Fantastic location, fantastic old building, fantastic food and incredible service. We enjoyed every mouthful of food, every sip of wine and every friendly word from Chloe or waitress and Matt the Maitre D. We are planning to go and stay at the hotel and enjoy this most wonderful hospitality again soon

Hugely evocative Tudor inn - oak panelling, leaded windows, roaring log fires and the ghosts of smugglers past who regularly met to plan their wicked deeds.... Super meal, friendly service and reasonable prices. Cannot wait to re-visit!

We actually chose to eat in the bar next to a roaring log fire in the ginormous inglenook fireplace. My daughter had the beer battered haddock and chips this was served with mushy peas - excellent, tartar sauce and half a lemon wrapped in muslin. The portion was huge and we wished we ordered one to share. I had the... More

we visited at lunch time and had a good heartening meal in the restaurant. Really thick French onion soup and ham hock terrine were both yummy, and then hearty steak and kidney pudding. All very English but one up on usual pub grub. Coffee taken in front of a roaring (gas) fire in the snug. Rye is a picturesque historic... More

I've been here a few times over the years. I think it has become somewhat faded and overpriced. I imagine it relies on its history and reputation to draw in the customers. The food was good but not amazing. It was over fussy rather than concentrating on simple, good quality ingredients. Serving staff seemed really unknowledgable. For example, it was... More

I've spent the last two Christmases at the Mermaid Inn as well as several other short breaks, and always eaten at least one main meal in the hotel's restaurant. Meat, poultry and fish have all been first class as have desserts. And the staff are very welcoming.

I was 1 of 7 ladies lunching on Saturday 1st November 2014. Very warm welcome and extremely attentive waiting staff. The restaurant is full of character as would be expected for a building with so much history. The main menu was varied with some interesting dishes and we were also given a Special Wild Boar Menu - which was a... More

I had eaten in the Mermaid for a birthday meal years ago and it was very memorable. The restaurant has kept its formal fine dinning but is a little more relaxed and modern with the food since last time. I had the lobster saffron risotto to start which was so delicate and had wonderful flavours. My other half had the... More

Visited in October 2014 on a Sunday evening with my partner. We had previously tried having dinner here a couple of weeks before, but without a reservation, it was impossible. We were offered a small table in the bar if we preferred. On this occasion, we wanted to try their dinner menu, not their bar one and wanted more of... More
