Loved the menu which offered more adventurous dishes. Taste was amazing and the staff were lovely. Quaint surroundings too.

This was for a midday lunch for two . The advantage it was in the precinct . Not bad service for a quick meal . Average value for a few pounds .

Interesting and historic building. Dining restaurant pleasant - it was unusual to have nobody offer to take our coats so we draped them over the back of our chair or left them in a bundle in the floor, as did other diners. Odd for a restaurant with staff in waiting garb and tables laid with starch tablecloths (perhaps they only... More

Nice ambience, excellent food, a little chilly because it was very cold outside and the open fire was losing its battle!

Lovely building but criminally overcooked risotto, over powering sage stuffing with the chicken breast and an honestly inedible Kentish blue on a cheese plate I had to leave did rather ruin it. At no point did any staff ask how the meal was going, even when the cheese plate went back almost untouched. But my partner enjoyed a perfectly spiced... More

An excellent meal that included the best toffee apple souffle I have ever tasted rounded off with some very pleasant conversation and a port by the open fire.

Fantastic location, fantastic old building, fantastic food and incredible service. We enjoyed every mouthful of food, every sip of wine and every friendly word from Chloe or waitress and Matt the Maitre D. We are planning to go and stay at the hotel and enjoy this most wonderful hospitality again soon

Hugely evocative Tudor inn - oak panelling, leaded windows, roaring log fires and the ghosts of smugglers past who regularly met to plan their wicked deeds.... Super meal, friendly service and reasonable prices. Cannot wait to re-visit!

We actually chose to eat in the bar next to a roaring log fire in the ginormous inglenook fireplace. My daughter had the beer battered haddock and chips this was served with mushy peas - excellent, tartar sauce and half a lemon wrapped in muslin. The portion was huge and we wished we ordered one to share. I had the... More

we visited at lunch time and had a good heartening meal in the restaurant. Really thick French onion soup and ham hock terrine were both yummy, and then hearty steak and kidney pudding. All very English but one up on usual pub grub. Coffee taken in front of a roaring (gas) fire in the snug. Rye is a picturesque historic... More
