Lovely food and beautiful surroundings.

We ate here on a Saturday lunchtime and enjoyed a delicious 3 course set menu. The smoked haddock starter was particularly good. Good and reasonably priced children's menu with decent choices rather than the usual pub fare of chicken nuggets etc. The pub is set in a beautiful garden with a great... read more

You'll need a satnav but it's worth the drive. Lunch for two on a weekday in a dining room best described as 'eclectic' - you can eat in the dark of an ancient room or in the light of a newish extension (or outside if it's fine). An interesting fixed lunch menu but we spotted the fish soup on the... More

When last Thursday night for a meal for the first time, and it won't be the last, food and service was first class but it's the overall atmosphere that makes it worth a visit, it's just nice to go and have a meal and come away feeling you have eaten well drunk well and not felt like you've been ripped... We eat here a lot and always find a variety of menu options, good quality food and a lovely atmosphere. Rob - is a lovely, attentive host but not over the top. Wines are also good. ps Salt caramel ice cream..... superb

We went for lunch today ( Friday). We did not have to book, the restaurant was quieter than the weekend but as usual a lovely atmosphere and the staff ( Rob and Catherine) were friendly, helpful and attentive. The menu was excellent, it's encouraging to see a pub venturing a little off piste. Everything was delicious although we could have... More

Been to the Jolly sportsman quite a few times, it's a very popular spot. If you weren't a local you probably wouldn't know it was there, it's down a mile of country lane with high hedges and passing places about 3 miles outside Lewes... Food is good, high end and unusual often changed menu. One little grumble though, my friend... More

What is it the Jolly? Had a good meal there several months ago but upon our return they appear to have reverted to the poor menu and lacklustre dishes of the past which kept us away. The high prices did not reflect quality of food or service; we noticed they were advertising for a chef. Also, PLEASE PLEASE GET RID... More

First thing first - you have to book. So keep that in mind when you want to reserve a table. Anyway, it is a good place to eat, small bar area, cosy, however, there is plenty of nicely spaced tables to eat at. We arrived and were warmly greeted by the staff and we had a great cocktail made of... More

We have eaten at this restaurant a couple of times now and each time we have not been disappointed. The service is respectful and knowledgeable and the food was quite delightful. This is one of two restaurants locally that I would positively recommend a visit to. There are gardens, and whilst it is unacceptable for children to play there, it... More

High quality food and drink in a beautiful rural setting. The quality is reflected in the prices however. Make sure that you check out their daily specials.
