Once again visited The Jolly, this time for a friend's Birthday. Fantastic food and really friendly genuine and attentive staff. Made a night we were looking forward to really special. Thanks again Andrew and your team.

We haven't been here for about two years after a series of poor meals and bad service. It was a pity as we used to be regulars. However, having been advised to give it another try we did and were impressed - definitely back to the sort of standards that it used to have. Service was charming and efficient. The... More

+ the partridge was one of the best dishes I've had this year. Breast moist, legs crispy, cabbage and bacon roll to accompany was perfect. - prices have moved from high to steep. Wouldn't mind so much but the lovely fresh and free bread is now just lovely. Linen napkins a thing of the past (but individual linen towel napkins... More

Finding this pub in the narrow twisting lanes is part of the experience! Once found, it never disappoints. Sophisticated pub food, excellent service. Their Sunday roasts the best ever, no one can match their rare and tender roast beef! Ask for a table in the old part in winter, though, as it gets very cold in the conservatory extension. Lovely... Had some good times and meals in the Jolly Sportsman, would always recommend booking and asking for a good table so you are not near the toilet. The menu is good and service has always been friendly.

a damp Thursday evening in November......yet the Jolly Sportsman was nearly full...and it's easy to see why. My partner had a delicious goat's cheese Wellington start, with truffle and a girolle duchesse. My haddock and leek tart with a poached egg and hollandaise was yummy, but nothing compared to the succulent calves' liver and bacon with Brussels sprout tops as... More

Really pleased you enjoyed your evening with us. The Winter Warmer offer has been a tremendous success, the pub packed midweek with diners enjoying 2 for 1 meals from our seasonal menu and great wines from our extensive list. The voucher is in November's Viva Lewes magazine and will be valid on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays throughout January. If you... More

Certainly out of the way this place and when you finally arrive don't be put off by the actual building. It does look a bit run down, in fact it doesn't look like a pub at all. Probably the time of year. But the interior is a very pleasant experience. Comfy settees round the log fire, plenty of dining space... More

Oh my I must let you know that this place is worth the trip, as it is well out of the way of most places in Lewes. Honest and greatly prepared food. This is actually an understatement, as it is clear the chef is intuitively gifted to produce outstanding food and clearly cares about his ingredients. We had reserved well... More

I have come here frequently over the past couple of years and never had a less than perfect meal. Add to that friendly staff, a beautiful location, and friendly atmosphere. It's my favourite pub in Sussex.

Thank you for your kind review, and all the other ones below also. It is lovely to receive such good feedback as we draw to the end of what has been a very busy year. Now is though, the time when The Jolly Sportsman really comes into it's own. Wonderful game (grouse, partridge, pheasant) and a roaring log fire a... More

Breast of Wood Pigeon was tender and succulent. The Gourmard was slightly overlooked but we're guessing the chef was under pressure given there was a wedding party in session. My only disappointment was that none of the Belgium beers from their comprehensive list was available, no Chimay, no Duvel so I had an average German wheat beer although others who... More

Glad you enjoyed your visit overall. Apologies for the lack of Belgian beers. We were running them out so that we could replace them with a range of English craft beers which are now available and proving very popular. Look forward to seeing you in the future. More
