We loved it !

We stayed at The Rye Lodge Hotel March 23rd to 25th and booked two weeks before our trip to dine at The Mermaid on the night of the 23rd. We had pre dinner drinks in the private lounge and felt relaxed and comfortable in gorgeous, old surroundings. The staff were warm and welcoming and we were... read more

Found this little gem of a pub/restaurant in Rye! Only stopped by for drinks but the setting was glorious, the staff were really friendly and our dog was treated to lots of attention. If we'd been in Rye for more than a day we'd have definitely stopped to eat here!

We had the good graces to of ending up staying here which of course drew us to their restaurant, I am solom to say that I miss the incredibly well attentive staff with some amazing food to boot, breakfast here was obviously of a high standard too, but if I have to complain about something I feel the food (for... top end prices for lunch and wine led to high expectations. Sadly the food is simply not good enough nor is the service attentive enough. The roast beef was completely over-cooked, all came plated with gravy poured over. Had to poor our own wine at times and no offer of horseradish or ground pepper.... Basics! The location is great and... More

Came in here for a drink, ended up with some food too! The venison scotch egg was lovely and served with a garlicky mustardy remoulade...egg had a beautifully crunchy coating...delicious. My aunt had the deep fried fish which she thought was very tasty. Service was really good (apart from not getting the salt and pepper we asked for) and what... More

We had dinner Saturday night in March 2015, 4 of us , lovely meal , the restaurant/bar is amazing , lots of period features , old comfortable sofas -roaring fires in each room , although it was unseasonably warm that night. Great choice of food and wine - service was excellent - you have to book though

My husband and had lunch in the bar during the scallop festival. The bar in this ancient inn is very atmospheric and has the largest inglenook fireplace I have ever seen and a welcome log fire which was burning small tree trunks! We each chose a different scallop dish, both of which were delicious and my husband had a local... More

We met my nephew and his fiancée for Sunday lunch in this iconic hotel/restaurant. Never visited Rye before and this establishment encapsulated the whole atmosphere of the old town; the ancient streets and buildings are a delight to walk around. The Mermaid was an excellent choice, the AA 2 rosette award to the restaurant is well justified. A pretty standard... More

It was a beautiful sunny day and our day off, so we though ah! A day out in Rye. Just the ticket. WE have been before, many times and eaten at THe Mermaid a couple of times, lovely! We usually go for the fish of the day. It was local plaice, grilled with caper butter, pan fried new potatoes and... More
