Anniversary meal

Very cosy restaurant for anniversary meal. The food was very good, well presented and not over facing (a good thing if you want to enjoy 3 courses without feeling stuffed!). The staff were attentive and friendly. Not the biggest menu, but a good selection of meats and fish dishes.

Well it seems you can't have it all. We visited the JS with friends to celebrate a birthday for lunch Sat 23rd Aug 15. Great location and gardens, the pub had a really nice feeling and the staff were attentive and friendly, the wine and spirit list were extensive and the beers great that's why it gets a 3 but... We went to this pub last Sunday to have a late lunch with some friends. They gave us a lovely table within the conservatory - it was perfect because we could enjoy the sun and the views of the beautiful garden! The food was exquisite, amazing Spanish Rioja and the service was incredible. Very kind and professional staff that treated... More

We went on a Sunday afternoon on the way back to London and sat outside in the lovely garden. We ordered all the nibbles, mains, dessert and coffee and enjoyed every minute. The lobster and cheese plate were particularly good and the gingerbread pudding was amazing. The staff were also all incredibly friendly. I wish we lived in the area!

Superb garden and lovely setting . Beware the wasps in August no doubt attracted by the food and apple trees! Good menu but quality of food questionable and as such for an average of £16 a main course ( starters were varied but expensive), expensive and not good value. In a location that is struggling to keep its pubs open... More

We booked a table for lunch on Sunday for a party of 4 friends. Having visited previously we were looking forward to good food in an old world village pub atmosphere. We were shown to a table next to a curtain which separated our section of the dining area from a then empty conservatory. However, over the next few minutes... More

My husband and I chose to hold our wedding reception here in May 2015 as we have always loved this place and knew we could rely on our guests being served great food in a stunning garden with the Downs as a backdrop. We were not to be disappointed. Right from the start the manager Rob showed his deep personal... More

There have been many times when I have eaten out that I felt a bit mugged off and had feeling of being robbed for what service/food I got. Its not often my wife feels the same but our recent 1st visit to this establishment had us both saying same thing. Great location and I will grab a pint if in... More

Well, I guess it had to happen. 49 positive/ glowing reviews in a row since August last year, then 2 poor ones from 3 in 48 hours! To be honest, we are at a bit of a loss with the above complaint. The time you say elapsed before you ordered seems unlikely at best, more likely embellished for good copy.... More

Apart from the courtesy and charm, this restaurant serves first class food, all to be washed down with real ale, straight from the wood. (The wine, according to her ladyship, was also very good) It has a very nice garden and, it seems like, many waiters and waitresses, who are so polite and on the ball that it makes this... More

Food is lovely, on the expensive side but the quality is reflected in this. The only criticism was the service. Granted, it was a busy day for them as it was such great weather. We had not booked as I was unable to get a signal where we were staying (not the dining establishments fault). We arrived just before it... More
