Found this pub too late

With just a couple of hours in Lewes we found the John Harvey Tavern after eating at the Crown Inn and want a shame. This tavern is me idea of what a pub should be, OK the beer is a bit pricey @ just below the £4 mark but I'm down south and not in Yorkshire where you can still... read more

I visit Harveys twice a year for business in the town. The old furnishings and locals in this place are indeed a charm. However my last two visits have been rather ordinary. When you get bangers and mash served to you fresh from the microwave at a tenner a time you ask what the hell us going on. Warm beer... More

I have been coming to this pub for many years, always at lunchtime and usually after a long walk on the Downs. It used to be a real pleasure to have a pint and a sandwich but not on my latest visit. I ordered two 'Old English cheddar sandwiches' at a steep £5.75 each. What arrived was a handful of... More

Across the road from the brewery. Good choice of harveys ales. Nice and traditional environment. Quick service despite being busy.

For several years four of us have met at this pub the Saturday before Christmas for lunch. What a disappointment. We booked our usual table but the wrong one was reserved. We were told we could move upstairs to the table that we wanted and then were ignored. We had to ask for the table to be laid and then... More

Small but welcoming pub serving a good range of Harvey's real ales and wine. Good food served in a friendly manner.

I ate here with a small group of friends one evening earlier this week. We were seated downstairs along with a hugely noisy group of about 25, meaning that our evening was pretty much sabotaged as we couldn't hear one another for much of it. We were surprised not to have been moved and/or warned! Much of the food was... More

This is not where you want to go for food, go to Tesco's and get a microwave low budget dinner. The food is grosse. The lasagne was microwaved with burnt cheese, the jacket potato I couldn't cut through the skin because they were overbaked, the quiche we scraped the egg of as you couldn't cut through the crust. I feel... More

Table for 6 booked. Arrived to find we were sat on a table in main public bar as the restaurant was being used for a function. This wasn't mentioned on booking. We were the only table eating. Rest were just drinking. Now I like a bar and a drink so have no problem with it, unless I happen to be... More

I stop off to have a bite to eat at lunch with a friend. We both had the lamb burger which was on the menu and it was to die for!!! What a gorgeous burger is all I can say!!! The staff were friendly and service was top notch even though there were quite a few lunch time diners. And... More
