8.00 p.m. and peered through the window, we thought hmmm, this does not look good as it was practically empty. However, I was hungry, wearing high heels and, having threatened to punch my husband's lights out if he made me walk around the town AGAIN, we ventured inside.... More

Stopped today after a wander around Rye. Pleasant lunch time seafood platter, plentiful portion, fresh & tasty @ £10.95 well priced. My friend enjoyed salmon fish cakes served on fresh asparagus with a poached egg & hollandaise sauce @ 12. Washed down with a pleasant Pinot Grigio @ £14. The restaurant is spacious, the staff friendly & attentive.

Just spent a week in rye and ate at carey's for three nights after an excellent first nights food. Dover sole was first rate as was the skate wing, nice king prawn starter, as were the mussels, nice atmosphere and very good and friendly service, small starter on the last night was removed from the bill,as were two glasses of... We went to this restaurant because Simply Italian was too busy. We had looked at the menu and decided that it was quite pricey, but had to return after seeing the line forming outside SI. From the outside, it looks a nice restaurant and the plentiful signage stating "fresh local produce" "all of our food is cooked fresh" etc. gave... More

It was quiet today which maybe should have rung alarm bells as everywhere else was busy. We ordered whole plaice and crusted cod. The veggies were meant to be for two, the portion was on the mean side, although they tasted lovely and buttery. The plaice was on the bone - fair enough, but after picking it over, there was... This restaurant appeared to be 'high end' from the outside, however once inside you realise it been neglected for some years and needs a lick of paint/change of decor/new cutlery/plates etc. Was excited by offer of local fresh fish and ordered 'Traditional Cod and Chips' for £10.50- Assumed fish would be local and fresh as their menu states, however what... Not being very adventurous regarding fish dishes I went for traditional cod and chips. The fish was good but the chips were obviously out of the freezer, I expected them to be freshly made from what I thought to be an upmarket restaurant. Saying that, The Dover sole and plaice my companions enjoyed looked very good although the vegetables were... More

Don't be put off by some of the oddly negative reviews of this eatery. We had dinner here after a long journey to Rye, and the experience was wholly pleasurable. The menu is seriously fishy, which is what we wanted. A starter of scallops was brilliant, better than we have had in far more expensive restaurants elsewhere. Whitebait were crisp... More
