Set in a collection of gothic and Tudor revival buildings built by, so apt, a wine merchant, the hotel has the trademark stylish, witty, super comfortable décor that has won the group so many awards. The restaurant is elegant and relaxed and usually full, offering a menu rooted in classic European cuisine with a contemporary edge. The simple classics change seasonally, augmented by head chef Rob Carr’s own creations each day. The extensive, eclectic wine list is central to the hotel, with a great number of choices by the glass. « less

There's a trendy bar (and now also a pub we have yet to try) from where you can take your unfinished drinks into the restaurant. With amazing efficiency you are... more

We live in this lovely city so we weren't staying the night but ate in the bistro. A previous reviewer has mentioned the lack of space between tables and this is true. Another reviewer mentioned the "self-satisfied service staff" and I echo this. The service was surly and unsmiling until I spoke in Italian to the waiter and then that... more

Most of the staff struggled to understand what we asked for, food arrived late and some not at all. Some drinks never arrived and coffee was so cold we sent it back. When we complained we had the service charge... more
