The antiquity of the Mermaid sets it up for a great atmospheric experience - lots of oak beams taken from ships in the 14th/15th century. The service is attentive and professional without being over-enthusiastic. The food is very well prepared and presented and the quantity is adequate without leaving you feeling stodged. The staff were very friendly and made the... More

I booked two months in advance as I heard it was quite difficult to get a table. The Mermaid itself is very spooky and our two teenage daughters did want to leave the table to use the bathroom - we hadn't even read the reviews before which says it all! Very eery place. Food and service amazing. Would defintely recommend.

We had dinner here on Friday. Although we had checked the the menu on-line, the one we were given was quite a bit more expensive, We thought we'd stay and treat ourselves but we expected much more than was delivered. The main (beef rib sharing platter) was bland, fatty and not enough meat for two people. The staff were nice... More

We met some family members here for lunch and must say it was possible the worst food I have ever eaten. Even my 11 year old who loves his food and pretty much eats everything complained about the food, If you could call it that. 3 of us had muscles and fries, The fries where saturated in fat and where... Wonderful attentive staff and delicious food in a special location. The Mermaid Inn was built in 1200 something, rebuilt in 1420 and the Inn has managed to keep the old buildings along with a modern eqipped inn. The restaurant has a cosy atmosphere and is a charming experiance added to the wonderful food.

Busy pub and good for pub food but made the mistake of ordering chilli squid salad and it was horrible. Completely doused in bottled sweet chilli sauce not just on squid but over new potatoes and every salad leaf. Squid itself looked cooked from frozen and well done at that. To top it all it cost around £15. Husband had... More
