Booked Sunday Lunch and went for the roast Beef. Service was quick, efficient and attentive. The beef was cooked as it should be and just melted. Veg cooked and presented very well. Price reflected the location, service and good food. The bar is interesting with little secrets!! Nice... read more

My husband booked The Mermaid as a special treat for our wedding anniversary, we had very high hopes as it had been raved about by friends, so maybe we expected too much? We both had a fillet steak, mine was so chewy I gave up,We ordered a bottle of Prosecco and had to ask for it twice and still waited... More

We booked via email to ensure we got a table as The Mermaid Inn gets booked. The choice was varied with something for everyone. The service was smooth and friendly from Sean, victor and Sam. Would eat here again.

We went for lunch and were generally disappointed with the welcome and service. Despite having booked, we were left standing in the restaurant for several minutes after arrival with no staff to be seen. People behind us walked out. The food was nice, but the overall ambience did not live up to our expectations for such an historic venue. As... More

The Mermaid Inn is a very beautiful building. Lots of history behind those walls and low ceiling. It's the shame we can say the same for the food (doesn't deserve 2AA ROSETTE). The food served was not as described on the menu. I had a spicy crab club sandwich.I've been served a very blend crab (not spicy at all with... More

Thank you for your review. It is always gratifying when guests appreciate The Mermaid Inn as a Grade II Listed Building that was rebuilt in 1420, offering a really unique experience whether residing as a hotel guest or dining. Apologies that your Spicy Crab Club sandwich did not meet your expectations. I have spoken with chef who confirmed that as... More

This is a fantastic building, and we stopped here for a drink and a sneaky look around it. Full of character, and the décor is fabulous! However, I think the owners are cashing in on it being the most famous hotels/restaurants in Rye because the prices are very high! I was looking forward to having a lunch here, but had... More

Thank you for your review. We are glad that you appreciated the Grade II Listed Building and the careful stewardship that such a building requires to maintain a building rebuilt in 1420, but is able to meet guests' and legal expectations in a modern environment. Thank you for your comments about the staff, who we are very proud of, who... More

Beautiful building with lots of history. Stopped by for a drink and sat out on the terrace, while staying close by. Really like the fireplace and atmosphere, and had friendly service by Sam. Will have to come by for a meal when visit Rye again.

Not much more you could say about an inn that has its history going back to shortly after the Norman conquest. The "rebuilt" Mermaid Inn is an ancient treasure of old timbers and Tudor charm; evocative of what romantics go looking for in what was "Merry Olde England". A variety of dining options including fine dining , the pub and... More

Recommended to visit The Mermaid by a friend who said that even if not going to eat there it was worth a visit just to see the fabulous building.
