When it comes to food and atmosphere, it's hard to compete in Brighton, there's so much choice for places to eat, but the Basketmakers Arms beats all other pubs and restaurants in the vicinity hands down! The staff are rather unusual because they make you feel at home immediately with their warm smiles and friendly conversation. Customer service is about... More

This small, friendly cheek by jowel pub, decorated with wall-mounted tobacco tins, serves a variety of fish-based dishes. We tried the whitebait and the salmon, both fresh, perfectly cooked and tasty. Chips are home made. The real ale is well kept and there's a good choice of it. The drawback is that the benches and stools are not that comfortable,... More

Plenty of atmosphere and good beer. A 'proper' pub with eight real ales on tap when I visited including Butcombe but I love the Fullers ESB which is not always easy to find. The bar staff were friendly and efficient. There was plenty to look at around the pub but people at the tables made it difficult to look at... More

We had Portobello burgers which were way too small for the price - we were asked if we wanted cheese - we agreed and were then charged £1 extra which was not mentioned. Burgers arrived (tasteless cheese) super small - burgers + 1 home cooked chips & two beers = £27 - come on be fair. Bit of a rip... More

This is a must visit pub with 8 real ales. Fresh locally sourced food. Friendly knowlegeble staff and a wonderful atmosphere away from the banging music and sports tv. Award winning year after year and I'm not surprised give it a go you won't be disappointed!!

Having lived in Italy for many years, and as a result being deprived of decent beer for 51 weeks at a time, the Basketmakers is an essential part of my expat existence on returning to Brighton. It's also the one constant in a city of change: no stupid name change, no banks of flashing fruit machines or TVs, no thumping... More

Serving my favourite beer Harvest Pale from Castle Rock Brewery. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers they were selling. The food looked excellent the sandwich we... More

Visited the Basketmakers today this is now my third visit after discovering this little goldmine about six months ago. Great selection of beers, I had the roast beef sandwich with wholemeal. The beef was served pinkish which I like some may not. The sandwich was also served on a wooden board again that appeals to me but I realise others... More

Looking for lunch and came here as do food all day. I like the pub for a drink anyway but had not eaten here before. Well, I had Sea Bass fillet with ginger strips, crushed potatoes and a tossed salad which contained sun dried tomatoes. Absolutely superb. Only £9.95 as well.
