On a day trip to Lewes, East Sussex, which, by the way is a very pretty little town in the south downs and well worth a visit in itself, I came across the John Harvey Tavern, which is right next to the Harvey's Brewery. A very old pub indeed, a real step back in time. The food was excellent and... More

Had a great day a Lewes and had lunch at this pub. What a result! The beer was as good as it gets, a few hundred yards from the brewery, doesn't get better. My wife had the beer battered cod and chips ( her words) to die for! I had homemade burger and Stilton, perfect ! Would highly recommend.

I loved this place. We stopped for lunch after touring Lewes Castle. the cask bitter was fantastic and so were the other ales and ciders we tried. The food was great, and so was the service. Can't wait to go back.

Love having my beer poured directly from the cask ! We also ate on the last night we were in Lewes - we were late getting there (thanks to British Rail's signalling failures - reminded us how little we miss living in the South East) but they looked after us very well and we had a very good pub meal.... A little dark inside but clearly popular with the locals. Good quality food and drink for a reasonable price.
