Having read other reviews of this restaurant after we had already booked a table we nearly cancelled. However we are very glad we didn't. It must be said on the night we visited we were lucky to have the owner, Paul Webbe in the kitchen, which we were told is a very rare occurrence due to his busy schedule. We... More

I flicked through the reviews, which had the usual mix of "amazing" and "urgh, not so good", and was a bit nervous booking it. We accidentally booked on the wrong day but the manager was friendly and managed to get us a table. The lightening could be cosier but overall the place is nice. We have a food business and... More

I'm not sure why this restaurant isn't ranked No 1 in Rye - it was certainly the best place we visited by far during a recent stay in the town. It has a lovely, relaxed bistro-style atmosphere, the quality of the fish dishes is excellent and the service is lovely.

A meal that got a lot better as it went along. Don't bother with the cockles to start, ours contained sand. Starters of bouillabaisse and the fishboard were ok: a genteelly measured bouillabaisse with mini croutons, lacking in character, and the fish board was a nice assembly, no more. Things got a lot better with the mains: squeaky fresh Dover... More

Went here quite some time ago when it was very good, on our last visit we were sitting at a table next to the wooden panelling, I noticed that there were food stains and splattering on the wood, were people had been grappling with seafood I think, really off putting, if I noticed that, why can't the staff??, the place... My husband and I visited Webbe's for our anniversary. The food was very good - I had boullabaisse for a starter and lobster for mains; both were delicious and good value. The restaurant would have benefitted from some outdoor space - we went on a hot day and it was a little claustrophobic - but we didn't look this information... More

I was really looking forward to a good night out and excellent food having read the rave reviews. Instead I felt I was made to feel guilty about not having any wine or dessert. I was almost interrogated by the waitress who was very unfriendly and she flounced off when I said we wouldn't have wine and almost started arguing... More

I returned to Webbe's and found all as before, a very friendly welcome, efficient professional service, and above all fresh well-cooked well-presented food, in generous portions, which ticked all the boxes. In addition to the 'can do' spirit of the service, a rare but valuable detail is the provision of a bottle of chilled water swiftly after seating, very hospitable.... More

After receiving many good reviews on this restaurant, we were uterly disappointed with our visit. Three of our fish dishes were beautiful but my husband ordered the surf and turf and was distraught. As he isnt a complainer at all it was very difficult for him to mention his dissatisfaction. The staff were bland and unhelpful and did very little... More

The food is excellent - great flavours supporting fresh seafood and presented beautifully. The service is friendly enough, although the junior we had bring our meals set them down with an unnerving clatter. The surroundings are definitely 'cafeteria' not 'fine dining restaurant'. Not the right destination for a special occasion perhaps. Just go for great seafood.
