As another reviewer has said, the décor needs freshening up and so do the waiting staff, at least on the day we were there. One lady hardly smiled but the other tried harder, though they both gave the strong impression of not wanting to be there... I'll steal the other reviewer's "borderline surly", which describes it very well. Nor was... More

We chanced upon this place on a recent trip to Rye and walked in on the off-chance. They seemed quite busy but found us a table for two. Very friendly but efficient staff, very pleasant cool surroundings, everything spotlessly clean and, very important, proper napkins. We hadn't planned on a full lunch but ended up eating more than intended, The... More

The food was all high quality and plentiful - great fish dishes, both starters and mains. All very fresh (crap, salmon etc to start) and sea bass and mackerel as mains. However, let down by the pretty uninterested staff and service - borderline surly. The decor is all a bit "government office" like, and a needs a freshen up, at... More

Great relaxed atmosphere and knowledgeable staff who know the menu. Friendly and excellent venue for night out with the family. I had oysters and whelks; fresh and really tasty. The steamed fish and saffron sauce were well prepared, not over cooked or over seasoned. My wife had lobster and it too was grilled really wel I thou drying out. The... More

We came across this restaurant by chance, when in Rye at lunchtime on a Saturday - luckily they had space for two. We weren't that hungry and regretted not having room for a main course but the oysters were lovely, as was the fish board starter (which we shared) - desserts were also very good. If in the area again... More

Webbe’s Cookery School is the brain child of restaurateur and executive chef Paul Webbe, who offers specialist cookery lessons to enthusiastic amateurs and budding pro’s at both his Rye (Webbe’s at the Fish Cafe) and Hastings (Webbe’s Rock-a-nore) restaurants. The class I attended was housed in a gorgeous old warehouse which, in its former life, was Deans Teddy Bear factory... More

The Ryle plaice with pea puree was excellent. Mussels starter and Panacotta desert also very good. It is a busy place and customers were all enjoying the experience. Highly recommended.
